for the 790i chipset a high NB is required in most cases for high speed or tight timings or high densities & if you want them all at the same time you need very high vNB.
But there are "golden samples" out there that require much less voltage to do the same, just like CPU's. I had the "oportunity" to own up to 4 x Striker 2 Extreme & they all required different voltages to run the same mem speeds, my last board was my best. That's also one of the reason's why there was a Striker II NSE version with lower mem speed, those boards got the "bad" chips that couldn't do 2000Mhz at reasonable voltage.
The 8Gb Patriot Viper kit I owned couldn't do CAS 7 even at 1800 totally impossible, the Samsung HCF0 in general are rated for high speeds with loose timings.
The 4x 1Gb Crucial could do CAS 7 at 1800 & at 1890, but the best was the 8Gb Diablo, it went to CAS 7 at 1850 with 8Gb but required very high vNB.
