TDP wont show in any of Gigabyte bioses, F3 has TDP limits, all bioses from F4betas and more recent has no TDP limit, ie turbo = permanent multi. So Gigabyte you simply have the TDP limits circumvented for you (and if you want TDP limits you have to use F3 bios).

Asus is just now coming out with their fix for allowing turbo to be enabled regardless of TDP, etc limits, and they have visible setting.

As to why you can not see watts/amps from cpu in everest, you have a different sensor. It is the DES component to the sensor that reads TDP/current. I have extreme board...do you have a different GB board?

Ok. I've got the UD5. So is there another setting I should try tweaking to get the memory widows stable above 1146? What are the limits on the QPI multiplier? It's < 22, right?

go to computer>>sensor so it shows watts. And use cpuz/real temp to show multi/mhz.

then overclock computer to 4 to 4.2 and run linx, just get TDP to 150W or so and see if still enabled, ie multi is still 21 for i920 or back to 20 or still 23 i940 or back to 22...like pic here, TDP is 263W (way over 110-120W where turbo kicks out on F3 bios on GB board which has TDP limits enabled, and temps 100C, current way over rated max)...http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...95#post3574895

EDIT, just saw you have i965...irrelevant for you, if you want higher multi you dont need turbo.
i see tnx for your explaning !

Had to look at a few of your other posts...guessing what you are asking but...I am assuming your RAM is rated 1600, but you are using 6x mem (6x191=1146) and ? 12x uncore.

qpi should be 36 on GB board. Uncore has to be 16 or 17 to run mem at 8x (uncore has to be 2x mem). I would try entering in manually stock timings, 8,8,8 24 whatever. From their I would expect the mem to run fine at 1.65 DRAM, though I would try increasing qpi/vtt volts a notch if not stable at increased mem/uc multi, then maybe DRAM v a notch if that does not help. Also running uncore higher ? temps higher, maybe need one more notch vcore...hard to say, once change settings, it is more trial and error.

1.49 vcore for 4.2Ghz i7 940 isnt it a bit high? i dont have alot experience thought i7 940 needed less voltage than i7 920

i have an i7 920 for a couple hours now still with official F4 bios gigabyte x58 extreme

I have all the values in auto in bios. Running 1333 dram the qpi becomes 3.2ghz and the uncore 2.66ghz.

Can you help me with what might be causing the problem?? do i need to up some voltages to work? Changing the qpi clock is it considered a overclock in i7? ...

    THANKS!
wish i could help you "ima newbie", i have no clue how p6t bios looks like but i think your problem might be leaving some values on auto, try setting uncore x20 or x21 and system memory multiplier to x10 default voltage should be fine since you are not overclocking. wish you luck

I am quite a very old overclocker ... however just upgraded from a q9450 and i am not very comfortable with nehalem.

I tested the setup with 133bclk 24x QPI , 20x Uncore and 10x mem multi.
All values at auto sets vcore at 1.288 (cpu-z) and v QPI at default 1.2

Should i try with QPI multi 18x ?? i read in this thread that a ratio of 9:8 QPI vs UnCore should be kept for stability ...

    Thanks for the help!

the 9-8 ratio is a rule of thumb - YMMV
set uncore multi to be twice memory multi (plus 1 tick up if you can)
qpi - when I oc for max cpu speed I set qpi to x36 - the lowest the ggbt boards allow.

Yip. Precisely the guidelines I followed from the Giga 4GHZ guide. These things are cake to overclock compared to C2Q.

But i don't want to overclock the final cpu frequency. Having 3.2 ghz QPI clock needs more QPI voltage on a 920 than default?

920 OCs are pretty impressive (coming from a Q6600). I have my 920 (Batch 3841A) and my MoBo (eVGA x58) should arrive tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing what this chip can do

a little advice my friend, make sure you get the latest BIOS for that board, I love my EVGA board honestly i've never had a glitch or a problem with it, and the board in my opinion performs great. The latest BIOS is just more stable and has better memory capabilities.

    Hello,

    I have the following "problem"

    19 x 200

    Vcore 1,35V

    HT & Turbo off
    LLC on

everthing else on AUTO works perferct.

    211 x 19 will not boot

200 x 20 will boot but prime freezes instantly.

I had Vcore as high as 1,5V and QPI/VTT at 1,42V

    everything else untouched.

Can my 920 do not more than 3800MHz or am I doing something wrong?

I've got a shot at 3841A321 which I haven't seen anywhere (Google gives no love)

Overall I see mostly positive results with 3841A, though there have been a couple who haven't got good results.

    What's the consensus?

My first 920 hit a wall at 3.8ghz as well, odds are you may have gotten a bum OC'r as well. My 2nd 920 does 4ghz with HT on at a lower vcore than my first one could at 3.8ghz.

    EDIT:
    1st 920 3837A769 packed 10/28/08 - not a good OC'r, max without HT 4ghz at 1.5vcore with HT 3.8ghz at 1.4xx
2nd 920 3841A380 packed 11/25/08 - very happy with this chip, currently at 4ghz with HT at 1.3875 & has primed over 48hrs

I got a 3841a640 last week and so far it is running 24/7 at 4095; it is also only in the low 60s under full load so I should be able to get a little more out of it-good luck steve

    Thanks for the response.

I'll probably give the chip a shot if they've still got the 3841A in stock when I get there on Friday. It can't be worse than mine, at least

24/7 settings 100% 8 threads being like this for 225 hours.

All the setting are close to perfection. Look at Sandra's memory bandwidth.

Do not let the DRAM frequency fool you, this is like a DD3 2000 MHz CL9.

Shooting for 4Ghz with P6T deluxe but happy if 3.8Ghz works with decent voltage.
