    Hey guys,

I don't know if this is a noob question, but I just got a new system a couple of months ago P5Q-Deluxe, Q9550 etc. Just to clarify I didn't build it myself. The question I want to ask is in regards to the CPU fan. I think it was last week I noticed that the CPU fan wasn't spinning. I seem to remember it stopped running shortly after the system was in sleep mode. It's a Noctua 1300rpm fan on a TRUE.

The place I bought it from said this is normal and to go into the Bios and disable Q-Fan. Well I went into the Bios and Q-Fan is not enabled, it's already disabled. I tried unplugging the fan and noticed some dust on it so I blew it out and plugged it back in and on bootup it started working, then again today I noticed it stopped spinning.

Is there some other setting like Q-Fan I need to disable? I just want the fan to run at full speed all the time. If there is no other setting to try what should I do? Should I try a different fan or could the CPU fan header in the MB be faulty? It's plugged directly into the CPU fan header with the 3 pin plug.

Could it be a Bios problem? The MB is still running 0704.

    Anyone got any idea?

I'm not too keen leaving the Q9550 passive cooled.

OK if no one else replied so far, ill give it a try:

No other setting like q-fan in BIOS that i know of...

I dont have any straight answer to your question but if i were you, i would:
    1. plug it into one of the chassis fan connectors
    2. just change the fan, see if its working properly...

And i would update the BIOS - thats for sure.

Perhaps ppl, who actually use/used Noctua as a CPU fan on that mobo can comment on this1 and give you better answers/advices.

Does this happen only in sleep mode ? If so you have nothing to worry about

sounds like theres nothing wrong with the fan/mb,I also usea noctua to cool my cpu and in sleep mode all fans shut down hence "sleep mode"

Nope like I said I noticed it stopped spinning last week a little while after coming out of sleep mode. What I did then was turn the computer off a couple of times and it started working again by itself. Yesterday I tried doing the same thing, but it didn't work so I took the fan out gave it a clean uplugged it and plugged it back in and it started working again, then again was I was browsing the net it stopped spinning again.

It's not spinning right now, but the TRUE is keeping the CPU cool enough as the ambient temperature is quite low.

I'll try your suggestions thank you. I just hope it's not the MB that is screwed.

Should I update to the latest Bios or is there a different one to use? Also when updating do I have to reset the old Bios or can I just leave all the settings and update?
