I'll believe in the Gtx 290 when it's listed on newegg.

Seems like vaporware til then. What happened to Oct 22nd?

Is there something about these pictures that should stand out? Most of my card is covered with a waterblock, but what I can see on the GTX280 looks identical to those pictures.

    That doesn't necessarily mean that it's not a GTX290.

That could be it, we can't really tell what's under the IHS of GPU chip. It's just, the complexity of a 512 bit board and PWM design for a 200w class GPU on it, dang, nVidia margin must be running quite razor thin -especially in GTX 260 variant- fact that the huge & relatively low yielding GT200 chip isn't much of help at all.

If the picture looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, I require a little more than some added text saying "Swan". Which is basically what this is.

Lame hit grab, by any standards.

Probably a GTX 280 with a few more stream processors, and will be receiving the name GTX 380+.

It's not a die, it's a heat spreader. If you can't read the text stamped on it it might as well be a 260.

Guys this really needs to die. I'm being calm here, but c'mon now. How many times have we heard this? It started over at that site that shall remain nameless...you know the one, and then evolved into an urban myth.

Could there potentially be a GTX290? Yes. We don't know that though, and they might not be planning anything. There are a huge number of people here that got their hopes up in October over a thread similar to this that spouted off an October release date. It didn't happen.

nVidia has always been secretive. They don't give out info, and they plug leaks. We will get a new card in due time, and there will be early reviews, but please wait until we do. I'm being real nice here, and am saying this with a nice soft tone.

I'm pretty sure that is a GTX280 in the pic. I can't be certain though. I really wish these places that do this stuff would cut it out. Yeah sometimes *some* leaks are good, but it's gotten out of hand and is causing people problems. It could be causing nVidia problems if they are getting e-mails asking why the GTX290 isn't out yet.

If you're waiting grab yourself a 280 with a step up plan, and maybe you'll luck out and we'll see something you can step up to before the step up runs out. If not, you'll still have a really nice card.

i've heard that they are having problems with the new fab process.. And that they were not getting any performance gaines.. but who knows.... i also read that the Dual CPU Solutions are not working out very well.. Thermodynamic problems is what the article said. Nvidia's delaying everything until Q1 2009.. in the article it said nvidias dual GPU 280's were simply running way too hot for air cooling and it would not be possible with the current schematics unless they were "Water" Cooling only cards. as you know november 17th was supposed to be the release date for the 270 and 290. If i can find the article i was reading the other day i will post a URL to it.

thats because you cant actually see the die. its covered by a monstrous IHS. but you are right in saying that it does look exactly like the GTX280, because the IHS is probably the same

    Nice try.

If people stop linking silly websites that spew out any kind of BS they can come up with the IT world would be way better.
