In reality though the HDD speed does govern the responsiveness of a pc. If you have two identical pc's (cpu, ram, gpu etc) but in one system you have say an SSD or VELOCIRAPTOR, and in the other you have an older spec HDD like say an 80GB MAXTOR IDE then you most certainly notice a difference in system response times.

I do however agree that the way they calculate your HDD score based on size aswell as read/write speeds is a bit odd. Since I could use 12xSSD's in RAID0 then make an OS partition of say 10GB....7 would rate that very low, even though the read speed is immense

hehee you might be surprised, my little HP runs very well with 7 installed. The only real letdown is the fact I partitioned the drive
