Definately thinking about it, if I can only get them to give a refund
Bsel from 333FSB -> 400 and there that 30fsb with setfsb

    And i've noticed one thing:
When i shut down my comp and turn it on again (Happen [maybe] twice in month) sometimes the fsb is same where i left it with setfsp

I've Bsel 266->333 and there i've increased my fsb up to 379fsb, dunno is that just in my mobo or all of em

I don't understand- first you say Bsel 333->400 and then you say Bsel 266->333.

I think I'll get one of those SM boards for my 5420's, if I keep them. They do exactly FSB 430 24/7 stable with no Vcore/VTT option so it's about perfect for the X7DWA. BSEL mod to 400, rest with SetFSB.. and if I forget to set it, they are still at 3Ghz.

    Hehe,
    Ok:

You should do Bsel mod from 333FSB -> 400FSB. With your Harpers.

Iäm using that 266->333 Mod :]

Don't really know, had so many problems with it that I didn't dare run BOINC after it got unstable. Think BOINC was running about 3 days befor the trouble started.

    Hey all,
Just spoke to my supplier, getting a new board tomorrow morning. Can't get a refund right now, I first have to try the new board and if the problem persists, I can get a refund.
I don't know if you guys know about this:
Server Barebones and Motherboards 3 Year All ASUS Barebone Server / Server board purchased after August 16, 2004 will carry 3 year standard local warranty services. Certain countries will offer extended warranty coverage.
In Europe, All ASUS server motherboards and barebone servers are covered by a 3 year factory warranty and 3 year Advanced Replacement Service . In North America, All ASUS server motherboards and barebone servers are covered by a 3 year factory warranty and 1 year Advanced Replacement Service .
    American
    European
    Chinese
    Italian
You probably do, but I just thought I'd bring it to your attention in any case:
Check this link for Warranty Replacement Options & Instructions(in EUROPE)
    http://support.asus.com/repair/repai...Language=en-us
I just mentioned this to my supplier and they had no hassles sending the board immediately, and then I can just return the dead board within 14 days. So no RMA bull or anythingMuch better sevice from the supplier than from ANus.

Well technically the Z7S isn't a server-class mobo but a workstation-class mobo, which makes it non-eligible for that program. If they took yours, you are lucky
I know because I called the Asus server divison half a year back due to the bios issues, and they told me they couldn't help because the Z7S isn't their responsibility (or it wouldn't have such a messed-up bios, the "real" Asus server boards are tanks like the SM mobos, the D16 DSEB series etc).

Ok, so I got lucky this time. Hope they don't find out about it in the meantime. I just hope I don't have the same problems again.
What about the DSEB series, any OC opportunities? It's not much more expensive than the z7s

Same method as with the X7DWA really.. no FSB/Vcore/anything in bios (only multiplier), so you can do the pin mod to FSB 400 or go up using SetFSB. They should max out at around 430-440 as well, assuming your CPUs can do it without higher than stock Vcore.

Ok, so SM it is then, at least we know it's Rock Solid, isn't that part of Asus's slogan by the way?
Should I maybe do the pin mod now when I get the new board, I'm scared to touch any settings in BIOS, and then like you said, at least I'm on 3GHz. Have never done it before, is it difficult?

No, not really. Just need a tiny piece of insulation tape to cover 2 of the outer pins, like this:

Yellow pins must be covered, be sure to count them right and watch CPU orientation. Green pins are for VID modding, that's a lot harder to do though.

Yup , both my SuperMicro and Tyan boards did that. The clockgenerator is 'stuck' somehow

    I've this thought:
Since that mobo don't have OCing options it don't have to refresh clockgenerators freg, since it's once set during first boot up & setup :P

This way it thinks everything is set ok and don't need to start recalibrate the clockgen at boot

I would highly recommend the Intel Skulltrail. I have one running 24/7 on a watercooled rig at 4Ghz using 2 QX9775's. I had it at 5ghz 8 cores on vapor but have since moved it to water. It is an extremely reliable platform. I even had my E5430's running perfectely at 3.2 Ghz with minimum voltage increase. It does not like high FSB's and personally I wouldn't even try anything higher than 410 FSB.

I have since gotten this Asus board hoping to get more performance out of my E5430's. Although I can run it at 3.2 Ghz , it will not prime more than a couple of hours. I then went down to 3 Ghz and also it will not prime for more than a couple of hours. I guess I will have to go to default speed now and maybe order a new D5400xs. Not being able to use LGA 775 HSF's is a real pain in the ass and had I known that I wouldn't even have dreamed of getting this Asus. The Noctua HSF for LGA 771 would cost more than the additional cost for spending a bit more and getting a D5400XS.

The only thing I like about the Asus is that it is a small motherboard and will fit in almost any case. That is unfortunately not true with the Skulltrail ... I had to shop very hard to be able to get something that would fit that motherboard.

    Hello,
For those of you that have the dreaded "black-screen" upon bootup after exiting the BIOS, well, there's a simple trick I discovered with the Z7S that works for me.

I have a HP P800 and Dell Perc 5i Raid controllers, with the HD4870X2 Gfx card, and sometimes it doesn't give the POST code after doing BIOS changes and restarting.

It would just spin the fans up, that's it, no video or POST.

While it's in that state, press the "Del" key, and keep it in for 5-15 seconds, board should reset BIOS defaults and POST.

Please let me know if this works for you guys with "BIOS" issues.

    Best regards,
    MrBean

It would just spin the fans up, that's it, no video or POST.

While it's in that state, press the "Del" key, and keep it in for 5-15 seconds, board should reset BIOS defaults and POST.

Please let me know if this works for you guys with "BIOS" issues.

    Best regards,

Used to do something similar with old K7 boards: Hold the delete or insert key from the time you press the power button until you get a POST/BIOS screen. Only ever worked when setting the FSB though and only works with PS2 keyboards.

All along the watchtower the watchmen watch the eternal return.
