Starting to hit probably thermal limits of my i7 920 3836A756 on H20 cooling as 32M Pi seems to be topping out around 4680mhz with HT disabled. Only managed to shave ~1 second off my best 32M pi time with i7 920.

Does your experience using a Feser Quad with the DFI UT X58 tell you that it's needed or did you just get a good deal? Ever since I noticed that you went with a quad I've been looking but over here all I see is 'Out of Stock'.

Well feser 480 was selling at feser 360 prices here locally as retailer was doing a special to make up for the fact he didn't have feser 360 stock - so choice was obvious

4//28 looking sweet indeed 8x 32M Super Pi instance via HyperPi @DDR3-2080Mhz 7-8-7-20 1T at 1.725v bios set vdimm = 1.730v real DMM vdimm.

    New SG Skin used http://i4memory.com/f80/dfi-ut-x58-t...n-skins-17321/

Both cstkl1 and my DFI contact suggested with 4/28 bios, I check out setting BOOT Up CPU Base Clock to around 180-185bclk for better perrformance and stability. Seems to work as first test has me reducing my required CPU VTT volts from 1.43v to 1.37v for 8x 32M Pi test!!!!

Thanks Eva. With no conventional hard drives the system feels so much smoother. Had a bit of time last night and it looks lke 230 BCLK might have a chance at 24/7 stability. It's passing 20 runs of LinX. Haven't tried other benches yet.

Will post pic and more results later on higher vdimm..

    For DFI x58's

I find memtest hci and memtest86+ is fake on vdimm
hyperpi is somewhat fake cause all u need is to have stable vtt voltages
it will accept lower vdimm a lot by around 0..05v
prime95 set large fft then custom change run fft to 5.4gb is the best for vdimm
linx is best for vcore and ioh/ich voltages.

    Test rig
    I7 920
    DFI UT X58 the8
    Kingston Hyperx T1 3x2gb 2000mhz CL8
    GTx285 sli.

1.65v set DMM Read 1.648 load

    2100mhz 8-8-8-24 1n

had to abort linx but i did find the exact vcore from another method.
will use hr05 later and some fans on the nb. havent placed them yet on this 2nd mobo

I have a problem getting the 21 multi to work in win7 7100 x64. I have eist and turbo enabled in the bios (4/28) but only seem to get 12 multi (as shown in cpuz and confirmed by results from various benches) within windows. Power plan is set to high performance (min and max are set to 100%). I have no problem using 21 multi in both xp and 2k8.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

A few of us are discussing same experience with win7 at http://i4memory.com/f80/windows-7-df...8-t3eh8-17336/, some findings are VID Special Add set to AUTO fixes it (although i didn't have problems with it set to disabled) and also that cpuz is incorrectly reporting lower multipliers when turbo 21x multi is enabled - as my benchmarks are all showing results reflective of 21x being in place even if cpuz fluctuates for me between 5x, 8x, 12x, 15x, 17x, 18x, 20x and 21x in windows 7

Proof that cpuz reported cpu multiplier fluctuations in Windows 7 is cpuz related as both realtemp 3.20RC4 and coretemp 0.99.5 reported right 21x multi all the time

    Fluctuating

I suspect it's just cpuz misreporting - try with VID Special Add left at AUTO instead of disabled... no problems for me in terms of end result performance

Beta BIOS of 0805 is out anybody tried?

BTW my PWM area temp is getting ultra high...72C @ idle...maybe RMA time?...

The i7 Turbo tool might help you guys understand any problems you're having with your reported multiplier.

    http://www.fileden.com/files/2008/3/3/1794507/Turbo.zip

With Core i7 there are two ways to read the multiplier. You can read it directly from a model specific register (MSR) within the processor or the Intel Turbo White Paper recommends that you compare two high performance timers within the CPU every second and calculate the average multiplier.

The i7 Turbo tool uses both of these methods so you can compare. Calculating the multiplier at full load is the most accurate way to read the multiplier but most software doesn't do this because it is a lot easier to just read one value from an MSR. Using Intel's method to calculate the multiplier when the CPU is idle is not 100% accurate but it's pretty close. It may result in the odd random value but 99.9% of the time it seems to be accurate at idle as well. Constant fluctuation at idle in the calculated multiplier is usually a sign that your Minimum processor power state in your Power Options is not in agreement with your EIST/C1E bios settings.

When running high stress programs like LinX, this tool is the best way to check that Turbo mode is staying fully engaged. As soon as the multi starts to drop at full load, that is a sign that Turbo mode is starting to cycle rapidly on and off.

Same here with Win7 RC. Performance, temps and current draw indicate the multiplier is indeed 21x.
