    EVA,
My number one hot button is Smart Fan
I D/L the manual, but there is no useful info. How does this board do CPU Smart Fan? In bios, or as a util under windows? Most importantly, is the smart fan profile fixed, or is it user defineable? Thanks.

eva2000, any chance you could take a few pictures of the motherboard with the two 4870X2 installed, like side views and top views?

Am getting this, just need to be sure that I can fit a sound card in there and a raid controller, water cooling the cards so they should have a smaller profile.

    Thank you if you can.

Checking out your other topic in the other forum, it doesn't look like you can run two GPU in x16 slots and crossfirex too, from the pictures am seeing of the lanes setup, it has to be x16 and x8?

I believe one of the pictures of the motherboard with the two 4870X2 installed is back on post #61.

I copied this from the online manual.

Both in the specifications and the image above it mentions 2-way CrossFire or 3-way SLI but there's no mention of 2-way SLI. Is this an oversight?

I've got a DFI LP UT X58 on order but because of a server error it won't ship until the 13th of January.

Ah thank you, was looking for that, but be handy if I could see a birds eye view of them.

Alright, so if you install two 4870x2 in the PCIE 1 and PCIE 4 slots and then add full block water cooling, this would cover up and make useless the PCIE2 and PCIE 3 slots right as well as the PCI slot?

    This info is Extremely valuble.
AC ??? only used DFI x58 no other boards to compare, but from what I'm seeing DFI x58 overclocks better than others.

DFI just relased 01/06 bios with change log

    1. Patch some board can not boot up as error code hang "B2",
    2. Update Intel CPU micro code,
    3. Fixed the S3 resume fail when insert Hard Disk to SATA 3/4 port,
    4. Patch for SetFSB utility can not run

So to give you an idea of where it's at, I haven't experienced #1, #3 or #4 issues. SetFSB 2.1.88 works fine on my board with 12/31 bios.

I'm a little more conservative voltage wise than the people who have though. My one complaint and problem I guess is this board appears to need to have a collation between vdmm and vtt as eva indicated. I'm sure I'll get better clocks once I get that down. This is still a tweakers board and will become easier once more info is available. Eva has been a great help though keep it coming.
all X58 boards will need to have a balanced relationship with vdimm and uncore/cpu vtt volts for properly stability just each board would handle it differently. Still regardless, memory dividers/stability/tweaking is important to get most of out system and bclk.

screenshots should be self explanatory http://i4memory.com/f80/dfi-lp-ut-x5...enshots-12949/ (3rd post, 1st screen photo). In windows you'd have more control via Smart Guardion options though to set fan speeds according to temps or fan speed.

I think 2 way SLI is a given if 3 way is supported, will try SLI later but I only have 2x 640MB 8800GTS and 2x 512MB 8800GT on hand

Thank you EVA, you really do a good job with your reviews, I love them.

Sady, this board will not work for my build, guess am going to have to use the Asus Revolution or BloodRage.

0106 beta renames the BCLK:RAM ratios and makes it clearer eg. 2:6, 2:8 etc...

I had the same thing happen to me, ordered the board on SAT got the call MON explaining that the server had freaked out and it would not ship until the 15th. I got lucky though and looked at newegg and they were replenished so I ordered it and canceled the motherboardpro order. I should have it by tomorrow or thur.

That I understand, but this balance seems to require me to overvolt my ram to acheive stabilty. I've used the same ram on another board and it didn't require the same voltage differences or as much voltage is it's taking the DFI. It's cool though, I wanted DFI or EVGA and I'm glad I got the DFI. I just want 4GHZ 200 X 20 (21 for this board) DDR3-2000 prime stable or easliy benchable @ low volts. I can bench 4GHz with 1.36vcore on core but have to run 211 X 18 and 2:8 divider. OCCT pass requires 1.4vcore. I was able to run 200 X 20 ddr3-2000 on gigabyte with no problem so its frustrating to know my ram and cpu can do it but some setting I'm missing on this board is holding me back. I'll give this new bios a spin maybe it will help.

are you using 12/31 bios as Gary from AT reported 12/31 with 10x multi 1333mhz dram frequency has a bug which requires more vdimm than prior bioses to run, and DFI is working on the fix. Try 12/18 bios or 01/06 and same 10x multi for mem

I've stayed witht the 12/18 since day one. Flashing 1/06 now will post back results in a few. It may be the corsair's DDR3-1866(samsung HCF0's) tri channel kits just aren't optimized on this board yet. I know you tested dual channel. Gary mentioned some nice kits comming out and that they will be receiving samples shortly. He got his retail board this weekend but is probably off to Vegas by now.

