But you better bet that will cost quite a pretty penny.

    Why don't I have money!

Edit: Looking at those numbers makes me think my computers could use help. I have 4 computers crunching and i'm getting 12-15k ppd... total. I mean I understand 3 of them are 6 years old, but one is a decently new quad core.

    Running at 4171mhz on WCG
Nice; I wish mine looked like that. I dont even get that with my I920. need to get that thing clocked up a bit (once I get off my lazy butt to do it).

What projects do you run? I run aids, cancer, and drugs. on vista ultimate 64.
I guess the important thing is I am helping out and slowly moving up the ladder!

YES.... Once I get my cashflow working again(lost job recently) I'm look into getting a regular i7 920 or 940 and clocking the hell out of it, OR getting a Xeon EP based system, 2 E5520's with a SM X8DAi Motherboard.

If someone can figure out how to overclock on a dual 1366 socket motherboard, screw the OC'ed i7, I'll go get a Xeon DP(errr EP) and whatever motherboard that does it gets my money!

My budget is only so large(about $1200-$1500 for CPU, MB and RAM ONLY) and I'd still want to use this as my main/gaming rig(in addition to crunching). I already own everything else, a 4870X2, 1.2KW PSU, etc leftover from my main rig that I parted out and sold. While I'm currently leaning towards i7, if some one figures out how to OC the Xeon EP's I'll spend a little extra!

Core 2 Duo(Conroe) was based on the Intel Core Duo(Yonah) which was based on the Pentium M(Banias) which was based on the Pentium III(Coppermine).

Core 2 Duo is a Pentium III on meth.

My suggestion to you is put all this on standby until you've found a new job, got at least a few months of it under your belt and some security and then think about a new system and thats only if your single.
If married tuck away at least 6 months living and bill money before thinking on new machinery.
This stuff is fun but you got to keep it in a proper perspective my friend.

I've actually been jobless since the end of November. While moneys tight, financially, I've got enough savings to take me through all the way to August/July, assuming my bills/rent don't go up(they shouldn't). That's not including the money I've made off the sale of(most, not all, like I said I kept certain parts) my previous system(truthfully a part of this has gone to food, as I'm trying to leave the saving untouched except for bills), and I've got a recently repaired(just got it back today actually) MacBook Pro I'm thinking of selling to fund this system.

Normally I'd agree with you, and put this planned build on hold, but I've been without a main rig since January/February, and being stuck on a system that can't game/crunch has been annoying the hell out of me. I went from having 3 dedicated fairly high end Folding/Crunching systems, to none. I'm currently stuck on a defective Pentium 4 POS system.

I'm ancy for a new system, and if I have to sell the MacBook, I will. Don't get me wrong, I realize that its not the best idea to be looking at spending on a new rig at this point and time, but the money that would be spent on this system would only add a month worth of $$ onto my savings. Besides, if things aren't looking up by July, along with said rig, I still have plenty of other asset's I'll sell off.

To be perfectly honest? If I don't find a job by August, I'll be ed regardless of if I spend the money on a new rig or not. I might as well have some fun till then.

Oh and I'm single, if I had a S/O, do you think they'd let me spend this money? Regardless of if I had a job or not.

    Priorities my friend..
A POS P4 will get you through just fine..
    Just tell yourself it's 2002 not 2009..
Hold your money till you have work.
With what I see these asses in Congress doing and in the Executive doing I don't see a pretty picture and the job market will get worse..
Grab something, anything to help extend the money you have even if it only adds a $100.00/week to you..

We'll see. That said, 2002 or not, that doesn't stop my curiosity in 2009. I'm still interested to see if you can get anything out of that SM board or not.

has anyone noticed their points being higher than normal this week? My points have been quite a bit higher this week on my systems. Today has been the best day. I got 24k+ on my I7 @ 3.3ghz, 22k+ on my 9550 (which usually only gets avg 15k/day). Today I damn near hit 50k and I am usually only around 30-35k/day. no changes have been made to the I7 rig but i switched my 9550 over to cancer, child cancer, drugs only. Just wondering if anyone has seen unatural gains in their points.

That's assuming everything behaves. I've had some waiting for validation before, though not for long and there were three inconclusives in the list.

If that what loafing around means-then what would it be being if it was working really hard.

Once he figures out a way to overclock it.

    Till then, its just loafing.

    60K.. or more..
If they made a board with voltage adjustments to the cpu and memory and a chip like the X3570's with dual QPI
you'd see 4000mhz EASY on these..
    maybe a lot more.
I need to get someone at Intel to listen to us and work a "good" bios..

Or get SetFSB working, from what
I have been reading, even though the clockgen chip that the X8DAi/3 is supported, support for the chipset must also be added before it will work. I'd say get in contact with the SetFSB guy again, see if he can't add support for your board, who knows maybe its just some strange/odd thing that needs to be fixed to work on the X8DAi/3.

Are is anyone else other we know than the SetFSB program/Guy who can perhaps take a look into software changing the base clock and/or bios?

I've had mine on 100% for some time now, and it seems to be doing fine at 191X21 @ 1.35 vcore. The temps seem a little high for my taste, but everyone suggests 70ish is normal for the i7 on load. Are you i7 guys leaving the CPU usage at 100%?

Here is a screenshot of what it is doing:

It seems to be able to get 30k+ if I'm away from the computer just letting it crunch. The power even cut off at my house one day and it got 20k while being off for 8 hours.

I've had a I7 940 running 100% 24/7 from Dec until end of april with temps in the high 70's to low 80's without any problems, since it was a horrible clocking chip I've sold it though and got a 920 D0 which has been running for ~1 week now at 4200 with 100% load, temps are lower, but still in the 70's.

how much power does yours consume?

I have an inline watt-meter on mine right now.

    At idle - 212 W
    while crunching@100% - 360W

Hardware is fun, but only when you're financially stable.

Also, dang nabit, stop using Lotr references in thread titles It sets off a disturbance in the force
