nice! looking at those temps i knew you couldn't be on air.

this is what air gets you (prime95 was halted but look at maximum temps in real temp @ stock volts)

Dorki: That is not so bad temps on air, what kind of air-cooling do you use?

I use sunbeam CCF. Really? i usually get 40-44c idle/normal usage but on load a whooping 70-75C. I didn't even get a chance to bump up the voltage yet!

What could be the factor for that? I have two PA120.3 and an Fusion v2 (for which I'm still missing the 1366 mounting kit) waiting for the job, but I'm not so sure anymore that that is enough. Since the IHS on i7 are soldered I though that might ensure good heat transfer between core and IHS, so maybe the people reporting those bad temp just have really bad IHS? Or might it be a matter of mounting pressure? So if I lap that W3520, put Coollaboratory on as TIM and somehow manage to get higher mounting pressure, would I still be in for bad load temps? (btw, would it be better to get the D-Tek mounting kit or is something else more pratical to raise the pressure, if that's even needed)

Edit: Any thoughts on this batch btw: 3848A365 ?
reason why these chips run so hot? I dont know. But there is never enough radiator for an i7 as it was said earlier by someone. I have a HW Labs GTX 480, with a MCP 655, and Apogee GTz, and this things beats up my rad when I go over 4.1-4.2ghz. Really, i7 has made users step up as far as watercooling. You, with dual rads, you might be fine, but still you'll notice that at one point or another that it still kicks the rads ass.

Dont know yet:P Its stabil on 1,2v on 4ghz, and i run 20 min on 1,23 on 4,2. So i will try some more tomorrow and will of course post it here
And i used 1.27 on vtt on 4,2.
And that AC-waterblock isnt good to take the heat, so i will get a new top and 1366-mounting to my Gtx block in the end of the month...i think the temps wil get better then.
    What vtt did you use?

very nice! i should be able to do 4.2 @ 1.2v too, or at l at least i hope. i'm stable at 1.152v @ 180bclk x21. 185 bclk would not boot so time to boost the volts!

Been discussing my hot i950 issue with Unclewebb for couple days...and we thought testing TDP/watts on my i940 C0 vs i950 D0 would help sort the difference in heat between 2 chips. At stock, max TDP per intel is 130 watts, though cpu to cpu will vary quite a bit, and batch to batch will vary, hence why intel calibrates part to part.

i940 at 4.3 ghz, 1.49 vcore, pulls 224W per everest, 590W per kill-o-watt meter for computer, load temps were 87C.

i950 at 4.3 ghz, 1.49 vcore pulls 278W per everest, 650W computer, load temps 98C within few seconds, would no doubt go higher....(only need 1.3 vcore for 4.3ghz on this D0 but used 1.49 for apples to apples comparison)

Temps measured by realtemp, TDP per everest and k/w meter in manner seen here
    http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...52&postcount=5

When trying to cool 278W from small point source like cpu, the gradient from water (30C) to core (98C) is 68C. So even if kept water temp at 30C with massive rad (5C over ambient for me), cpu is still going to be 98C under those circumstances...unless you improve waterblock or thermal transfer from WB to IHS.

May need to solder my waterblock to IHS for 80W/M*K instead of 2-4 W/M*K of paste.

At one point, I thought maybe my i950 had bad solder attachment of IHS, but comparing TDP to TDP, temps are similar, this chip is simply pulling more watts given the exact same settings, and hence putting out more heat.

Running this thing at 4500 to 4600 you can easily get into 300+W load if vcore is high enough, so definitely using biggest rad, best WB, best fans possible within ur noise limits, to fight for every degree helps.

nice, thanks a lot for this info man. So crazy how to CPU's at the same settings can pull soo much more power heh? I7's need all the cooling you can get, they are monsters!

Hey Mario, if you want to keep it moderate, get six of these. 3 on each side for push and pull.

If you want more you can always jump over to some Deltas, but umm those things can make you go deaf

Thanks Chicken Patty and rge for clearing that up. So in the end if someone wanted the best temps on water, one would need to chill it seems. Lol, well I'll try with what I have and report later on.

i'm curious to see how my custom watercooling will handle my I7 C0. I have a Mora Waterblock lying outside on the roof and i use a 5l bottle of destilled water as resevoir (also on the roof). And the Pump and the Rest is behind the wall where my PC is rested in another room, so yeah i really have a silent CPU i hear nuttin. I will use my Enzotech CPU Cooler on the I7.

Right now with my current 775 setup my water temp stays very cool. Right now I'm at 17,8 (meassured with aquastream XT). And if i put load on my CPU the water temp rises only about 5 degrees. At 4GHz the Q9550 reaches max temps of 42 with prime running. If i add my GTX 280 to it the water temp can rise about another 5 degrees but normaly its maxed out at 31 water temp.

Hope the I7 will put my water circle to the test.

it sure will. You are in for a surprise. Hope your setup can take it. alot of people have had to upgrade their water setups for the i7. I did.
