I've been curious for to get more detailed feedback myself. In over a year of teh hack, I still cant get any clear cut daily user feedback as to its functions in Sleep and Hibernate and on the 5:6 CPU:RAM divider?

Also I realized the RAM I asked about was not available and just now found out it is shipping out tomorrow so I can find out for myself now. I ordered the OCZ Flex EX PC2-9600 in the 2x2g kit and may try the PC3-16000 on my other X48 set.

Anybody else running newer rated DDR1200 on x38?

I've posted here before with my problem, and today I got back to testing again.

For some reason whenever I overclock and Prime95 the whole thing Core 0 seems fine with it but core 1 stops after a while (when using separate affinities). When I assign both Cores to Prime95 the whole thing stops right after a few seconds (same goes for OCCT, same script anyway)

My temps are perfectly fine 47-50 degrees. Another interesting note here is that Core 0 (altough not assigned) gets hotter than Core 1, about 2-3 degrees.

I'm currently running my rig at:
    8*500 = 4GHz (E8400 C0) 1.45v, VID 1.225 (yes I know that's ridiculous)
    1:2 = 1000MHz CL5 (OCZ FlexXLC PC2-6400 CL3) (2.3v)

I'm running these rather high voltages to make sure I'm having enough juice on there. The temps are just fine.

I am to say that there's something wrong with this processor, or at least a core of it.

While posting I am running Prime95 on Core 1. After two tests Worker 2 gave up due to a false rounding of the processor.
    Worker 1 is still running.

Worker 1 failed after test 8

I would suggest to have a look at GTL references, there's an excellent thread on the topic here

Usually, one core failing with a rounding error can be corrected for by using CPU GTL referencing, most common way is to set it at 0.63x and go up if necessary.

What about your other voltages (VTT, vNB)?

    Ah, Nederlander

I'll post the voltages tomorrow I think since I'm lacking time and energy right now, but they're all rather high.

The CPU GTL reference is, I'm pretty sure, on 0.67x and the other one, whatever it's named is set to 0.63x (both their maxes, afaik).

I'll buy 4x1GB of 8500 Tracers right now so they should be in around monday or tuesday.

    Hehe Nederlander indeed...

Yeah the GTL reference voltage needs to be calculated according to the maths in the linked thread. For me, with 1.3v VTT, 0.63x seemed to be the best match, but this all depends on your voltages, cpu and motherboard. My NB GTL doesnt like to be touched at all, whereas others seem to have good results with 0.67x. It requires some trial and error but does help stabilize high FSBs it seems. I guess at 500 fsb, your NB voltages are quite crucial as well.

Are you getting the double or single-sided tracers? My x48 P5E dlx hated the guts of the single-sided- I could not for the life of me get them to run stable so I hope you're getting te double sided ones! (although people's experiences seem to differ on these boards...)

let us know how it goes!

Most 8400 have stuck temps sensors, everyone argues over the tjmax so its really a matter of how comfortable are you with the way everything runs.
You seem to have investigated your problem, so maybe trying 3 or 4 different apps to check temps, then take teh average and run with that?
Dont rely on anything from Asus for temps, they coudnt code a screen saver
ASUS coding a screen saver that showed your mobo sensor info..

I think the latest Everest beta is showing my temps correctly now, before it would always be around 10c too much.

I'll update you guys on my situation as soon as I get the Crucial sticks, which should be tomorrow or the day after.

Since I bought them new, I do have the bad feeling they will be single-sided, but heck, it's still a lot better than OCZ FlexXLC PC2-6400 CL3 which run up to 1000MHz.

Question on the good ol' Crucial Tracers? If I want how can I confirm they will be the early revisions other then double sided? What sites (net stores) will know that before shipping?

That can get a little tricky. If I remember correctly, the old revisions had serial number BL2KIT12864AL1065. But looking at, for example, this site (where I had bought mine which turned out to be single-sided) lists both BL2KIT12864AL1065 and BL2KIT12864AL106A as the serial. Upon delivery it turned out to be the BL2KIT12864AL106A kit (I'm pretty sure) which would not for the life of me get my computer to run Vista stably, even at stock. But as I said, people's experiences seem to differ on this matter, so I'm curious what you will find Allubz!

