Nobody is getting 80C load temps on a Core i7 at stock settings. If you overclock it like crazy on a crappy cooler, sure you will see 80C temps. You would on a Phenom if you OC'd it like crazy as well.eh I hear ya loud and clear. I am so glad.... SO glad I did not go i7. Everything I feared about it looks to be turning true. Several people who have bought retail 920s from unreleased stock are having issues past 3.8.
In addition *EVERYONE* is getting 80C*+ Load temps (some over 100c* on water cooling) which is FRIGHTENING to say the least.
Core i7 overclocking is still an unknown at this point (not enough data) but 3.6-3.8 looks to be possible on the chips, including the i7 920. If you do things that actually take advantage of the CPU, like rendering or encoding, then in that kind of situation it is going to be like having a 5GHz C2Q.
Deneb will likely consume less power than Nehalem, but performance will be lower; perf/watt is an unknown right now but I am guessing that Nehalem will be the victor there. In terms of oc'ing..... I highly doubt Deneb is going to get higher than 3.8 either.
I agree though, it is time to see what Deneb is all about. Can't wait till the analyst meeting this week, hopefully we will learn a lot from that.
