ok fine lol. I'll upload when I get home from work; didn't want to be so horribly offtopic, but lots of people want it it seems. It is massive in size as well, I think it was like 2600x1625 or something along those lines. It is all the victoria's secret models together.

    Enjoy 3600*2273:

Thanks for the great benchies Napalm. Very Interesting stuff!

I have an adaptec 3405 raid controller and was thinking of getting the 5805, but after your benchies I am thinking of waiting. Your write speeds on the Areca card are out of this world.

If you ever have some time, could you try some real world tests on each of the cards ( ie. 3GB file copy, or ISO creation, or maybe some Game loading times)? Im wondering if all those numbers really mean anything when doing any real work?

Since we're using hdtach, I benched both arrays simultaneously.
    2x 60GB SSDs and 2x raptor 150 both in raid 0.
The OS is running on the SSDs with a few parts moved to the raptors.

would you mind posting hdtach of individual array ?

quite a bit of cpu utilization..

ive dealt mostly with 4x to 4x arrays.. on iop332/3..

do 4x to 4x and youll see how it chockes..

you shouldve gone for the 5405 at least.. dualcore 1.2ghz more ideal for multi arrays.. i know my 5805 512MB would go nice ^..

when i get my other 2x px ssd.. ill do 2x 3x px arrays on the 5805 and see if it gets the best of the it..

For $200usd the 2405 is pretty good bang for the buck.

    I have a question though;

I've been using the Areca 1231ML for months now with just 2 Mtron 32GB SSDs on it, and its been fine as an OS disk since.
However I've recentry purchased a pair of velociraptors thinking I can put them onto the Areca, and use them as seconday drives.

Having now installed it and configured the Areca so that the raptors are in RAID0, I cannot find the array in windows, only the origional Mtron SSD array? Can the Areca only be configured to show one array in windows?

I'm thinking of buying the Adaptec 5805 so I can have all 4 drives sharing a hardware RAID controller, with 2 separate RAID0 arrays... is that possible on the 5805? Or it could be done on the Areca just that I suck at configuring it to show?
name the volume sets differently and windows will pick up the arrays

Thanks for taking the time creating 2 arrays on the Areca!

Did you create the RAID in Windows using the RAID utility or the one before Windows loads? I have set the second array with a different name, using the utility that loads before windows. The first option quick create array don't work as it says I've already have an array, and only able to create using the second option, where you don't get to choose what stripe size etc to set...

After setting them up, loading windows and looking for the new array in Computer/Disk Management, it's still missing and only show the origional array..

Just wondering how you set the 2 arrays up and if Window actually sees them? Thanks!

    create the two arrays individually:

connect 2x.. quick create.. shut down.. disconnect from controller..

connect the other 2x.. quick create.. modify volume set like i have modified in the pic^.. shut down..

reconnect the first array.. once disk management starts it initializes both arrays

so in your case.. since you already had an array.. disconnect the 2x mtron array.. create the 2nd 2x raptor array.. modify the volume set.. reconnect the 2x mtron array.. disk management should pick up the 2x raptor and initialize/etc..

    So Napalm,

what's the best affordable controller for 2-4 standard MLC drives in your opinion? Talking about 150/100 MB/s drives made by Compustocx (Samsung-based, very similar to OCZ core). Performance and fast initialization are important (the Adaptecs are too slow.. I know Highpoint is fast, what about Areca?)

if affordable.. one and only arc1231.. however i dont know how the other areca controllers like 1222 and 1680 handle ssds

arc1231 no slower than arc1210 @ initialization.. just as fast

    if 4x slc/mlc even ~200MB/s + arc1231 = perfect 4x raid combo

    if 2x slc/mlc even ~200MB/s + acr1210 = great 2x raid combo

So how fast is it exactly? Talk in seconds please

Results on the ICH10R are encouraging, with 2 128GB drives I get 260MB/s average read.

    @ Napalm

    Try IOmeter with Workstation-Pattern, please.
Donīt run this bench less than 30 minutes.

come on man iometer is not gonna show how fast these ssds are..

i can tell you guys that @ dvd shrink/nero the arc1231 and these 4x ssd are just as fast as 2x arc1210/8x adfd raptor

    2x controllers+these 4x ssd are faster than 2x controllers+8x adfd raptor

    1:2 read/write

Sorry, but IOmeter is a professional tool by Intel for testing natural environments. The workstation-pattern show you a typical work-session and the typical write-debility by MLC-SSDs.

HDtune, HDtune etc. show only a seq. datarate for big files.

The Benches are dissatisfying without IOmeter-Benches
so there is no commendation for the right controller or SSD

iometers so far from professional it aint funny

iometer does not bench neither ssd nor hdd correctly/properly

if you guys think/believe it does.. youre badly fooling yourselves

i certainly dont take any bench wholeheartedly

well nothing would satisfy everyone.. not appreciated.. "false benches".. you guys dont even believe what said regarding real world apps: dvd shrink/nero.. which are "natural environment" to me.. ive tested the io thread @ dvd shrink and nero just like i did @ 8x raptor.. if real world apps are not satisfactory enough.. what more you want from me.. what would be satisfactory..

few appreciate/believe/satisfied.. gimmie a good freaking reason i should waste hours and hours on iometer..

if only iometer is satisfactory to you guys.. why dont you guys acquire controllers and storage to bench iometer yourselves..

so please no more benches.. if you guys want me to test real world apps.. especially ones that have built in io thread which is not influenced by any other factor such as cpu/ram/etc.. im more than glad to apply
