well i got this board from a member (MIAHALLEN) here on XS that had a i7 965 to 5.4ghz on LN2 and i got a good deal on it.
I have not contacted MSI yet. I am talking to MIAHALLEN right now about what it should be default.

Power Supply-Silverstone DA1000
O.S.-Vista 64 bit/Windows 7 64 bit.
Whew. I went through some crap to get my system running closeto what I want.
I'm convinced that the B stock runs better with lower voltages than the A's. I have two 920's sitting here and the first one I attempted to overclock actually needed 1.4vcore in BIOS to be stable in Vista. The batch number is 3838A647. The processor I'm currently running and Priming NOW is 3837B217 and it's running with 1.35vcore in BIOS and 1.36 under load.
Oh, and the A processor did not like the 20 multi at all.
I'm trying to get this processor to the 4.0 mark with the lowest voltages possible and I think I'll be successful.
On a side note, I had a 3839Axxx up until yesterday (before I exchanged it) and it did not oc well at all. Anyway, I'll continue testing - let the saga continue!

Nice chips guys. Looks like i7 920's that can reach 4.0GHz ≤ 1.2V are considered excellent chips.
For my part I know nothing with any certainty, but the sight of the stars makes me dream.
.
.
What makes all the difference for me is enabling current override. When doing so I am able to use a much lower voltage. Under load voltage goes up instead of down like on my 790i ultra and every other board I have ever had.

I think that's right actually.. in the bios for the eclipse it says the default qpi will be anywhere from 1.0something to 1.22 dep on the cpu... I was betting on it being very close to if not on that upper value... anyways.. my eclipse has other issues so I am jumping to an ex58-ud5.

I'm not even sure how its possible one can reach 4.0ghz with less than 1.4v. Mine doesn't seem to be able to... maybe it is the preportions of your other clocks and voltages.
Could those of you with 920's hitting 4.0ghz with relatively low voltages please post up your exact settings and voltages as well as what board and RAM you are using. I am going to make a study of this.
3836A394 is horrible.Takes more than 1.45v for 4GHz to even boot. I have a 3836B043 on the way. I will post results!

The cpu tm has to do with throttling and is not related to current override.

would you crunch if you thought it would save her life?
maybe it will!
I know that but what I read from the article, saying that to enable current override in Asus boards, the CPU TM Function must be disabled. I forgot to bookmark the link, otherwise I can share it with you.

So Enable TM = Enable Current Overide = no limit ?
Because I got this one disabled by default.
