This is very (no wait, extremely) strange as X.M.P. sets the exact same settings as what I have entered in manually. It must not be doing the exact same thing then...it must be doing something else. I will keep you posted on the results as time goes a bit too. I am still running tests.

Now, after I did this I changed my OC settings to 20x200MHz flat, 1600MHz DRAM with 8-8-8-24-2T timings (default), 1.424V core voltage (high voltage chip unfortunately), but get this, I was able to lower the VTT to 1.3V (I can go lower, down to 1.25V - 1.27V but I do not want to), and DRAM voltage down to 1.5V (lowest available setting)

So far 30mins stable with 4-cores/8-threads at 100% constant load...

Oh and temps, peak out at 75C on all cores on air. WTF? Must be the lower VTT (QPI/DRAM).

Something is majorly screwed up on this board. The more I use it the more confused I am. I'm thinking that it has major issues with DRAM now...not sure any more...maybe it is the low voltage DRAM parts that are problematic? It is the first time around these are being done...hmm

I've also noticed that all of you guys have the 90-MIB6L0-G0EAY00Z part. Asus sent me this part as an RMA as well and I found it way worse than my current board. However, my part is (get this) newer it seems and it is 90-MIB6L0-G0EAY10Z. I'm thinking maybe to stop my 2nd RMA now. I don't think there is a point. Maybe everything is working as intended and memory is the culprit for it all? I almost want to go pick up some Mushkin sticks (I never had problems with Mushkin in any board for 12 years) and see whether that changes anything...

Edit: Test crashed about 50 minutes in. I upped the voltage now to 1.432V on the core. This should be sufficient for 24/7.

Just messed up. That's all I have to say. I think I will get Asus to pick up the board now and tell them to send me an RMA only if they have a part number different than the two we listed here. Otherwise, I do not care to replace it now. Maybe when it's close to 1 year from now and all of the initial batches have gone through the system.
This is my Part No- 90-MIB6L0-G0EAY00Z, only one here with this type i think! Found out that i need this to get my cpu 100% stable on 4 cores with HT on, take a look at QPI/DRAM volts. If i lower it i get BSOD

Reading this thread, I realize I've been pretty lucky with my chip/board so far.

I do experience the slow boot, but no cold boot or other problems.

With 0804 bios, 20 x 200 (with HT) is completely stable:

Using turbo mode I'm Linpack stable up to 4.3 ghz, again with HT:

    Chip is 3838B096.

hmm.. Just got my new Core i7 system finished today! But it hangs upon booting? I've got a Core i7 920 and Rampage II Extreme and it starts to boot but just hangs on the part where it says: "Press DEL to run setup, Press TAB to display BIOS POST message" and nothing more seems to happen?

    Anyone got some smart solution?

It sounds like you have the cold boot issue that affects users of Corsair Ram.

    Are you using Corsair Ram?

Yeah, I've got Corsair RAM.. But I wouldn't call this "cold boot", it's not like the cold boot I had with my P5N32-E SLi and Striker Extreme, it just takes forever! After like 3-4min it suddenly start to happen something, the Republic of Gamers logo pops and then it ask me to hit F1 to enter BIOS or F2 to load default BIOS settings, but no matter what I hit on my keyboard nothing happens? I hook up a PS/2 keyboard and this time the computer seems to be responding when I hit a key, but instead of entering the BIOS when I hit "F1" it just keeps on booting? But as I've got no OS installed it stalls when it tries to boot from the hard drive!

Funny thing is also when I remove ALL USB-devices (webcam, mouse and keyboard) the booting doesn't hang at all, the Republic of Gamers logo pops right away and the computer keeps on booting, but as I've got no OS installed it will stall..

But I can't seem to find anyway to get into the BIOS? Therefore I can't even update the bloody BIOS?!

Ouch, this is tough. Yeah, my system is not that bad. Maybe for you an RMA would not be a bad idea, just to see if a different board improves the problem. It's the chips though too. Look at some people, they are getting 4.2GHz on 1.4V or less, and I need 1.45V to have a stable system at 4GHz.

