How exactly did you manage to kill your CPU with changing cooling paste? Did you apply too much or too little paste? Or did you not tighten it properly or overly too tight? What CPU cooler do you have? I would understand if you are using the stock cooler as sometimes it's hard to have the four prongs seated proper. Still, the CPU's thermal protection sensor should kick in if it ever gets way too hot.
