That's still a pretty crap-tastic record for the board though.

Are those other boards running WCG as well jcool? I think its the VRM's giving out..
edit - Guys, when RMA'ing your boards put "ATTN: Chinh Nguyen" on a piece of paper inside.

All along the watchtower the watchmen watch the eternal return.
Unfortunately AFAIK they don't, but at least one does 10+ hour render jobs regularly. Running OCed X5450's as well, HD4870X2 CF included, so not really light equipment. I don't think it's the CPU VRM or mine would have blown again by now.
... but you're using bios 0501 now ...
Maybe the 0401 bios was bugged and caused the VRM's to die?
Those customers probably have bios 0201 , right?
This is all speculating , no proof at all , just my 'theory'.
No they have 0401.. running E0 CPUs they needed that bios.
So far my 'theory'
It must be something else then .
Help!
Is anyone else running the Sapphire Radeon HD 4850 X2 2GB card? I just messed up my BIOS and need a fresh copy of the BIOS for the master GPU - can anyone help me out? I am desperate to get this fixed tonight!
Thanks
Andrew

Thanks, but that's for the 1GB version of the 4850 X2 - I have the 2GB card and the BIOS is different, I used the 1GB just to get the card to POST but it's not stable enough to run Windows without crashing.
If anyone has the card, they can extract a copy of the BIOS using GPU-z - for now I have had to revert to my 3870.
On a side note, I have installed the 0501 BIOS to my Z7S and I am back to 440MHz FSB/3.3Ghz - does anyone know yet if the manual VCore problems present in 0403 have been resolved?

Try mvktech.org, the best site there is for getting GFX bios files etc

good luck!
Hi Guys,
New to the forum and I want to say thanks to you all for inspiring me to build a Z7S system despite all the negativity it's been recieving.
My system is currently running a single C0 E5410 CPU with 4GB (4x1GB) of Kingston HyperX FB-Dimm with an HD4870 Graphics card.
I have a 4850X2 but I'm rather disappointed that I can't put it on the primary slot due to the mosfet coolers so I've decided not to use it in the meantime.
I've currently modified the cooling to use a Thermalright HR01X for the CPU and the HR05 IFX for the North bridge with a SilenX 80x15mm fan.
I haven't OC'd my system yet, but so far its running rock solid on Vista 64 SP1.
I'm looking for a 2nd E5410 C0 CPU to add into my system to add more processing power.
Thanks to you guys who have successfully got your Z7S setup up and running and good luck to those who don't! >.<
4870X2 works fine in the primary slot, at least mine did...
All along the watchtower the watchmen watch the eternal return.
I once benched it with 2x 3870X2 fit well... also built a watercooled setup with 2x 4870X2, see a few pages back. What's the issue with the 4850X2?
As far as I am aware, the 4850X2 is the BIGGEST graphics card you can buy - about an inch longer than the 4870X2. I also could not get it into the primary slot and gave up trying to force it - part of me thinks I can get it to fit if I bend a few bits, but who in the world wants to do that when the graphics card and motherboard come to nearly £1,000 !! Correct me if I am wrong but the second slot is exactly the same as the first slot, they are both x16, unlike on cheaper boards where one is x16 and the other is x8 or x4. Now I have the primary x16 free in case I ever need to plug something else in. That would probably be nothing or another graphics card as I already have a RAID controller in the white (mechanical) x16. I guess the complication would be if you need to plug in a legacy PCI device?
This has kinda shattered my ambitions to buy another 4850X2 and run 4-way Crossfire, but the 4850X2 is so powerful I don't really see any reason to bother. You can always buy a 1GB 4850 and put it in the first slot and (I believe) run 3-way Crossfire, or buy a 4870X2 and run hybrid 4-way Crossfire.
By the way, have you heard the fans yet?? I stripped mine off and put on a thick slap of water cooling!

Lol, forgive me for saying but I always thought the 4850X2 was a superfluous card. Either you want the full performance of a 4870X2 dual GPU card or you go with a single 4870 1GB, but 4850X2? I dunno..
Also I think it's ridiculous it doesn't fit where the biggest and baddest cards on the market (4870X2, GTX 285, GTX 295) fit w/o problem.
I'd probably sell it lol. Anyway, if you are satisfied with it then just keep it as it is, it runs just as good in the 2nd slot as in the first (both are x16 PCIe 2,0).
And yeah I watercooled my X2 as well.. its stock fan was easily 3x louder than my condenser fan on the phase change unit![]()

Hi guys!
Some days ago arrived from Jcool my new FBDIMM 800 CSX Rams..
I mount the copper heatspreader ...the same of Jcool.
here some shots..
The problem is.. Why I can't go over 428mhz of fsb?
I try to go to 1.40 of northbridge and 1.60 of cpu's and SB...
I don't understand because cpus temp are at 29-32c and a Motherboard temp to 38c and Fbdimm temp to 32-38c.
428mhz with no chipset overvolt... only 1.4v for cpus..and when I go to
429mhz system don't want start.
I have 0501 Bios..
TNX to All![]()
First off, I think it looks awesome
Second of all, 1,40V MCH setting does NOT work. It always results in the system not booting. Try 1,35V MCH setting, gets me to FSB 451 stable. The limiting factor will be how much FSB your CPUs can handle (not how much Mhz, you can push more Vcore to increase clock speed, but you don't have VTT option so it's down to luck how far the CPUs will go on stock VTT).
If you have E0 CPUs 440 Mhz FSB should be doable.
Hi Jcool,
TNX for your answer,
Yeah CPUZ say that I've C0 CPU... I did not know..
Anyway.. I don't understand what is the VTT but I read previous page and it probably implemented to the 0501 bios but only visible if you have a pair of QX97xx cpus.. or not?
You think that will be possible adjust this VTT and go over 428 fsb for the future?
