Just pulled the trigger on a pair of coils from PTS. After seeing the various life-forms that came out of my radiators today, I'd say it's money well spent. There's still crap coming out of them!
    Main Rig:
    Q6600 G0 @3.7ghz 1.425V - EVGA 680i A1 (Vdroop mod) - 4GB G.Skill HZ DDR2-800 @1000mhz - EVGA 8800 Ultra SLI @710/2460mhz - 2x WD Raptor X 150GB RAID 0 - 2x WD 500GB RAID 1 - 1x WD 320GB eSATA External - SB X-Fi XtremeMusic - Enermax Galaxy DXX 1000W - NEC 16X DVD±RW DL - 2x Dell 2405FPW (Dual monitor w/ SLI!) - ATI Radeon X300 - MM U2-UFO Horizon
    Dual loops:
    D-Tek FuZion (Bowed) - PA120.3 - Dual DDC2+ w/ PT tops - Swiftech MicroRes - Distilled w/ Red UV dye
    2x EK FC8800 - DD680i NB - PA120.2 - Dual DDC2+ w/ PT tops - Swiftech MicroRes - G11 UV
Temps: 28-29degC idle / 46-48degC load with MX-2! Pics of my build!

Umm that's because it's not just silver instead is silver lined with various ligands to keep it there and doped with other anti microbial compounds so it's about 12000000 times harder to make

FYI, some biotech companies are selling silver plates hidden in a plastic cartridge as some kinda "secret" anti microbial wonder for biologists to put into waterbaths and incubators so nothing grows where they're not supposed to

    Copper 'Kills Hospital Superbug'

Scientists say that making door handles, taps and light switches from copper could stop the spread of the modern-day killer.

Bacteria is unable to survive on the metal, so copper surfaces could succeed where other infection controls have not been as successful.

The healing power of copper has been used by Egyptians, Greeks and Romans to treat wounds but has only been considered as a modern solution since a study at Birmingham's Selly Oak Hospital.

Microbiologist Tom Elliott said: "It is what I would call an intelligent metal. The copper is quietly working away in the background, killing organisms all the time."

I wouldn't necesasrily claim it as MY idea exclusively since it was born from a brainstorm thread, but it definitely is a good idea.

Copper by itself is not a strong antimicrobial element. It does kill certain strains of bacteria and algae, but many others have evolved to be resistant to pure copper. The real strength of copper as an antimicrobial compound is revealed in copper based compounds such as copper sulfate, which is the active ingredient in many biocides.

Silver on the other hand is a very strong biocide when used in its pure form.

If you want to get a REALLY powerful defense against algae and bacteria growing in your loop, get water that has been distilled AND deionized. Take care not to let the deionized water come in contact with any metals, except silver. When it comes in contact with the silver, it will leech silver ions to restore its own missing ions. Once you've mixed it up a bit with silver, you can put it in your loop, along with the killcoils or other solid forms of silver, and you are set against anything organic growing in your loop.

Now, I am not a chemist, but I am pretty sure this is accurate enough. If it is not, anybody feel free to correct me.

One stupid question. If one takes distilled and deionized water and add silver then drink it, will the person die from antibiological properties of silver?

Sounds like a good test for YOU to try out. Use Silver, PT Nuke, Fesser one, Hydrx, and a few others. Drink one see how sick you get, recover, drink another. Don't forget to take lots of pics and make a perty graph.

IIRC DI water was not healthy to drink as it can leach minerals from the body.
