I was using F4j for the X58-Extreme and that was solid for me. I tried the F4m and when I run everest, I keep locking up when it goes to read the L3 cache write part.
I've upped the voltages and same thing.
Does anyone have any similar experiences?
I'm going to re-install everest again and if it keeps happening, then I'll be forced to go back to F4J

I think i might have been over-volting my memory before (1.75v), when i was trying 10x multi with 20x uncore, and it couldn't boot.
Now 1650mhz booted + priming with 1.68v.
I don't think this will turn out to be useful after all though, i just checked my memory bandwidth at this setting and i'm down to 13500 read!!! This is from 16000+ on the higher bclock with 8x memory multi. Obviously the lower uncore frequency is hampering my IMC's performance.
So anyone trying to run lower bclock with 10x memory 20x uncore, who can't get it to work, don't bother it's not worth trying![]()

Not specifically, but they aren't getting that hot, not as hot as my previous kit for sure. They're in a pretty cool section of TJ07 with those 120mm intake/outtake fans in the corner.
The dimms will do 1660mhz at 1.68v, but 1670mhz is failing in under a minute even at up to 1.8v. I might just have some crap memory, but i'm sure they're the same samsung ic's i had before and they should be going higher than this. The worst thing is i don't even know how much voltage is really being put into memory, what program will tell you this?
I miss Aegis Panel on my blackops![]()

Easytune will give you a read iirc. I've never used the Aegis Panel...Black Ops boards were none-existent in Canada when they released, to my dismay
But I do miss my Smart Guardian
Like I was saying; speed binning for memory took a huge turn for the worse as far as getting those golden sticks so if you're going to chase the high clocks, just go right to highest end that you can afford.
BobbyLite has some pretty interesting memory speed comparo's in his link, check that out before you put too much faith in memory speed. From what we've seen it has almost zero impact on benchmark performance, going from 1200 to 1600.

- What are the differences between UD5 and Extreme? It's just the cooling?
- Is Extreme just for watercooling, or can I just use it with the heatpipes? Is the waterblock removable or exchangeable, like BloodRage?
And finally, are this boards better than the ASUS X58?
Thanks!![]()
That's major suckage, it's a great feature once you have your final overclock down. No need to be pumping 1.45v 4.3ghz when browsing youtube!
If i knew about this, i probably would have went with the Bloodrage.. I guess i'll have to read up on this 'pencil mod'
Yeah i always knew i would probably end up below 1600mhz and just tuning timings, would have been nice to have another decent overclockable memory though. I've not given up yet. I can't find a review for my kit but i found some for other 1.65v kits, and the review i was reading (legit reviews kingston ram) they were scared to push past 1.65v so resorted to raising QPI instead. I'll try that.
Found the voltage reporting tab in Easytune, though it doesn't show QPI voltage unfortunately. Seems the board is undervolting my ram by .2v, still doesn't explain why i'm having trouble though
No one knows and the people that do i believe are not allowed to sayOthers will tell you one way or the other so there's little way to really know for sure
No you don't have to watercool the NB on the extreme - i tried and it leaked. I'm not sure if you can take the thing off without taking the whole cooling mount off with it, and i have no idea about the Asus.

I take it we can add Foxconn to the short list of mobos that can work EIST with any Vcore then?
So it's Abit (which is no more.. *cry*) DFI and Foxconn yet..
Good thing my personal X58 mobo is gonna be the DFI
Not that I ever idle of course (runninmg WCG 24/7). Just on principle![]()
Well the blackops sure handled it no sweat. Been a few months but if i remember correctly it dropped to 1.35v for me, along with multi to 6x (OC was 9.5x and 1.45v) It got crazy BSOD on your ass if you tried to use sleep mode thoughVdroop on that board was really not bad at all, it was pretty angelic actually compared to this. I guess you don't appreciate that stuff til you have a board that's not so good.. The big kicker is that i decided against the Bloodrage based pretty much on the pci-e slot placement, which wouldn't allow triple-SLI. Now i've decided to go for 2 GTX295's, so it would have been fine >.>
I didn't know this EIST with manual vcore was a big issue, only 2 companies have boards that can do this?!
P.s just done a fresh install of vista after trying to run 165bclk QPI 24x Uncore 24x corrupted one of the disks in my raid 0 array.
I thought these were supposed to max out @ 4ghz, not mess up your data, any thoughts?

As far as I can tell Extreme is same as UD5 except the extreme cooling. If that is case, I bought the Extreme and converted it into the UD5. But that being said, I really like the board.
You can remove the waterblock (4 screws, so should be able to replace as well) and not install the big ugly pcie slot cooling accessory (which decreased nb temps only 1-2c). My prime 12hr NB temps were 53-55C max (software) 46-47C (IR gun to bottom cooling block). I took the WB (empty) and the pcie cooling off and just put a spot fan on bare nb cooler (in pic I turned spotfan down out of way, usually is directly on top of NB sink), now max load NB temps 47C (software), and 40C IR gun to cooling block. Not that lowering temps would or did do anything for ocing anyways...just had the fans.

Hi
hi have this board whith F3 bios a 920 , dual channel corsair 1600, 4870 X2 and a sata DVD
i Can't install windows vista!
when he instalation come to expands file de software says can't copy necessary files!
no board errors no anything?
plase can help me? thanks
Pi can't upodate bios with USB stick... Q-flash not chaek USB ports...
Help plase
Cool thing is, you can add your own waterblock on the NB (threads FTW) and not have to mod anything else. Watercool NSB-1 fits perfectly, for example
Can't do that on the UD5. So I'd say UD5 for air, Extreme for water...
