And the yield drops in turbo mode above 1,35V Vcore (with an i-920)
How can anybody develope such a beautiful board, call it
Extreme Overclocking and tweaking fun and build in such a brake

I canīt believe it. I still hope, that this is repairable by a new bios.

Empty your mind. Be formless, shapeless. Like water. You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle. You put in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Water can flow, or it can crash.

Hes talking about Dice/phase or ln2. even with that some are saying the differences are not that great, but of course it will deal with the thermal throttling that is occuring, even 'chilled water' will help and probably the most cost effective way of getting the most from the chip.

Recently a friend had a 965 on a single stage phase unit which incidently copes well with qxxxx series chips but struggled with the 965 holding any reasonable clocks at high bclk. of course that could have been a bum chip.

My cascade will be regassed withing 2 weeks, im running a 920 so it will be interesting to see what difference that makes, ill let you guys know how it copes up.

Having said all that for anyone looking for 24/7 clocks, Id say 3.8ghz is perfect even on air with this set up the performance gains are noticable and comparible generally with much higher clocked 775 socket chips so in that respect im happy and its all good!

I just added a new sound card (X-FI Titanium Fatal1ty Pro) to my bottom pciex16 slot and ever since, I've been experiencing random bsod's in 2d mode, just opening windows, ie explorer, etc. Hasn't bsod'd in games yet, but probably just a matter of time.

This happens with stock settings, ( cpu, mem, gpu)....

Do I need to mess around with IOH/ICH??? They're all auto so far..

Yes.., I talk bout SS/Cascade/di or ln.., else I agree with dejanh.., no significant differens between chips.., obviously the 965 offers a great deal of more variety in settings.., can use ram more accurate...

A lil tip.., below is dual channel GSkill 1800.., 1.9 vdimm.., 1.4 Qpi singel GTX 295

So.., if old nice rams from previous 775 setup lays around.., test them.. :-)

Ofcourse PPU disabled and cascade is cooler...

.., not always need for tri channel.. :-)

Thanks scaramonga and dejanh for the useful replies on the 920 & 940 processor.

What make and model of RAM modules is everyone using on this board? I have some "old" Kingston HyperX DDR3 1625 modules, I'm unsure they'll work though.

Dejanh, for your 940 CPU, can't you clean it up and sell it on eBay? You'd at least get over $300 for it, which would buy you a 920 and have some cash spare. Just an idea.

Also the fan headers on this system, do they need 4-pin PWM or is 3-pin with tach output from the fan good enough for the board to control my fans?

    Thanks again.

Wow really nice work there mate and thnx for the tip, I'll test that out tommorow. Is that performance mode btw? If it is that is one sweet score, well done!

Edit: yes it is I just checked, really nice score man.

They may work? I suppose it depends on minimum vdimm for them, not too sure. I'm using Corsair Dom C8's, they work great.

I never use motherboard fan headers personally. I prefer to draw power from the PSU directly, rather than through the board, stability being the main reason.

Technically yes, I could sell the chip on flea-bay but I like it I am just not happy that I paid so much for it only to have it clock basically the same as an i7 920. I will most likely keep it, eventually modify my FZE to make a chilled water loop and then see what I can get with it. Probably fiddle with this in the second half of this year

That stuff they pulled about having to turn off PhysX is really lame. Nobody is gonna turn PhysX off and go for less performance in real life. It makes the bench even less comparable to real life than it already was. Benching used to be about tweaking a system to get max scores so that your real life apps would perform at a higher level, and so that you'd have at least some measure of performance, but now it's been turned into a dang game. Now it's all about spending rediculous amounts of money just to get a higher number that doesn't apply to anything.

Try manually set the PCI Express Selector to x16 x1 mode.

Anyways, for whatever bug got up me I went and switched to x16 x1 right off the bat. No BSOD here. Vista64.

I see. Can you please tell me the exact model of your Corsair Dominators? Just so when I order my RAM I get something that is known to work.

As for fans, I get your point, I like the idea of my fans controlled via the motherboard header, Q-Fan I believe it's called.

Windows 7 lowered my vantage scores quite a bit. Even with the same exact driver. I was scoring about 3K less with windows 7 compared to vista with the same exact drivers. Right now i score P26,460 in vantage with only one GTX 295. Pysix Enabled. 24,500 with physix disabled

    I'm currently running a Intel Core i7 920 on a Asus Rampage II Extreme @ 1001 board..

It's mounted within a Lian-Li PC-P80 and cooled by a Thermalright TRUE Black with 2x Noctua NH-P12 fans in a "pull-puss" combination, along with the three massive 140mm fans in front of the PC-P80 pushing a decent amount of air providing a good airflow throughout the box!

It's also a 120mm fan back that pulls the hot air out, along with one 120mm at the top..

Besides the Core i7 920 and Rampage II Extreme, I've got a set of 3x Corsair Dominator 1600Mhz @ CL8 @ 1.6V RAM, EVGA GTX295 graphic card, Intel Pro/1000 GT NIC, Auzentech Prelude 7.1 audio card, 3x VelociRaptors in a RAID0 configuration and 2x Western Digital Black 500GB in RAID0 configuration.

I've been running with the onboard audio, NIC etc.. turned off, no need for those. I'm running my hard drives in RAID, along with setting the DRAM to 1.6V (not auto) and the BLCK to 190 giving me 3.8GHz with HT enabled, the vcore is still set to auto?

This gives me around 2.0GHz idle, and 4.0GHz under load (no idea why the Intel SpeedStep actually boost the CPU frequency even more?) which ran Prime95 perfectly for over 14hours?

Though the Intel BurnTest is failing after like 1-3seconds? I don't really know if I should be worried about that or not?

Any suggestions on how I can enchant my settings?
Perhaps give a specific vcore voltage? Increasing / decreasing the BLCK? Lowering the multiplier?

Goto Advanced page, IIRC, the setting is under Chipset > Northbridge.
