I am getting the same thing with my EP45 UD3R + Q9400. In fact it has never failed prime in any other way besides a freeze. I needed to turn off the screen saver and leave prime maximized so i can at least see how long it runs. I am turning the monitors brightness down to the min. to lessen the effect of having it on so much. Its hard to imagine there isn't some tweaking that will let prime fail without a crash. We should share info so we can achieve the goal of having prime fail better

I currently have a very small overclock going and am playing with the ref voltage percentages for MCH and Cpu trying to find a sweet spot so i can ramp up the clocks faster.

any universal waterblocks fit? what about popping off the gigabyte "plate" to let more air flow?

Oh an why doesnt the board seem to have a nb temp sensor in HWmonitor or speedfan

perhaps, you should just attach a 80mm fan over it.

You need a new version of Acronis.

is there any thing i can change in the bios to get it to work i have me first boot device as my hard drive
You could change your sata to IDE mode, but I'm not sure if Windows would complain as they do the other way around.

accualy i cant understand why you chipset my be hot...
mine is really really cool even when on 600+ fsb or 500+ with a quad...
on 1.55 mch and 1.7 PLL it still not getting above 45...
maybe your settings are wrong or something idk...

I currently have a very small overclock going and am playing with the ref voltage percentages for MCH and Cpu trying to find a sweet spot so i can ramp up the clocks faster.
I had to go up one notch on the cpu ref and mch ref to get stable at 4.0ghz. My current voltages are - cpu term/vtt 1.20, cpu ref .785, mch ref .80, mch 1.280v. cpu 1.33125v mem on a 5:6 devider 333strap 240b 1130mhz., all other voltages set to normal, LLC disabled. Can get the same oc stable with LLC enabled at 1.256??v. Ran prime over night trying 4.05 ghz but kept an eye on it for the first 15 minutes or so. Got up this morning and it was still frozen at the "using FFT length 8K" which is the second test, around 7 hours later. I am able to see where it freezes even when setting the monitor to shut off after 20 minutes but man a simple PRIME FAILED or BSOD, even one that corrupted my install at this point would be a pleasant change. Have removed all heavy, or sharp object from my computer room to help preserve the life of this motherboard . I hope that a bios update "SOON" will help fix this problem. My P5KDeluxe never did this, prime failed or it passed or maybe a BSOD but never this.

Is there the possibility that this freezing could be related to gfx drivers? As a last resort I took the gtx280 out and put in cf 4850's in hopes it would pull similar voltages and rule out a psu voltage deficiency issue, running prime ATM at 4.1gh same voltages as before when it froze up. Still going strong after the "ftt length of 8k" which is the normal freeze up point. if it passes Ill know what the problem was i guess. I dunno

I hope your not talking about the "system temp" that ET6 reports, as that is the southbridge temp. This board doesn't have a NB temp sensor. So your NB is getting hotter then you think

People with hot graphics cards notice higher "system temps" then people with cool video cards because of this.

That explains why my NB temp didn't drop at all when I attached a fan to it

This is driving me crazy. As I said before I did 5 hrs Orthos Blend, and then would get random BSOD on bootup (I shut down every night and turn back on in morning). On suggestions from here I raised PLL from 1.50 to 1.57v, VTT from 1.26 to 1.28v, CPU ref from .760 to .785v (ET6). I then was able to run Orthos Blend for 8 hrs last night without issue. I shut down for the night and when I turned on this morning...BSOD. Any more tips would be grealy appreciated! Is this a CPU or RAM thing?

For me, cold boot instability came down to vMCH.... try raising it 1 or 2 notches.

blustang,i agree with what new-b said. i had the same issue stable then bsod or three reboots(OC-failure screen).and it was because my performance level was too low for my vmch and vdimm, once i raised my vmch and vdimm all good or if i raised my PL to 9 that worked also.so try messing with those three things.start with vmch up one notch.thenif it still does it try vdimm.

The problem I was having with the freezing was human error, a setting I didn't change in the BIOS after defaulting it to flash. GFX adapter was set to PCI by default not PEG/PCIExe. I never thought to look until someone asked me if it was set to PEG. No more freezing issues.

here's what mine looks like had to make it fit, 60mm was max for the MCW30 guess the holes where lil wider

also why do i have to use more CPU Termination and MCH Core then what some of you guys are using
