mattlyall06,take my advice and get the Q9650 instead.you will not be disapointed.the 9x is worth the extra money.and it just rocks with these boards.4 ghz is very easy with the 9650.ref values, you are correct.you will have to mess around with them and find your board and cpu's sweet spot.but its not that hard ,most new users are able to get there in anywhere from 2hrs to 3 days, just depends on how much you do your research.once you get your stuff feel free to ask for help, there are alot of great members here that are very helpful, wont name names cause there are so many and they know who they are.good luck

All this talk of 4.0ghz+ Q9650's makes me sad that I have a first run E8400. Hitting 4005mhz on my IP35-E was easy. Getting there on my UD3P is taking some work. I bought this board because I heard it was awesome at overclocking and hitting high FSB but so far I've just been disappointed.

Look at other peoples templates for a starting point. Also, first try overclocking just the CPU or RAM. Once you know that one is stable, go for the other.

loads the green bar then BSOD, even on standard settings.

Running memtest to check the ram. If it passes will clear the bios and try from there.
You should always have a backup image of your system drive before you overclock. Windows can get corrupted while finding a stable overclock, so it's not necessarily a hardware problem that you can't boot anymore. Did you try with optimized defaults? Also, be sure to check your SATA options and see if it's IDE/ACHI/RAID as it was before.

I have tried optimized defaults but still will not load.
Funnily enough I have an image of the disk made 10mins before I started OC'ing! So thats all safe.
Memtest have been running for 3 hrs, 4 passes, no errors. Time to try that imaged drive I think!

    Cheers for the suggestion.

Hey guys, was wondering if I can get any input on this problem I'm having. I am trying to setup a RAID0 array and I can get into the BIOS and enable it, and get to the RAID setup utility and get my array all setup fine. When I try to load Vista (64bit business), I get a BSOD. It keeps crashing until I disable RAID again. I am using the F7 BIOS and my 2 drives I am RAIDing are in ports 2 and 3 (same model, of course), and my main system disk is in 0. Any ideas why this is happening? They show up individually in Windows fine and I can format them into single drives, but I would rather have them in RAID.

one other thing i had the ddr3 version and it does not do this noise also it does not change voltage when llc is enabled where as the ddr2 board i have now does by one notch or 0.00625v???

Anyone have troubles getting their ud3p to boot from a usb-drive?
I updated my bios via usb-drive; and I have 2 bootable usb-dirves that I have been using on other computers for a while. I set it up in bios to boot off of a usb-hdd, and I have even tried the BOOT Menu off of the bios screen, it just ignores my usb drives and boots off of the C: drive?
    Any help would be appreciated.

You have to edit the boot priority: 1st) usb-hdd 2nd)hdd, have you done that?

ok,i just flshed to bios f4 and i noyiced some strange things. first off ive always used bios F5 until i got my quad, that when i flashed to F8a(bugged w/ET6)so i flashed to F7.while on F7 i noticed that i could no longer use the 333strap(manually setting it)would not boot 500fsb ddr1200 as i always did.if i left strap and divider on auto it would boot 500fsb ddr1200 fine.also i noticed that my usb keyboard would not work on bootup, until i went in bios w/standard keyboard plugged in and enabled usb keyboard tab.something i never had to do with bios F5,it was enabled by default.so today i flashed to bios F4 and noticed that things were diferent in the integrated periphials tab,for instance on bios F7 usb keyboard tab is down at the bottom of page disabled.on bios F4 it is like right at the top of the page enabled, there are some other things different but i cant put my finger on what they are.but to the big issue with bios F4 i am now able to manually set strap 333 and divider 2.04b ddr1200 and it boots perfectly and requires less vdimm to do it. just thought id let you guy know so if someone else has these issues this might help.

If your using 2:40B strap you can only raise the MCH Vcore to a certain voltage (for me till 1.440 for other less), more then that it won't boot or boot with safe settings. Dunno if you're talking about this issue or not.

Awesome at overclocking and hitting high FSB, Yes

Easy hmmm, this board is in mine opinion picky with MCH core volt and MCH ref but once you have learn how it works it´s okey.

    Here´s posts with E8400 at FSB 500 and 550.

    Cool.
Reloaded my disc image and PC all booting fine again

Now to get back to my 475fsb issue!

I will go back to the settings that booted and ran ok till I put it into sleep S3, but will lock the settings that were on auto.
Is it best to run ET6 and check what its reporting volts to be after booting? I know I need to tweek a couple, (MCH core and MCH ref?) to suit my mobo/cpu combo, is that right?

i'm looking into getting one of these just to try out. is there any OC'ing advantage using the top model UD3P as opposed to the gimped UD3L or UD3R? i don't need dual LAN, xfire, or dolby sound.

Was it in IDE before? You can't change it to AHCI/RAID if you installed Windows with IDE. There are some guides how to do it afterwards. Try to Google it.

Did you change the Hard Disk boot priority? I've tied booting from USB with my UD3R, changed the priority and all, but it still didn't work. Haven't tried another USB drive though, just one.

I suggest you go for the e8400 if you can, as it seems to overclock a lot better.

Already picked up the e7400, $99 at Microcenter. This will be the first overclockable rig that I get to build and keep, not really worried about big numbers yet, just want to have some fun.
    Anyone see any other issues?
    Thanks

3.8-4ghz is dead easy ChuckM, my E7400 however is limited at 480FSB on the P45T UD3P ( bad dividers in the bios ) yet it booted nicely at 500FSB in windows on the P5Q pro... make sure you get a good cooler as these cpu's are hotheads compared to the E8 series

Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

Remark : They call me Pro Asus Saaya yupp, I agree

apparently this is a common problem(high pitched noise)with these boards.i think it has something to do with the PWM when under heavy load.i dont know if there is a solution for this.i have seen a few guys RMA thier board for a new one.

    hmmm

Tried to warn you Bob about the ep45t. I was running the crucial 2000 cas 9 2gig kit on it, got it to 2000 but very unstable, but ran fine at 1800. Gigabyte has it listed as compatable on the board, and will run 2100mgz, that just isnt true, it was very very hard to get it to run 2000, and lots of lockups.
