GDDR3 and yes they are still planning it.
Might be another month though until they have enough volume to release them.

Another HD4770 CrossFire Review

The ATI Radeon 4770 video card can be found today for $94.99 after rebate, which makes it a great value. an ok review, and i think it shows how 8xaa seems to hurt these cards. and im not too happy with alot of the games were done at such a low framerate that most would be considered unplayable.

Yup, it's soon arriving in Sweden as well. Hard to tell if it has heat pipes though. And by looking at the pictures it seems like it's the lite PWM version, same caps missing as in the "skimpy" ones.

I got the PowerColor 4770 card. I really was amazed by the low noise and high output of this low cost card (90e).
But i was really disappointed by the idle power consumption. Without the VGA my IDLEs go to 64-66 W. with the card go to 115W!
This is a 50W difference. I wasn't expecting the idle to be so high after reading xbit labs review. of course other reviews have these values as mine.
I hope this can go lower via drivers (upto now ATI hasn't released any driver for this card, only the manufacturers did).
Just for history, high power values (Furmark running) are (110W without VGA, 200W with VGA).

Really? Where are the heatpipes? They're visible on the review cards, but not on this one, so it simply can't be the same cooler.

Two HD 4770 is CF what I like. If I upgrade from HD 3870 a single HD 4770 is still faster. Reason why I don't mind CF support in most games. Also has stuff I like about CF HD4770 is doesn't take as much power, and it's faster.

If some games don't support it's probably old and it's already faster on older hardware.

Suspect Crossfire will rival 4890 except when frame buffer limitation comes into play especially when overclocked.

Had to manually select 4750 driver for the card to get it to run, hopefully Catalyst 9.5 will fix that.

The card is pretty much silent even when running furmark.

We're currently listing them at the same price as 9600GT 1GB so a definite win at that price point.

If you look closer you can see that the fan and shroud are bigger, so the pipes might be hidden under there. The fan is bigger for sure, and that is a plus. Too bad the PCB is lacking PWM parts.

From what I've seen there are quite a few handpicked cards out there, let's hope XFX has opted for some cherry picked cards to convince consumers they are in the ATI corner for serious business.

You're right, but it's still not the same cooler. It could be better or worse, or pretty much the same. I hope we'll see a review soon. Inet have them in Sweden, wanna buy one Clint?

the question was about the cost/benefit of spending a huge amount of money on cooling an inexpensive card. in all i think my WC setup has saved me money when i compare how much its worth in total, and how many different setups i can use it for. the only thing ive upgraded were the water blocks ever few generations. been using the same pump and radiators for 6 years now i think.

but the point was, why spend 125$ per 4770 + 50-125$ per waterblock(350-500$ total), when you could instead get a 4890 with 1 waterblock (at 250$ + 50-150$ for the block = 300-400$ total), depending on if you go with FC or just GPU cooling. in the end it looks like 50-100$ more.

i think the market to water cool the 4770 is too small to make a FC, and i dont know if the mounting holes match any other cards, so i dont know if you can just drop in any current GPU coolers (i completely forget what the term is for a waterblock that covers just the GPU, lol) the only counter arguement i have for myself is if they make a 4770x2, and its really popular, then i could see a decent enough market for a FC block for that card.
