So you know, to get rid of that message you may need to uninstall DES (Dynamic Energy Saver) and then reboot. Then install the latest Version if you plan to use it again later >>

I do not advise @BIOS unless you have no other options, but you do have other options as linked above. Qflash can be used in MANY ways, and you could also always flash from DOS using FlashSPI that comes with the BIOS download packages

F6e BIOS issue?? Could not Qflash back to previous Bios after F6e

I just tried the F6e Bios off of tweak town and once I saw that my overclock was no longer stable I tried to flash back to F5e and QFlash would hang every time I tried it. I tried F4, F5, F6a and F5e and nothing would work except a reflash to F6e. Anyone else have this issue? Is this a known problem or update to Q-flash?

I ended up making a Bootable USB Flash Drive using the instructions on tweaktown (thanks lsdmeasap) to undo the issue and get back to the old bios.

All BIOS after 3/11 should not have that Qflash issue. Are you sure you loaded and applied optimized defaults after you flashed to F6e then saved and rebooted to make your changes?

Yes, that was a known issue with Pre 3/11 Beta's but should be corrected in all from 3/11 onwards. Glad to see my guide saved you, anyone else who has this issue keep in mind you can use @ BIOS my suggestion would be Flashing From DOS via FlashSPI. Bootable USB Flash would work as well as mentioned above

And do keep in mind, all BIOS versions will differ as far as settings go, mean some will need more of something others maybe less. So you should not base your opinion on how good a BIOS is just because exact past BIOS settings will not be stable for you. And please do not use Old BIOS profiles in newer BIOS's either

Can anyone else provide feedback about F6e and Qflash? Can you flash back to any older BIOS's or not? Thanks

Yep I loaded F6e with Q-Flash and went straight to the BIOS after reboot and loaded optimized defaults, saved, rebooted and started overclocking from there. Thanks for the heads up about the variability of BIOS settings as I did not know that, but I have never used profiles as I do it the hard way and just go change every setting manually.

So it sounds like I could have used @ BIOS to fix this issue? I thought about that but due to your warnings on tweaktown I have never used that application. Also is there a way to force the MB to use the backup Bios that is stored in the second Bios chip or will it only do that if the primary is corrupted?

I have never updated my secondary BIOS with Alt +F12 so I was trying to find a way to force the MB to read from that one as it should be F3 which came with the MB.

Interesting that you say it was a problem with pre 3/11 beta's as I have been running beta's off of tweaktown since a few days after I got the UD5 and I have been flashing the BIOS regularly forward and backwards with no issues. I noticed the drops in temps with the F5 Series and I played with the 21X200 Bclk seetings with F6a but have always come back to F5e for my best LinX stable setting at 4.095. I need to get on one night and get some help from the experts to break 4.2 one of these nights.

ya, do keep that in mind. All BIOS's will differ for sure, some more then others. Of course some may feel like all works just the same as another, but not often.

Yes, you could have used @BIOS, but I do not suggest Windows based flashing when there is many other methods available.

Ya, you can short out the Main BIOS chip, if you wanted to do so. >>>
    http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...&postcount=520

But other then that or corruption you can't choose to boot from the backup. You may or may not have F3 in there, the BIOS will backup itself without you using ALT+F12, I am not sure when or what invokes this or how often it happens but it will be done for sure without you manually doing it. So you could have any in between F3 and what you are using now in your secondary chip.

The Qflash issue, that you came upon today, has not always been around but just in the last few sets of Beta's here the past week or three. The issue is just as you described it, once flashed with a Problematic BIOS the user could no longer use Qflash to flash to a previous BIOS and had to use DOS based flash or otherwise to go back to a older BIOS.

It has not been a constant thing either, I had been advised to pass along warnings that the Qflash issues may or may not be resolved. That is until a few days ago I was informed that they believed all BIOS after 3/11 should be good to go.

So hopefully your issue was just a quirk maybe? Care to run a check to see if it happens again still with F6e? No worries if you don't want to, I understand fully. If you do please post your results.

