@4GHZ HT:off, i can prime for several houser, and pass memory tests with these values:

    @4GHZ HT:off (200x20), 1.31v(load) and 1.26v VVT :

    @4GHZ(19x211) HT:off, 1.28v(Load) and 1.29v VVT. This primes with 1.26v too.

But the moment it hits @4GHZ, HT:on, it fails at the moment i start prrime95 with 1.33v(load) and 1.32v VVT. I tried a few other Vcore and VVT too, but still fails/freezes at the first moment of prime95. This doesn't BSOD as usual (when it needs more Vcore), but freezes. It seams to need tweaking on other values. What is your opinion?

You have a big and important point here, and it deserves further investigation. Could this be the reason for less Vcore with my 1.29 VVT?.
@4GHZ HT:off (200x20), 1.26v VVT it needs at least 1.31v(load) to be primestable. But
@4GHZ(19x211) HT:off, 1.29v VVT it is primestable with only 1.28v and even 1.26v(load).

I never figured the reason for this difference, could that "little extra" VVT be the reason?

maybe D0 stepping i7 920 by then heh.

Just doing some quick Super Pi 32M tests to see how this 2nd i7 920 cpu does in terms of raw cpu overclocks and to my surprise it handles like my 1st i7 920 even down to it's max Hyperthreading enabled Super Pi 32M ceiling being under 4500Mhz. On air cooling, anything over 4500Mhz will reboot part way through Super Pi 32M with HT enabled. Need to disable HT to pass Super Pi 32M at >4500Mhz speeds.

    Max 32M

Haven't pushed it higher than 1.536v vcore yet.

Good quick Super Pi 32M results .

You have chosen the easy (and always correct) answer.

I kept the same VVT (1.29v) and Vdimm(1.63v), and same 6-6-6-24 x6 mem, that i have used for @4GHZ Ht.Off (1.26v) and have been primestable, and only raised Vcore (to several values between 1.32- 1.35v) to stabilize @4GHZ HT:on. But it gave me instant freeze at the start of the prime95. I raised VVT too (between 1.31v to 1.43), and this is in line with your suggestion, and it still freezes. i didn't touch Vdimm or timings.

It seams that i have to hit a "sweet spot" for vcore, vtt and vdimm (that i haven't yet been able to find) to get it primestable @4GHZ + HT.

Try enabling turbo mode and use 191 BCLK. Alot of boards just aren't prime stable above 200 BCLK. I've never tested HT off on any of my stablity tests.

nice score to EVA and the other guys......and also tq to HASAN.
This board is amazing for my first try. although at first i'm so confused with my multi setting but thanx to eva for the 22x multi setting hint, who let me have 27x multi for now. since my last board give me a very easy multi setting not like this board who only have 24x for normal.

I'm still in process av getting to know the limits av my board and CPU for 24/7. I hope i can find the right spot (Vcore/VVT/Vdimm) to get it primestable @4GHZ (211x19), HT:on. It is SuperPI 32M stable with (1.29/1.31/1.63), and i hope to get it primestable with some further tweaking.

If one broad could to do it, it would be this board, and if there is one 920 could do it, it would be my B-batch. I haven't given up my hope on DFI, yet.

crazy clocks Nemesis! congrats so near 5ghz

I'm testing my 2nd i7 920 3836A756 here and it's noticeably different from my 1st i7 920 of same batch in various ways, i.e. handles lower cpu vtt and higher bclk, but when it comes to high mem clocks >DDR3-2000Mhz and high QPI frequencies, it seems it has a more strict relationship between cpu vtt and vcore once above 1.48v cpu vtt and likes vcore to be 0.02-0.08v close to it. My first i7 920 didn't have so a strict relationship.

    So guys anyone have a i7 920 with such a similar relationship to my 2nd i7 920 ?

This seams to hold true for lower (24/7) voltages too on my CPU. I tried different values and the lowest Vcore i could get it primestable @3.8GHZ HT:on was with 1.275000v/1.28(VCore/VVT BIOS) which ends up as 1.232/1.28 (Vcore/VVT Load) , which is in 0.02-0.08 range.

    Hi Eva2000,

Have given up on the P6T WS Professional and BloodRage is nowhere to be found here in the wilderness so it looks like I am ordering the T3EH8 tomorrow. Any particular BIOS you would recommend with i965 and Dominator GT 2000 sticks?