He has a B revision chip. Bs seem to clock higher than As and with lower volts. Is your chip A or B?

I tightened the DRAM timings as well now. Had to up the DRAM voltage to 1.57V (QPI/DRAM is still set to 1.3V). The new timings are 7-8-7-20-1T.

While doing this I noticed that if I tighten the timings too much (say 7-7-7-20-1T) and/or the voltage is too low for the given timings I lose memory channels at POST. I can recreate the channel loss at will simply by lowering DRAM voltage to 1.52V while keeping the above timings and bring it back by upping the voltage to 1.55V. I can also remove channels by tightening the timings too much for the given voltage, and gain them back by loosening the timings. First time I have a determinate way of controlling channel gain/loss.

I received my RIIE today. I was originally was testing the Gigabyte X58-UD5. It is a wonderful board, but cannot run 12gb at 1600mhz.

My batch number is 90-MIB6L0-G0AAY00Z. I updated to Bios 805 first. I then installed Vista 64, and rebooted after installing chipset drivers and the like, I have not run into the cold boot issue yet. I am using 12gb of Corsair Dominator ram. I am also using a TT 1200W PSU if that means anything.

I also have a question. When I power down my computer, the ROG symbol on the north bridge blinks. Is that normal?

PS. Is this still considered a ATX motherboard? It seems much bigger than my Gigabyte.

Nemon, is your batch number really 90-MIBL60-G0AAY00Z?

    jason,

Your info about the 0805 bios on the first page is somewhat wrong. At asus it reads:

    BIOS 0805

    1. Fix the system would detect a certain keyboard for an extended period of time.

    2. Patch PC might sometimes halt during it's booting up.

fixed it. I'll post my bios settings here in a bit. I have to go back and figure them out again.

Jason, someone here said you had a revision b 920. How do you know what revision you have? Is there a certain revision I should look for? If so, I will try to buy this revision if possible!!

I have a revision B 920. I haven't found my max OC yet but I may not as I am only running air. So far I have managed to hit 4.0 ghz (4.2 ghz on one core if you count Turbo) with HT on as well. Still tweaking though to get volts down. I left vcore on auto to see what the board would give me for the 4.0 ghz and it was 1.42 vcore. I have a good feeling that I'll need less than that...

So after getting 4.0GHz completly stable with 20x200MHz at (BIOS settings) 1.45000V core voltage, 1.30000V QPI/DRAM, 1.57731V DRAM with 7-8-7-20-1T timings at 1603MHz with the side of the case open the temps were maxing out at 78C/77C (cores 1/2, and cores 3/4) I decided to close the side of my case. After I did that, I re-ran the stress tests only to crash about 7-10 minutes into every test. I checked the core temps and they were basically the same (+1C at most) so what in the hell is heating up here and causing the system to crash? The northbridge?

Atm, I took off the side panel of the case and I am already stable for 30 minutes, temps are holding steady. I know I am not going to crash now as it is the same setup as yesterday which was rock solid.

Any ideas what would be heating up on the R2E to cause the crash? It's definitely not the core, at least not according to RealTemp.

Have u watched the current for rams..? i watched them in bios and they are sure NOT stable.., fluctuations from 1.54-1.67 when set to 1.6..,
One more thing.., if I set 200x20 (turbo on) 1.5 v-core in bios and let rams run auto..,it hits 1.85 in bios!!!

Hmm, I was checking fluctuations before using a DMM and did not notice much fluctuations. Usually a 0.03V overvolt or undervolt depending on the component. Pretty stable overall. I tend to avoid auto settings after noticing that they tend to set very generous (read dangerous) voltages quite often, like your DRAM example.

I really think it is the chipset overheating and crashing. I closed the case after about 45 minutes but I upped the intake fan speed to medium and the test kept on running. I stopped it after about 1h and 35 minutes (50 minutes with case closed).

I need to monitor chipset temps more closely...
