I just dont think the Hydra chip is the golden saviour that some wants it to be. Also im not saying it wont work either. But it sure wont be universal.
Hydra would work abit better if it was backed by AMD/nVidia. But I also doubt that some people from Lucid suddenly fixed what nVidia/3DFx/ATI/AMD have been working on for over 10 years. because the idea behind the Hydra chip is very simple. But the implementation is extremely complex. Also firmware update sounds easy. How much memory and flash will the Lucid chip have? 250-500MB?
Again, this technology fits PERFECTLY in a console. Just not in a PC.
