Vanderpool is Intel's VM acceleration technology...supposed to make Virtual Machines like VMWare faster, better, etc, etc. Must be a P5Q Deluxe only option...though I have an old P5W64-WS that has it as well.

thats weird I have the deluxe and its not there in 1406, I dont use VM, but I noticed BRSG has virtualisation disabled too

No biggie though. I've been running 1406 for a few days now and I have to say its fantastic to be running with no issues.
I'm going to install XP on my other drive just for kicks

Oh, I see...it's a name change...I'm not looking at my BIOS, but it's probably called 'Intel Virtualization Tech' in the BIOS...just another name for it.

I noticed the other day that that every time the system BSODs upon boot, I could hear the external HDD was active. So I tried disconnecting it the next day, and voilá! No BSOD. So I've come to the conclusion that Windows BSODs when the external HDD (WD MyBook2 1TB) turns itself on, which happens when Windows is half-way done loading. When the system reboots the HDD is already running, so Windows loads fine. I tried enabling boot ROM for the Marvell IDE/eSATA controler in the bios, but that just makes the system hang after POST, and will not boot until I've restarted the sytem around 3 times.

So yeah, after all this time spent trying to figure out what it was, it was the damn eSATA controller. I guess my only option is to buy a PCI controller and use that instead? I'm a bit disappointed that this Marvell controller is that bad, because I hoped it was better than the Jmicron controller that was on my previous motherboard (but alteast that didn't make my system BSOD!).
Did you install the Marvell driver? eSATA will work without it, but worth a try if it's not installed yet.

Re: using a pci controller.... I spent several weeks troubleshooting BSODs using a Promise SATA300 TX4 and a couple Highpoint controllers. Looks like the Promise SATA300 may have some sort of driver or irq conflict with the onboard controllers. Ended up using a Highpoint 2300 (pcie x1) and Highpoint 2310 (pcie x4)... so far no BSODs.

    Question for Leeghoofd

Leeghoofd, what is your opinion on the SB and PCIE SATA voltages? Better to bump them up a notch above default? I just reset mine from AUTO to 1.2 and 1.6....

Mine (SB and PCIE voltage) are on AUTO on all the boards , I have not even the fainstest clue where I should do the readout... I have no idea where Carepolice and co get that info that it's serious overvolting... would be interesting to see where they got this info from
Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

Remark : They call me Pro Asus Saaya yupp, I agree

No, I've not tried that. I'm using the IDE port for my DVDRW though, will that still work as well? Although I suspect it doesn't have anything to do with drivers as it BSOD's before Windows is loaded. But thanks for the suggestion, I'll try uninstalling the drivers and see what happens.

I don't want to fork out big money for an expensive controller either. I'll only be using it for my single external HDD... any recommandations?

Those look eerily similar to some one elses voltages,, oh yeah mine.. I have seen a few people using similar settings to mine lately.

Try the above settings and look for stability, remember more volts is not always better !!

Your CPU Pll is totally whack so is ya FSB term voltage... NB voltage is overkill

Just start with those settings and report back what it does... first look for CPU stability then tweak the ram...
Thanks for the reply, I will try those settings you reccomended and gwt back to ya. I hope they work.

Just to add a bit to this, My CPU shows up as an E8400 stepping C0 in CPU-Z, yet the box that the cpu came in says it's a BX80570E8400, is this right??
also some testing has revealed that the cpu wont even boot into windows with less then 1.425 @ 4 Ghz and this is not stable, currently have it @ 1.45620 running in Orthos. I guess it wasn't the MSI P35 Platinum after all.
I will keep raising voltage till she's stable, see what happens.

    conflict with Plextor PX-760A IDE

    P5Q Deluxe
    E8500
Corsair Dominator CM2X2048-8500C5D in yellow slots
    WD VelociRaptor 150g SATA 1
    WD 500g SATA 2
    Lite-ON DVD SATA 3
    eVGA 6800 in blue slot

When I set up my system for the first time, I was reusing my Plextor 760A IDE DVD burner in the IDE port. The Marvel IDE port was enabled in the BIOS.
Plextor jumper stayed as Master, connected to 80 pin cable correctly.
When I pressed the power button on the MB, the cpu, video card fans started, heard the short "OK" beep, but then nothing came onto the screen, no pOST messages.

After trying different IDE cables, with the same results, I removed the IDE cable from the motherboard, and when I powered the system up again I got the POST screen OK after the short "OK" beep!

Fortunately I also have a LiteOn SATA DVD burner that I connected and there was no problem with that and I was able to instal the OS.

I even flashed to newest BIOS-1406 Still the same problem!

Is there anyone out there that has had success with a Plextor Px-760A on their P5Q Deluxe?

I read on other post that said that since IDE function is not on the newer Intel chipsets anymore, the IDE functions are handled by separate chipsets on the mb ie Marvell and others. And that alot of times these separate chips don't recognize optical IDE drives well.

The Plextor drive works fine on my DFI Infinity 975x/g MB!

Well, after the weird BIOS reset on reboot problem, I reconfigured my BIOS several times with no luck. I even tried some of the user posted ones and most wouldnt even boot. I finally decided to just scap everything and start my OC from scratch and reset the BIOS and just left everything on auto and pushed it until couldn't take it no more.

    So far I'm at 3.6GHz (8 x 450) 12hrs Prime95 blend stable with only a few adjustments.

    CPU Ratio Setting : 8.0
FSB Strap to North Bridge : 333
    FSB Frequency : 450
    PCI-e Frequency : 100
    RAM manually set to 5-5-5-15
    CPU Voltage : 1.31875
    DRAM Voltage : 2.00
    NB Voltage : 1.26
    CPU Margin : Perfomance Mode

All the rest are on auto or default setting. I was pleasantly surprised to get 3.6GHz on this BIOS (1406) as it was very difficult on all previous BIOSes I tried. The CPU runs super hot as usual, but it seems stable with little effort. My core max. temps were 67,67,75,73 using HW Monitor and were about the same with previous BIOSes.

I am very happy with 3.6 and all I ever wanted out of this chip. I may play around and try for 3.7, which I could never get more than a couple hours prime95 stable before, just for kicks.

    -=Mark=-
ps. I've got a few spare bux burning a hole in my wallet. I've been thinking of replacing this 9450 for one of the newer E0 stepping CPUs. Is it worth it for the cooler temps. also, I have water cooling on this beasts and I'm still super hot! Also, is it worth the extra bucks to get the 9550 or 9650, or will I get much on a speed increase?

Oh well... Yesterday the pc was running smoothly, but today already had to reset it! XP crashed When I turned the monitor on, it remained with a black screen

I'm really getting desperate with this What the hell is going on here?

Sounds like you got a ty chip, or you could have a serious MB issue one of the two is my guess. Oh no wait you are the one that had your voltages through the roof.. You probably tore the chip up at this point.

What do you mean by voltages through the roof? I think you're referring to someone else because the maximum voltages that I gave to this cpu is the one I'm using now, 1.33125V, CPU PLL Voltage the maximum was/is 1.56, FSB Termination Voltage was 1.24 (or 1.26, not sure right now), DRAM Voltage was 2.14 and NB Voltage was/is 1.30!

Are these voltages that high? Don't think so, for what I have seen here at this thread...

Coldboot? Isn't that only when you boot up the pc or it happens too with windows fully loaded and running?

Ok then maybe I am wrong but, it seems like you have a cruddy chip maybe. Have you tried your gtls at auto? Also what BIOS revision are you using there?
