Both cards are at they're max stable clocks, not worth the price diff in my opinion for only 400 points and taking to consideration that the 4850's have more potential if CCC limits were gone.

Interesting...I think I will do the 4850 x2 for quadfire or a 4850 for some tri-fire. the 4850 is cheap. and I found a really cheap 4850x2. Radio Shack is out of 100k trim pots and only had a 50k. I figure this should do just fine for my volt mod.

I went from 16042 in 3d06 to 17030 when jumping from 700mhz to 800mhz on the GPU. If I can get both cards at those setting, it should net me a decent result. What do you think?

yah it should decent #rs ballpark 23k, after 2 cards scaling really goes downhill in 06 though, might want to think about that if your thinking trifire, I think the same for actual games as well. I thought that people were using 10k 15 turn for the mod. I would pencil it first to see if you net any gains.

100k for high resolution. 50k will do fine as well. It is for higher fine tuning the v's. Tho the 100k's seem like you have to turn them for ever to get the desired voltage at first. once found you can tuning better, if that makes any sense.

I am going to to do some Vantage runs as well. I just know the price is extremely right on this 4850x2.

I managed to work some magic on the visiontek 4850 512mb bios, unlocked 800 core / 1300 memory limits in overdrive and it passes digital signature etc It works with all drivers....Nothing else is modified.

It may work with other reference version cards........I am working on higher but atm it does not work with all drivers.

You will most certainly need volt mods for higher clocks as well as better cooling....

    Usual disclaimer applies

***Flashing a modded bios to your video card voids warranty as does overclocking. You choose to use this at your own risk and I will not be held responsible, nor will ATI,AMD or visiontek***

http://members.cox.net/nfridenti/test1.bin rename to .rom where applicable......

Shot of it working with driver version ( 8.12 ) and Overdrive.

So you said not all versions...I just downloaded it. Why do I need to rename it .rom?

    Thanks by the way

winflash won't recognize .bin, I never flash from windows personally.

It technically should work on all reference cards. I know it won't on non reference cards using samsung ram.

Stage 1 card preparation, they will be waterchilled via my liquid frostbyte chiller, I can avoid coldbug 100% by this method.

I needed an alternative cooling solution in order to permanently mount the ramsinks etc etc. The vantec covers all my needs and vents hot air outside a case for 24/7 operation and does an excellent job keeping the cards cool and quiet.

Just a single vantec weighs about as much at 2 4850 stock coolers.

You don't see to many of these anymore, still around since x800 days and they still fit