I guess personally I would write the etailer an email if you wanna make sure which version it is exactly, and what crucial told me back then (~5 months ago) was that the double-sided were almost not available anymore. PriceGuideNetwork still lists them as BL2KIT12864AL1065 but I check with them before doing anything...

    Got 'em.

    4x BL2KIT12864AL106A

Let's get to the RAM first then, shall we.

    333 / 1066 / CL5 / 2.0v - As spec'ed
    344 / 1101 / CL5 / 2.2v
    360 / 1152 / CL5 / 2.2v
    367 / 1175 / CL5 / 2.2v
    375 / 1200 / CL5 / 2.2 - 2.4v

This makes me a tad sad.

    BIOS:
    Multi: 6
    PCIE: 100
    DRAM timings: 5-5-5-18-2N
    CPU: 1.4v
    PLL: 1.5v
    NB: 1.55v
    DRAM: 2.1v (+0.1 ASUS gift)
    FSB: 1.4v
    SB: 1.050v
    SB: 1.5v
    LoadCal: Enabled
    Spread Spectra: Disabled

All other settings on auto since I don't really know how to set them to actually be as loose as possible to allow maximum overclocking, to tighten them later.

Someone claimed the newer BallistiX have Powerchips on them, but I thought that would only be true for the 2GB DIMMs, any input on this is also appreciated.

    Currently running:

    8.5*470 = 4GHz 1.4v
    1128-5-5-5-18-2N 2.2v

You are a where that crucial ballistix tracers are NOT campatible with X38 chipsets right.

    Oh really >.<

I thought I've seen enough different boards to think they're good on any chip.

How's a P45 board? I might just sell this one off and buy a decent P45 board.
I'm not going NV chips for sure, nor do I feel like changing CPU brands atm.

I suppose the X48 boards aren't any better with it either?

Anyone EVER heard of this P/N: BL1286AL106A.8FE5

I can't seem to find it anywhere!

Anyone run 8GB memory on the Maximus Formula? And if so does are there any performance gains/losses or NB heat issues?

I'm getting memory erros with my reapers and was thinking down the lines of a set of 2x2GB or 4x2GB Corsair Dominators.

Dominators are great ram, if you get the right IC's you'll be very happy with them.
8GB's is a tad overkill imo unless you do alot of heavy encoding or auto cad, 8GBs will be harder on the MCH wont clock as high and will be harder to get high FSB overclocks stable
If you do not have a legit reason for 8GBs then I would not make the investment but thats my

    Hi

I have some problems with OC on my Maximus Formula, I can't get my Q6600 pass 3DMark06 cpu test on anything above 3.6Ghz, i managed to get 3.69Ghz but very unstabile, is it the overheating or some thing else.

I would stay away from Crucials and this board, I've had about 3 pairs of the ballistix 8500's and they never worked correctly on this board. After switching to G.skill have not had a single issue for almost over a year.

Guys, i need HELP in a bad way. I flashed my P5E to the Rampage bios months ago, currently using the 0701 bios. Now my board is actin flakey, not recovering correctly ect. I have tried to flash back to the P5E bios to no avail. Keep getting invalid something or another when using the bootable usb stick method. I have my usb stick all set up, and the latest P5E bios on it.

Can sombody post the EXACT thing that i need to type in at the dos promt?? The AFUDOS /I ect, ect???

    The bios is named P5E-ASUS-1102.ROM.

I wanna put it back to a "stock" bios to see if the flakiness goes away....

    Any help is appreciated....

Cool Zuker, ill give it a go....

Woot!! It worked...... But it didnt solve my issue.... Only way to get the board to recover is to unplug the power supply from board, and let it set about 10min.... Maybe its time for a RMA....

i am thinking of replacing my e6850 with a e8400, e8500 or e8600 as my e6850 will not do what i want it to do on air.. the most i can get out of it is about 3.79 and it has been running at 3.6 24/7 for almost a year. i am hoping to get 4.0. i see the e8400 does that for many people with fairly low volts but don't see to much info on the other two i listed.. which one do you think i should get? the e8400 is 160-170 and the e8500 is about 10 more the e8600 is way more. is it that much better? if the 8400 will do what i want is there any reason to spend any more for one of the others? i am not looking to break any records or anything just get a little higher oc with maybe less volts and close to the same temps.. once i start upping my volts to get this one to work any higher funky things start happening due to heat being on air?? thanks.
