Has anybody else here OCed a 920 using DDR3 1333 RAM? And if so, how did it go? I'm asking because I happen to have 1333 and I notice that almost all of you have 1600 instead.

Sure why not, just use the lower memory (x6, x8) multipliers. It'll overclock just fine.

Yeah, makes no difference in o/c. Neither extra b/w offers any improvement in everyday use, except for extreme benching

    Hi

yep , seems like high uncore = + bandwith

    I have same RAM (XMS3 1600) , with lower uncore you can get 1600Mhz 7-7-7-21 @ 1.64v (bios)

Nice chip u got there Mascaras
Mine needs 1.3v for 200X19 prime stable. Though, I might lower it down to 3.6GHz for 24/7 since the system is really too powerful anyway.

rge - ok, set the machine to low power: all c's on, speed at `12x133, ht off, idle calabration reset to all zeros, cpu fans on full blast, let it set for about 20 minutes.
Ambient room temp is approx 68F - 20C.
    Real temp reads out: 29-29-30-34.
So - reported temps are 9-9-10-14 over room temp.
So I should enter (-) #'s into the idle calabration set up - but how much?
Should I go the full - 9-9-10-14? I was going to set -5 for all 4 calibration values.

Your reported temps if accurate SHOULD be 9-10C over ambient as I stated previously.

Looks like your reported temps are correct, so again you do not need to calibrate anything. Your 4th core is either reading few C high or it simply has small load on it, either way I would not calibrate anything...your temps appear accurate.

On water, I idle 7-8C above ambient, you on air 9-10C over ambient.

You seem to want to calibrate your temps to near ambient. There is a gradient of about 5C from core to IHS, and another 2-3C from IHS to ambient. So you cant be lower than ~7-8C over ambient using air or water. You can with inaccurate sensors, but not with more accurate ones as the i7's seem to have.

    Question guys.

My CPU ambient temperature is now at default settings 27ºc, but im getting readings of 42/37/42/38 < per core. Should I calibrate it? Seem to be off on cores 1 and 3, but 2 and 4 are about right with a 10ºc difference. What do you guys think?

My eVGA X58 has this strange idea that QPI 150 means QPI 14. Fourteen, no missing zero - and it then tries (and of course, hangs) at 280 mhz. Stupid piece of crap.

Chicken Patty - I assume you are using real temp?
Did you set cpu to lowest power consumption level with max cooling?
How long did you leave the machine run before you took your readings?
What was the room ambient temp?

naw I have not done that, I was actually just reading back through a few posts and saw that myself, going to do that in the morning and i'll post back. Thanks.

    I have one questions.
What memory multi are works on i920?
    Only x6 and x8?

i've used 6, 8, and 10, but when I set my ram to 1333 (x10) when i boot in windows its running at x8.

    Seems that x10 not worked.
And what QPI/DRAM voltage is needed for 1600Mhz RAM? 1.35 would be enought?

running memory multis higher than 8x depends on if you motherboard manufacturer has unlocked them for the 920 and 940.

best choice for money/value is i940, is overclockable to 3.7 - 3,8GHz on AIR ... with best mobo
what do u refer to write for i920, is stable @3.6GHz with base clock @170MHz ??
because after reading most of topics, the i920 is stable with x20 multiple and not really stable with a x21 (TurboMode) isnt it ?

    So 20x170= 3.4GHz

Isn't it possible to be stable @ 20x200MHz with good AirCooling and good cpu coller ? to run at 4GHz on P6T Deluxe for example ?

It's possible but i doubt any aircooler can handle the heat.
3.6-3.8 Ghz is possible with aircooling and voltages between 1.25-1.3V, everthing above 1.3V will be hard for aircooling 24/7 and @ 1,45V+ it even gets hard for a decent WC setup.

True enough. I'm always wondering how those with a TRUE can get STABLE systems with relatively high voltages and speeds. I doubt that such rigs are truly 24/7 stable under a signifcant load.

So you know how lucky you are, my dimms will not even do cas 8 @ anything up to 1.8v. Nor will they go over 1660mhz stable, past 1680mhz i can't boot.

yeah, i also doubt that.. well mybe they are stable but if the cpu is really loaded it beginns to throttle.

Im on 3.6Ghz with ~70-72°C on the cores with 1.216V, and im running WCG on all 8 threads.

Maybe i could go higher, but i have to factor in summer, when the temp air raises to 30°C or more.

Right now with a TRUE I'm running my i7 920 w/ HT @ 3.8GHz @ 1.344V, in Prime 95 large FFTs I get ~78C maximum temp. The setup was stable in Blend for ~15 hours. 4GHz is a no go with 1.36 volts though and that hits 80C, a little too much IMO.

I think my i7 920 kind of sucks (I never get good CPUs) but I've got 3.8GHz stable so that is good enough.

I'm wondering what kind of uncore clocks everyone is hitting and at what volts? Right now I've got uncore @ 3047MHz w/ 1.325V and it is stable.
