You can either use an engineering version of AFUDOS and use certain commandline switches in DOS....

To find that, check out the Maximus Formula to Rampage crossflashing thread, or:

Flash the board again with the 1702 in the BIOS , and as the board erases the first portion of the BIOS ROM, turn the power off.

WARNING. This corrupts the BIOS and enforces an emergency flash mode.

You MUST have a bootable media ready then with the 1403 BIOS on it and it has to have a certain filename to be recognized. You can for example put one on a USB memory stick or a flash card in a flash reader.

The emergency flasher accepts floppies, CD or DVD media, and flash media.

Floppies are totally useless, the BIOS is 2 MB big and doesn't fit on a 1.44 MB HD floppy.

DVDs or CDs never worked for me except for the DVD that came with the board.

What worked for me before was a USB memory stick and a SD card holding the image file, using a MP3 player as cardreader.

Be extremely careful when doing anything that involves intentional corruption of the BIOS. It will render your system unusable for example if you don't have a flashable BIOS image at hand, OR if the BIOS image you want to use is TOO OLD to support your currently installed processor! (Been there, had the issue, back on my Maximus Formula when I upgraded to a Q9300! good that I still had my e6600 lying around!)

    I'm crossing fingers tho.
