Well FSB 430 was the max. stable FSB for my C0 E5420's as well, so it's not surprising you can't go higher..
What happens above FSB 428? The system does not boot, or the system becomes unstable? If it doesn't boot (because you tried to set 1,4V MCH) then like I said try 1,35V MCH and maybe 1,86V Vdimm.. if it's unstable try the same voltage settings and use enough Vcore. If prime blend still fails you are at your CPUs FSB limit.

VTT is like the FSB voltage on S775 and 771, adjusting it helps with high FSBs on desktop mainboards. Unfortunately you cant change the VTT on the Z7S unless you use QX9775 CPUs, so if your CPUs hit their FSB max you cant go higher. And like I said, C0 tops out at around 430 with stock VTT.

Oh sure, misread you there. But sspec is the same as long as CPU model and stepping are identical, meaning any C0 E5410 will share sspec with yours - so how hard could it be finding one

That's true in terms of the E5410. However, other changes within the same stepping can lead to differing sSpec numbers. For example, these 5140's are the same stepping and clock speed, but their sSpec numbers differ due to a tweak in the multiplier:

    SL9RW
    SLABN

Perhaps I'm not too savvy when it comes to processor suppliers. It wasn't obvious to me that any online retailers were willing to guarantee the stepping I would receive. I decided to seek out a brick and mortar retailer that had a C0 in stock. Most retailers that I contacted didn't stock Xeon processors.

uh.. the mhz should change if the multiplier changes. I think Intel goofed on there somewhere.

    hey all,
i was wondering if its possible to use the 3rd white pci-e slot for crossfire?
i bought a new sound card thats pci,
and im really bummed to find out that one of my gpu's covers the pci slot so i am now struggling to look for ways around it.
if anyone has idea's then tell away!
but defintily wondering if the white pci-e slot is useable!
    thank you!

You could use CrossFire on that slot, but from my understanding its a slower PCI-E slot.

You won't be getting the full advantage of CrossFire due to the slower bus speed.

Have you considered a USB Sound Card?

I'd go with USB if the included Asus sound card wasn't all I needed, Creative have some very good ones - what does the PCI card have that the Asus card doesn't have?

well id say the asus card may be better, the card i got was a gift, it was the razer baraccuda package, sound card and headphones.
i just dont want to put it to waste, i plan to upgrade soon to an i7 build. should i buy a new card?
or just use 1 4870x2, the games i play atm arn't very graphic demanding, and i havn't gotten into crunching yet

put the barracuda in the i7.

A single 4870X2 is plenty for just about anything out there that you can actually sit down and "play"...

Yeah, really. I'm on my "old" 8800GTS/512 at the moment due to power supply issues and it does most things at 2560x1600 just fine as long as I dont run over 2x FSAA.

hehe, chips were attached to the package in costa rica, but they were most likely manufactured in OR/AZ or maybe even Israel.

Any indication what they did? Is it actually the one you sent in or a replacement? Mine should arrive at Asus any day now.

I'm quite sure it's the same board.
There are some markings on the bios chip , I think it's a new bios chip.

Board is running 426x9 fine here

I hope you'll get quicker service from Asus ... been waiting more than 2 months

    Vugar,

I have had that problem (all bios settings back to default) just once with this board.
Sorry, couldn't figure out why or how this happened.

Is this happening every time you restart ?

Maybe jcool has any idea ...

    Yes, every single time.
Do you have msn or any other messenger.
I wanted to talk about overclocking.
PM me your messenger or something else so I can talk to you right now.

    Best, Vito

That's the same issue I have, manual Vcore + E0 step CPUs = problems. Either set the Vcore back to auto and be satisfied with whatever OC you get on stock Vcore, or set the bios to halt on no errors, make your Vcore adjustment, bootup and never reboot. That's what I do anyway.

Can't remember really. It's called "press F1 key on error" or something. If you disable that, it will boot up once (and only once) using the manual Vcore you selected. At the next reboot, your bios will be reset again so be sure to save all your settings in the OC profile.

What bios are you using, 040x or 050x?