Anyone else please advise as well if you have Qflash issues after using a Beta dated after 3/11 so that I may pass it along

Hey guys, a bit info so that you all would know.
Tonytiger here had a problem getting over 170bclck and I had the exact same problem... whatever I tried, million bioses and what so ever, nothing helped. Yesterday I changed the CPU to another 920 with the same FPO! And whoila, boots straight away on 180 and even on 200!!!
The other thing I noticed was that the CPU that didnt do over 170 had default volts of 1.3250, the new on the other hand has default volts 1.2850!!

I am not eager to try to repeat the issue with F6e as it cost me the entire evening trying to figure out what the issue was and then how to resolve it. I will think about it the next time I try for a higher overclock and be glad to post my results if it comes up again. Thanks for the help and the answers, I tried to find the answers with various searches last night but came up empty so I really appreciate the answers.

Just got my system fired up, my backup disk that I had used for all of my media is listed as dynamic so Vista Home doesn't recognize it.. currently fixing that issue and then off to see if I can make 3.4GHz on the stock cooler before the rest of my water cooling supplies come in!

    Hi,
I'm gonna phase change my core i7 and I was wondering if the Gigabyte x58 Extreme has any overheating shutdown option, I've seen that it beeps if the processor reaches a certain temp, but I don't know if it shuts down.

Could someone please tell me if it does?

    Thx!

I just flashed my UD5 to F6e and yes I have the same problem (I've also loaded optimized defaults, saved, rebooted).

Will try bootable USB later on.

Mind you, I can't seem to get over a bclk of 180 stable.

I can do 180 fine at:

    20x Multi
    Vcore 1.3000
    QPP/VTT 1.3000
    Turbo/HT/All Power Saving Functions OFF
    VDIMM 1.64
    PLL 1.80
    Memory Multi 8x, Uncore 16x

I've tried upping all volts and still cant get 190 stable!

Mind you, I've only used F5 and F6e BIOS revs.

Any ideas? Back down CPU Multi? Increase Uncore Multi? Change to another BIOS rev. (if so can you recommend a few)?

EDIT: A few things I forgot to mention.

Just tried a bootable USB, got F5 BIOS working again.

I cant get 3.8 or 4.0 stable at all, a few minutes of priming and BSOD. I've tried these settings:

    19x Multi & 200 Bclk, 20x Multi * 190 Bclk
    Vcore 1.4000
    QPP/VTT 1.3600
    VDIMM 1.66
    PLL 1.88
    Uncore Multi 18x

    Memory is a G.SKill PI kit rated at 8-8-8-21 @ 1.6-1.65V

    Any suggestions?

EDIT 2: Few more details which might be of use.

    Load Line Calibration Enabled

185 Blck * 20x Multi seems to be stable so far (45min of Prime95)

No the mobo will not shut down the computer if i7 overheats. But the i7 will shut itself down at around 120C, or about 20C over tjmax, if throttling fails to maintain it at 100C from catastrophic cooling failure.

I use realtemp and set my cpu temp at 90C and gpu at 80c, so in case of a pump failure/water cooling failure, realtemp will shutdown the computer. I have tested it many times, works great. You can get latest version in this post:
    http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...postcount=3443
go to settings, alarm, set to bat file... RTshutdown.bat, then enter any temp for cpu you want. Also if you have nvidia gpu you can enter gpu shutdown temps as well. And just place realtemp in start up folder or use task manager to have it start if using vista or win 7.

No shutdown temps in a >300$ motherboard?!!
I should have picked an asus motherboard, they always come with this option...

My guess is that there is no speed fan control either?!

On a positive note I am up to 195 Bclk now, damn thing wouldn't even POST with raid turned on till I throttled back down to 165. That was a little discouraging to say the least.

    lol!
Software temp control is always worse than bios temp control, besides you need to have the os loaded to do that and I don't always run windows u know.
It just surprises me that this bios is lacking of such BASIC options, I understand that everyone in this forum has the same "toy" but lets not lose perspective here, regarding bios options, we are not getting enought for what we payed, I still like this board though, generaly speaking.
