very nice mate, seems like the gigabbyte clocks the Q9650 much better than the MF2...what vid is yours ? i can't get those clocks...

Definetly the P45 when it comes to the higher clocks. But I haven't explored the other aspects of P45 vs other chipsets when it comes to performance eg. gaming performance, video card (8x8 vs 16x16) etc etc....

But for pure high clocks and bench runs possibly P45 is the king...

I wish I had a lower VID chip I'd definetly go for 4.5Ghz+ my RE can easily boot into Windows at 500x9

@ Sergio - I think you can definetly get your 470x9 just got to find those settings. I remember for me, it took a while to get 4.2 Ghz stable whilst <4.2Ghz was very quick. But my hat goes off to those with the not so good chipsets and 1.25VID chips and 4.2Ghz+ stable as I know there is quite some fiddling to do

Very nice Nugzo that rig looks really good. I like the chipset cooling solution, that has to be a massive improvement over the standard heatsink. Any chance you can show us some benches I'd like to see what a quad at that speed and a GTX295 can do.

    new 9650

Ordered monday; received from newegg today.
    q9650 Batch# L828a480
vid: 1.1000v (according to CoreTemp 0.99.3)
Running now stock on an MSI Neo2FR p35 motherboard (rev. 1) until paday when I will be ordering a UD3P.
    CPU-z reports cpu volts @ 1.06 - 1.07 right now
Wish me luck, I hope I gotta good chip, because I spent a whole year with a crappy overclocker chip. I deserve a good one this time.
Anyone have any info on this batch #?
    Thank you guys.

I just got my 9650 in today also and so far is definitely looks to be better than my 9550. Idle and loaded temps are several degrees lower so hopefully its accurate. VID is 1.15 and batch is L827A945.

I just got my Q9650 today from newegg. it is batch: L826A965 with 1.25v vid

    4.2GHz (467 FSB * 9 multi) at 1.296v vcore at load (1.312 idle) and Running H2O.

    http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=490072

I made sure I was ready for this chip. I spent the last few days tweaking my motherboard and (now old Q6700) for a stable 467 FSB OC. Once I got it dialed in, It was a matter of just stabilizing the vcore. So far I am just past 6Hrs stable in Prime95.

I have been considering going with a UD3P to see what this chip can really do...

I tried this settings and tested carefully

CPU Skews Normal - NB Skew delay 100
RAM SKEWS all channels on 100
    NB GTL +40 /DDR REF +12,5 A/B
    NB DDR REF -25
    MEM OC Charger = disabled
    STATIC READ = disabled
    PL 7 / STRONGER

    vcore set on bios 1,4
    pll 1,526
    vtt 1,4
    nb 1,45
    sb 1 1,55
    sb 2 1.2

    CPU GTLS +10/-35/+10/-35

With this settings i passed 8hs MEMTEST no errors but i can only pas 15min BLEND...
I changed CPU GTLS but BLEND fails before or after---I also tried to run PL10, LIGHTER, seems the same, it doesn't come from memory as it passed overnight tests...

I don't know maybe is the chip i also tried with 1,42 vtt and no go also, more PLL also fails sooner, the only one is vcore at 1,4 set on bios it idles at 1,39 and loads 1,4.

    Hi Sergio

It might be possible that you have hit a limit on your CPU/Mobo...I really can't say for sure...the only way really is to either try some more or try a different setup....

It looks like you have done quite a bit of fiddling and still have had no luck.

From your previous post it seems you have already tried to fiddle with your CPU and NB skews....what happens when you raise the vCore? Also what happens if you raise the north bridge volt? In all honesty I haven't noticed any difference with my gaming with a 4.41Ghz and a 4Ghz...I just wanted to get the most out of my CrossFireX and will probably use my 4.23Ghz profile as a nice compromise 24/7.

I did a quick test on 470x9 with lowered vCore (1.36 load 1.35 idle) on my Prime Blend stable 4.2gb profile:

25 run IBT max stress ~3gb memory -

Thanks mate my chip or mobo or whatever reason needs 1,42 to pass that...

IN your same volts i can do stable 4140 (460x9) 1227 PL7 Stronger

ALSO on my sig speed i discovered that i need 2 notchs of vcore as i tested yesterday and gave me residual norm...so 4185 (465x9) 1240 PL7 Stronger needs 1,39 idle and 1,4 load

funny thing is that at this speed MEMS loves this 1200+ speed and PL7, i tested all overnite on memtest various times and passes perfect, but if i go on other mems settings i dig intro troubles, maybe it comes from that.

Cheers and thank you for your help.

EOD,very nice,is this your first quadcore?just curious as to what the learning curve is coming from a dual core.is there much difference OCing a quad?also what warehouse did newegg ship your 9650 from?EDIT-i just saw that you have a q6700 sorry.but maybe you can still give me some advice?

One last question here for my peace of mind. Is it "fairly safe" to run the Q9650 24/7 at 1.35 vcore if the max temps on all four cores never goes above 61C? I was able to get it stable at 4250MHz but I have to increase the vcore to 1.35(bios setting and reading at 1.347).

IMO as long as it is stable then its all good. How long will it last? I have no idea....for me as long as the load temps are <70 i'm happy.

I thought my 9550 was good but damn these chips are awesome! Loaded vcore is 1.200, bios setting 1.20625 for 4ghz. Now its time to see what it can really do.

I was already running a Q6700, so I had the board dialed in even before I got the Q9650. I always test at different FSB speed intervals I feel are important (just drop the multi to 6x and test the FSB to its limits).

But yeah, there is a difference between a dual core and a quad, mainly voltages. The NB voltage (MCH for Gigabyte) is higher for a quad then a dual core. For example, on my previous ASUS P5E, I could run a 515 FSB with 1.43v NB. But with a quad, I could only run a 423 FSB with 1.45v NB.

With the UD3P, I've seen 500+ FSB with quads, but it takes 1.5v MCH. The default is 1.10v for 400 FSB, so you can see just how much that is. Yet the board can push 671 FSB with a dual core.

As long as I can get the cpu to last me a year. That seems to be the upgrade cycle time for me and cpu's and 2 years on video cards(well most of the time 2 years.)
