macci's had a makeover.![]()
But... !
That's done on purpose yes, by the same brand.
Now lets compare the Foxconn vs DFI or Asus. Foxconn was way overpriced while DFI and Asus were at least the same quality and offered the same features. I mean, DFI is in 99.99% already a top end board, what extra features should we look at? 299 more USB 2.0 ports? Big ass heat sinks with fancy colours having no purpose? The most advanced feature you want to have is a well laid-out BIOS, SB750 and thus ACC. Although Ive to admit the DFI would have been more fun if it had more phases though. But then take Asus instead, 20Euro more and also gives everything.
At some point there's a difference between advanced features and extra's and as you said, gimmicks. Extra gimmick does not mean it's a top end board, you just pay for it.
Calm might have been right already, but couldnt the +2 also mean that it was for the NB?

Crunching for Comrades and the Common good of the People.
The asus top end mobo is more expensive then then the gigabyte topend mobo... does that mean asus is more topend then gigabyte?
There are just price segements just like with cpu.
Amd has right now no enthusiast market that would pay for such board, hence the slim choice of boards.
There are 4 boards with 790FX/SB750 combo... those are all midrange boards, thers no point in releasing a topend board that noone whats to buy due to price.
Wait when phenom 2 gets good reviews and 200€+ am3 boards pop up everywhere.![]()

You were not supposed to see this.
gigabyte boards werent exactly first choice in previous AMD "good" days
it's good to see them improving a lot and being first choice for such an important demo
AMD didnt even use their own board eek
from Josh's report on i4memory

Phenom II processor
GIGABYTE GA-MA790GP-DS4H motherboard
Radeon HD4870X2 graphics
OCZ Reaper memory
more competition on all fronts is good news for consumers& manufacturers alike
I wouldn't be too worried if they're cherrypicked anyway..
65nm was a dog @ release, but even before G2 stepping they clocked heaps better with newer batches
well there is always a bunch of user binned retail cherries on XS so benchers will eventually bin enough CPUs to find the right one
if this was done with no "tricks" Francois was alluding to then its fair game and we should see same or better results at XS
otherwise AMD's gonna have to do some serious explaining
I just wonder if this was HTT or multiplier

I was surprised when I first heard of this, but like Dino and many other overclockers who were raised on AMD have said, I am very hopeful that this is all legitimate and what every enthusiast can expect from their Phenom II's. I'll certainly be building my next system with a Phenom II, and I cannot wait to start tweaking again.![]()
Formerly XIP, now just P.
hmm i dunno
neither k8 nor k10 clocked well at release
ppl couldn't get k10 to 3ghz at launch like the 3ghz demo and cried foul, but now 3g is pretty easy on k10
so that a 6.3g post is possible at this stage is just insanely good news, i can barely believe it.
previous amd overclocking world record.... well www.ripping.org![]()

I seriously doubt AMD did any "tricks" here ... They are trying to re-win the attention of the enthusiast community, and they way to do that is exactly what they are doing ... offering up something special at lower prices.
Phenom II is going to be much bigger success than Phenom was...

Yes, that is why I posted what I did in my last post. If you keep crying wolf enough times, people are gonna start not believing you, and it backfires. That's just a rule of buisness..."don't promise things unless you can deliver with 100% certainty". They are months from release still. These "Deneb clocks to 4GHz on air" is really gonna hurt them if it ends up not materializing. It's all over the Internet now, and people are gonna expect it.
I have a freind that is selling off his Phenom rig because he is thoroughly disgusted with it. He said...and this is his exact words "They hyped this thing up and I bought into it, but not again." That is the loss of a customer. It's just one example.
