    First up..Single 4850

I am coming for you Chew. LOL. On a serious note, here is my run with one card. I have to mod the second card (if I can) then I will run 2 cards. I hope to get good results. Do these look promising for a starter?

hmm not sure lol, haven't tried them single card yet, I should probably do that, hd4870 cracks 19K single @ 4.0 not pushed to hard with asus top bios for reference, voltmods plus the diamond bios maybe 19,5-20k

I'm guessing if you really push the gpu hard 17,500 is doable @ 4.0?

I'm playing with hybrid right now 4870/4850. Gonna retest but amd really needs to get core speeds up/nb speeds up in retail chips as intial testing showed maybe 50 points diff versus 2x 4850's, we are talking with an 870core/1100 hd4870/ 700core/1200 4850. I may flash the diamond bios in a bit.

I might tweak some more. I am on NewEgg now just about to order another card, either a 4870 or a 4850x2. Not to much price difference. I need a chilled water setup or something. If my temps jump near 50*c stuff starts crashing. I had to drop the vcore from 1.52 with the 1800HT to 1.488 with the 2600HT to keep temp in line. I have to crank my 120mm's at 12v to Keep my RAD cool. Both had 2600NB and 4.0ghz CPU.

Here charged maybe this will help you make a decision same settings as my 3.6 gig run with 2x4850 19706 score

    4870/4850 Hybrid
Both cards are at they're max stable clocks, not worth the price diff in my opinion for only 400 points and taking to consideration that the 4850's have more potential if CCC limits were gone.

Interesting...I think I will do the 4850 x2 for quadfire or a 4850 for some tri-fire. the 4850 is cheap. and I found a really cheap 4850x2. Radio Shack is out of 100k trim pots and only had a 50k. I figure this should do just fine for my volt mod.

I went from 16042 in 3d06 to 17030 when jumping from 700mhz to 800mhz on the GPU. If I can get both cards at those setting, it should net me a decent result. What do you think?

yah it should decent #rs ballpark 23k, after 2 cards scaling really goes downhill in 06 though, might want to think about that if your thinking trifire, I think the same for actual games as well. I thought that people were using 10k 15 turn for the mod. I would pencil it first to see if you net any gains.

100k for high resolution. 50k will do fine as well. It is for higher fine tuning the v's. Tho the 100k's seem like you have to turn them for ever to get the desired voltage at first. once found you can tuning better, if that makes any sense.

I am going to to do some Vantage runs as well. I just know the price is extremely right on this 4850x2.

I managed to work some magic on the visiontek 4850 512mb bios, unlocked 800 core / 1300 memory limits in overdrive and it passes digital signature etc It works with all drivers....Nothing else is modified.

It may work with other reference version cards........I am working on higher but atm it does not work with all drivers.

You will most certainly need volt mods for higher clocks as well as better cooling....

    Usual disclaimer applies

***Flashing a modded bios to your video card voids warranty as does overclocking. You choose to use this at your own risk and I will not be held responsible, nor will ATI,AMD or visiontek***

http://members.cox.net/nfridenti/test1.bin rename to .rom where applicable......

Shot of it working with driver version ( 8.12 ) and Overdrive.

So you said not all versions...I just downloaded it. Why do I need to rename it .rom?

winflash won't recognize .bin, I never flash from windows personally.

It technically should work on all reference cards. I know it won't on non reference cards using samsung ram.

Stage 1 card preparation, they will be waterchilled via my liquid frostbyte chiller, I can avoid coldbug 100% by this method.

I needed an alternative cooling solution in order to permanently mount the ramsinks etc etc. The vantec covers all my needs and vents hot air outside a case for 24/7 operation and does an excellent job keeping the cards cool and quiet.

Just a single vantec weighs about as much at 2 4850 stock coolers.

You don't see to many of these anymore, still around since x800 days and they still fit

Unfortunately, hardcore 940 BE + 2X4850's on dice are postponed to complete my 720BE roundup of results with DI. Air results can be seen here with 720 BE in this thread.

sorry if this is slightly off topic, but seeing as you have the same board as me perhaps you can lend me some help on this matter

im running my 940BE at 3.6Ghz with 1.4v set on BIOS + windows vista 64 but strangely enough i find that when running prime95 the board overvolts the cpu vcore up to 1.44 (according to AOD)

since i was intending to keep this for a 24/7 clock i was wondering if you think this is safe? I'm running it under a xigmatek 1283 and load temps after half hour worth of prime torture it gets up to 46º full, and it idles around 31º

what do you think? (BTW, bios version is F3)

    thanks in advance

I think 3.6 @ 1.45 load with 46C is more than reasonable enough for 24/7 usage. I would just place a fan over the PWM to aid longevity.

After ATI 'fixed' the newer drivers to no longer work with modified clocks that unlock the 700 Mhz core limit I started using ATI tray tools to overclock which allows up to 937Mhz with overdrive disabled. Then I just used a modified BIOS to apply the powerplay settings so the card would idle at lower power usage.

This allows the BIOS to function with any ATI driver version I am currently using 9.1.

Is there some reason why you need to unlock the limits in the BIOS? Software doesn't require this to pass 700Mhz. The only reason I can see for unlocking the limits would be for using Linux which has no software available.

I prefer to not use ATI tray tools, my clocks load with windows as well. I also did it becasue it was a challenge just like everything else.

    Fair enough

Chew I am testing ACC on my Phenom 2 now to see if it makes any difference to my CPU seeing as you had some success using it. Can you tell me what setting you used? At the moment I have per core mode set to 0% on all 4 cores I am going to take it to my previous limit and try some adjustments to see what happens but any advice would be welcome.
