Small update ...



Preparing for sleeving the 24-pin cable - first, measured and cut my heatshrink. Then checked them and recut or rejected as need be:





The unleashed beauty of the DA 750 24-pin cable ... lots of criss crossing of wires. Will be cutting the wires down to size, recrimping and sleeving:




An overview of the work area and the almost finished product. Now to figure out what to plug in where for the connector that goes to the PSU. I've left the wires bare on that end for the moment, just to make sure I can see which color wire is which. Then, I'll heat shrink them one at a time as I put them in the connector.





Some of my casulties. And yes, a drop of blood - managed to stick myself with the end of the pin while measuring the wire lengths. Maybe I'm too delicate for this hobby.

Hah, that's so funny to see you put the cut heatshrink up against the box to double check for length, it's exactly how I ended up doing it.

From what I can see in the picture, looks like the shrink ended up looking perfect.

Thanks guys. I'd say the heat shrink came out "good," not quite perfect.

@pingpong ... the benefit to shortening the cables is to have less cable clutter in a small case. Crimping new ends on is one option ... soldering two pieces together is another.

I may have shortened a tad too much, given the way this modular PSU is set up. It will work, but perhaps not quite the look I was going for. Not to worry - this stuff gets easier the more times you do it, so if a redo is required - I'll just grin and it. And, I will be testing it before hooking it up to my new motherboard.

undo pins on each side make new cable with new pins on each side. Can't get easier. I would just say F the old cable and make a brand new one with all new parts. undoing each moles is a complete waste of time if you can buy the connnectors you want to use (if you can't then you have no choice). Performance PCs has all the PSU modding stuff you need although I recommend buying sleeving in bulk from either Parts Expess or cableorganzier.com as it is cost effective

what if the psu isnt completely modular like the corsair hx1000w psu ?

and i only need 4(maybe 6) pci 6 pins not 6+2

I am familiar with that one as I just gave my last one away (used three of them in my Daywalker project). For the non-molular cables you splice near the psu, make the cable longer, sleeve it, put on new end. The only thing easier is saving money on your automobile insurance by shopping at Geiko

when re-doing it, can we just match the color sequence as original and try to eliminate the "twists"....

was actually thinking about replacing it with ribbon cables...

You can make them staight. I have an awesome type of flat cable but it is 22awg. If you find 18 let me know.

How do you make them straight (without using a ribbon cable)? I thought I could, but for the life of me I cannot figure out how to get the right pins in the right holes of the connectors without crossing them.

Another option I had was just to get a 12 inch extender cable, then switch the female pins/connector on one end for male pins. BUT, PPCs was out of the male pins, and I always like to do things the difficult way the first time a round