No go, voltages required to reach a 4.2GHz 3DMark benchable clock will not work with DFI. The Gigabyte has much more vdroop than the DFI too. I have benched this board @4.3Ghz with no problem though, I just didn't like the higher voltages it took. O well back to tweaking.

    Eva, Nemesis,

Under PC health status in BIOS, it shows "cpu fan fully on if CPUtemp>25C"...turn off if < 25C.,,etc.
Are these temperature values user defineable, or fixed as shown at 25C? If fixed, can user change them in windows using a DFI supplied utility?
Also, where can I find a manual of what the various bios settings do, and exactly what the windows guardian util does.
Finally, If I'm doing 2xSLI can I use slots 1 and 3, and would they be 16x and 8x in that config? I need to have max spacing between my two cards, at least
    three empty slots between them.

Those values are adjustable in the bios as well as programable in smartguardian.

    manual give me a minute

smartguardian monitors voltages, fans, and temps. It will allow you to set what temperature you want fans to kick in as well as how fast or so you want them to spin. Alarm is also available to be set if anything exceeds guidelines you set.

You can use the top two slots for sli, I just moved my card and it went through the new hardware detected etc then told me sli was availble. There will still be only the bottom two slots available with cards installed if your on stock cooling like me.

SLI is always 16x 8x 8x. 16x 16x is crossfire only. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

yeah, slot 11 and 3 only willl give full x16 each. If you put anything in slot 2 then it kicks to x16, x8, x8. otherwise slot 2 is always 0 when empty. I guess the third slot shares lanes with slot two?

I will try the 0106 BIOS to see if I can hit 4.0GHz. I'm stuck at 3.8GHz, but think I may have a dud CPU

    Back to more tweaking again.

    Nemesis,

When you say "much easier" do you mean that the DFI board takes more Vcore to achieve the same CPU clock than does the Gigabyte?

    Bios settings for 3DMark run

    vcore 1.4875v = 1.456v windows
    qpi 1.555v = 1.50v windows
    ioh 1.26v = don't remember
    dram 1.66v = don't remember

these same voltage settings don't work with DFI which is to be expexted on different boards. As eva has indicated, he needed a variance between vdimm and qpi/vtt for the system to be stable. I haven't found my varience yet and when I do its overvolting my ram.

I'm still learning the board and only eva has posted info on the board, so it's a bit early to judge it since we don't all that much just yet.

The Gigabyte boards our solid this time around I was told by a reliable source. But the DFI clocks better and I just have to figure some things out. Keep in mind my memory has only been out a couple of weeks and eva used some similar corsair but only two sticks and place more volts on the ram. My ram is rated 1.65v @ ddr3-1866(933Mhz) he was using 1.8v+ which to me is overvolting my ram.

Based on published photos, the seperate audio card has to go somewhere between PCIe x16 slots 1 and 4, i.e. the two most seperated PCIe slots where your two
gtx260 cards will be if you go SLI. But that places the audio card exactly where the rigid SLI bridge needs to be making it impossible to seat the bridge on the SLI card edge connectors. So apparently, you can have your choice of SLI, or, audio but not both. I don't see any other place for mounting the audio card. Is there a way to resolve this so you can have both audio and SLI?

Got my board today and so far I'm happy with it. Overclocking in comparison to my old DFI LT X38 is quite easy.

    This is for 24/7:

    Vcore under load is 1.248V.
    Intel Xeon E3-1275 v2, ASUS P8Z77 WS, Kingston KHX16C9K2/16X, Zotac GTX 570 AMP!, SB X-Fi Titanium, AVerTV Hybrid Speedy PCI-E, Intel SSD 330 120GB, WD1500HLFS, WD7501AALS, Pioneer BDC-S02BK, Pioneer BDR-207DBK, Corsair HX1000W, Lian Li PC-A79B (noise insulated), 6x Noctua NF-S12A FLX, Corsair H100i, Corsair K70, Razer DeathAdder, Eizo S2431 WH-BK, Teufel Motiv 5

If you use the first and last slot the sli bridge fits fine. If you use the first two slots then simply place the audio riser card below it. I'm not sure if its possible to use the audio card in a tri-sli configuration. The card can't be put above the first slot because it won't fit due to the hsf on the pwm's.