Also thanks for the various links summing up your experiences with this board. Impressive work. Never seen anything like it!

If you have missed, HT:on is the heat producing monster that pushes my god old air cooling to its limits.

My B-batch-babe has been priming pass the "kill zone" @4GHZ(211x19) with 1.34/1.32/1.63 (Vcore/VVT/Vdimm, Load). Vcore has been flipping between 1.34-1.32v under the run.

At BCLK 211, it used to freeze at the first moment or first minute av priming with several other vales that i have tried. I have to experiment more to conclude, but for now, it seams to be running more stable with VVT close to Vcore.

I'm using the same cooling i had om my old E8400 @4.2GHZ (Noctua NH-U12P + 1200RMP Scythe S-flex) and it seams to be out of date. I have to improve cooling for 4GHZ + HT:on! I had to stop the prim until i get a better cooling. But it has passed the "kill zone" and i hope @4GHZ HT:on and BCLK 211 can be primestable, and is within reach for 24/7 with some improvement (maybe with 2000RPM?) om my current air-cooling.

Yeah I've seen a few cpus like that on the forums but if you move the cpu vtt further away from vcore do you get instability ?

Also thanks for the various links summing up your experiences with this board. Impressive work. Never seen anything like it!

I think Sam is confirming my theory that some i7 cpus like cpu vtt and vcore closer together for stability.

I think so, but I have to experiment more to conclude. So far, I have made several observations that it primes more stable with VVT close to Vcore at higher BCLK with HT:on.

At lower speeds and BCLK, @3.8GHZ HT:on (201x19), or when the HT is disabled @4GHZ HT:off (211x 19) this doesn't have much affect on prime stability.

But at higher speeds and BCLK and HT:on, @4.0GHZ HT:on (211x19), it seams to have a dramatic effect. It has been primeing much more stable with VVT close to Vcore. I had several several stable run (up to 10 minutes, but not longer because of the limitation of my cooling) with VVT close to Vcore (1.34/1.32), (1.32,1.32) range. Otherwise (when there is big gap between VVT and Vcore) it freezes at the first moment (or first minute) of priming, even with higher Vcore. This gap seams to have an effect on Vcore too, and I'm still working to find the sweet spot for my CPU ...

Ah sounds alot like my 2nd i7 920 cpu. My 1st i7 920 is way different in this regard though heh.

has anyone tried latest bios 2009-02-06 http://img.lanparty.tw/Upload/BIOS/CM/LX58D206.exe ?
    Major Reasons of Change:
    1. Update micro code for PCIE root port Max Link Width reported as x4.
    2. Remove floppy B.
    3. Remove Reset Configuration Data Item.
    4. Remove COM by Auto.
    5. Make sure legacy mode only be enabled in IDE mode.

Ah new bios.. must try later though... feel free to be a guinea pig first

    Since I'm testing my 2nd i7 920 3836A756, I thought I'd revisit this mismatched Samsung HCF0 based 3x1GB configuration to see how well this 2nd i7 920 3836A756 cpu clocks memory compared to 1st i7 920 results here.

This second i7 920 doesn't disappoint, resulting in a higher max Super Pi 32M stable memory clock of DDR3-2237Mhz 9-9-9-24 1T but at slightly higher volts. CPUZ Validation is higher if you only count the validation which reported 3x1GB modules as triple channel at DDR3-2283Mhz 9-9-9-24 1T vs DDR3-2263Mhz 9-9-9-24 1T. If you count validation of 3x1GB which reported as dual channel due to lack of volts then 1st i7 920 still comes out on top at DDR3-2298Mhz 9-9-9-24 1T.

    i7 920 3836A756 #1
    • Max Super Pi 32M = DDR2-2228Mhz at 1.995v vdimm (CPU VTT 1.61v)
    • Max CPUZ Validation = DDR3-2263Mhz at 1.995v (CPU VTT 1.61v)
    • Max CPUZ Validation (but cpuz reported as dual channel) = DDR3-2298Mhz at 2.025v bios (CPU VTT 1.61v) **

** Most likely due to inadequate volts leading to dual channel being reported instead of triple channel)

    i7 920 3836A756 #2
    • Max Super Pi 32M = DDR2-2236Mhz at 2.01v vdimm (CPU VTT 1.63v)
    • Max CPUZ Validation = DDR3-2283Mhz at 2.01v (CPU VTT 1.63v)
