go for the 750i for two way sli or 780i which have both proven to hit over 4ghz with ease the little extra to 4.2-4.5 wont get you any better gameing performance! or you could go Crossfire i would recommend the evga 780i or 750i with two gtx 260's in sli and then overclock the lot can play crysis @ 1920x1080 on max settings at stock and even better overclocked. which means this will play pretty much every game for the next few years. well i hope. good look finding what you want. hope this has helped

currently running a amd 9850 @2.6 on a m32a32mvp with a couple of 3870's and getting ****ed as i can't get it any higher no matter what i try , and think i'm just now havin a pci-e slot failure so i'm going to make the big switch to intel /nvidia (been a long while)

Looking at maybe a Q9650 quad, i what to be around that price range, so what is a good ocing board, iv'e heard that nvidia chipsets not good at ocing intel quads? so intel chipset better? been a asus guy for a long time , don't need to stay that way just not sure what else could be better.

i would like to get over 3.0 as much as i can for about 500$ chip w/h2o and sli for sure. looks like your getting into the 4's and stable, cool!

Thanks for your time and sorry if i'm in the wrong thread for this, wasn't sure were else to go.

    SG,
Yeah, 780i boards good for about 440-450FSB, 790i boards a little better to around 475, some reports are higher but I'm yet to get one that does. Tried 3 Striker 2 Extremes and they all max'd out around 475 using 2 different QX9650's. Main thing though is that they become unstable at high (more than 4.2 GHZ) CPU speeds regardless of multi used. The good thing is that they are a genuinely fast boards although they don't overclock as well as P45, X38 or X48 chipsets.

Have 2 identical machines, one has a Striker 2 Extreme and the other a Rampage Extreme. The Rampage clocks noticeably higher and benches higher generally ( except memory read & latency ) , but the Striker based system is way faster in Windows and is game killer with 2 x GTX 280's. I have not tried any Crossfire setups so graphics performance may be equal to or better than an SLi setup !@!

Bottom line is........If you want bragging rights for overclocking ( and don't misunderstand here, the guys in this thread deserve all the praise we can bestow) go Intel chipset. If you want an extremely responsive system, go the 790i setup. Your clocks will definitely not be as high but Windows will be lightening fast when matched up with the right ancillary hardware. However, be warned that nVidia chipsets are not as easy to clock successfully as Intel. Be prepared for some painful episodes before you get it right, but it is worth it.

I've got a Gigabyte EP45T Extreme coming in tomorrow as that seems to be one of the favoured board's in this thread and I'll see how it performs. If it outperforms the Striker 2 Extreme ( in all around responsiveness and not purely overclocking numbers which I'm sure it will do easily ) then to quote NapalmV5 " I'll napalm ASUS" and move on.

Taking all into account though, I have not clocked either of these systems successfully over 4.5GHz ( with a quad that is ..) and big things happen speed wise when you get over that number with high FSB speeds..

I have the same question as SrgtGoat. I am also going the way of Q9650 and want to know the best board available. I would think it is the P53E but just wanted to make sure. Any recommendations on RAM would be appreciated as well. I am thinking about the Corsair Dominator XMS2 8500. Planning on running this with PC P&C 750 W supply. Also planning on getting a 4870 X2 and go crossfire maybe in the future

I have the eVGA 750i and I've hit a 470 FSB.. and could probably do more but not tried yet.. thats over 4.2 Ghz on my Q9650.. So my 750i is workin pretty good so far.

also to Napalm and all you others.. question. I see you said that your not sure anyone could hit 4.5 Ghz with a 500w PSU.. and I see your point. I have the Corsair HX520. I've heard they are really good PSU's. but today I saw something that worried me. I downloaded CPUID's HwMonitor. and the PSU voltages were NOT good. Here. check it out for yourself.

Now this is a SS of my system. with 4.0 Ghz at 444FSB.. with a 1:1 Divider and my GTX260 from 576MHz to 730 Mhz. (great Card.) and the temps.. bla bla bla.
Here's what worried me. I've said a few times before that my PSU's 12v rail was running at 11.92 but this is what HwMontitor reads.. NOT good. but could be wrong.

12v Rail is at 7.39v.. (Can't be right) I'd be having Major issues right? I just played 3 hours of HL2 EP1 with NO problems at 4.0 Ghz. There's no way it would be stable with 7.30v on 12v rail right?
then the 3.3 is at 3.0v thats ok i guess. then the 5v at 4.56. thats ok but could be better. (Are these wrong)

In the BIOS the 12v rail reads 11.92 instead of this 7.36v BS.. So I'm just not sure now. and Napalm, you said a 500w couldn't push 4.5 Ghz.. what would.. the Corsair Hx620.. or should I go bigger? 750, 800. and also do you think my current PSU is "NOT" enough.. or is it ok?

    ohhh... thats NOT good..

    haha $#!T!

Where is your 5v rail in that picture.. also it says this in monitor. but 11.92 in my BIOS. why would it be so off.. also mine shouldn't be even at 11.92.. cuz I'm not using all 520w.. the efficiency should be higher with the less voltage you use..

I don't know. thats not cool. but thanks for posting that. now I know something MIGHT be wrong... Ahh..

If you looking for a power supply with a good 12v rail without any mod, you might want to take a look at this:

I have used HW Monitor and I have always had issues with it reporting correct voltages on my Asus boards, almost seems like a compatability issue. I use the included software with my Odin in conjuction with the Asus monitor software to monitor my voltages. Seems to work well.

I just purchased a QX9650 and given the challange of getting this motherboard stable with a dual core, I should would like a head start with this quad core. I took me a week to get this motherboard stable when I first got it. Thanks in advance.

    dont trust soft..

    thanks Jor3lBR

    use a mm to monitor

520watt psu is not adequate for 4.5ghz.. no way no how unless its a godly 520watt psu

    suggestion: 750watt pcpower&cooling

you know you dont have to buy more psu/mobo/cooler/what not.. like ive said in an earlier post.. enjoy the hardware/oc that you already got

    Hey guys,

I noticed cpu-z differs a fair bit from what I have cpu volts set at in the bios, which do you go by?

Taking all into account though, I have not clocked either of these systems successfully over 4.5GHz ( with a quad that is ..) and big things happen speed wise when you get over that number with high FSB speeds..
    thanks

interested/wanna see what your 2x qx9650 do on the ep45t extreme

im gettin the ep45t extreme tomorrow aswell

    Thanks Napalm,

I'm perplexed as I set my vcore to 1.33 and under load (P95)with LLC off, cpu-z is showing 1.24 and that's the most vdroop I've ever had on any P35/X48.

    This is using my UD3P.

    I didn't re-install cpu-z after changing from my Q6600, I don't think that would make any difference.

That's where I'm scratching my head.

Edit: I'm also a little hesitant to use LLC on a regular basis as I can't make heads or tails if the *spike* theory is fact or fiction encompassed with degrading.

Setting 1.33 in the bios also shows 1.23-1.24 without load in cpu-z, so something is just not right here.

I took me a week to get this motherboard stable when I first got it. Thanks in advance.
