I hate long period of prime95 runs it's not a good idea to load CPU with 2-3 hours prime95... (sorry, that's just my opinion) and btw it shows us, if a system stable or not...

Me too! I hate it even more when you're almost stable and it errors out after a few hours, meaning you gotta wait for it to go through the same crap all over again... and again...

Perhaps you should use Intel Burn program, you know the one which uses Linpack. I find it ideal for innitial testing. If it's stable for 15 runs (which take up around 15 minutes) you have a good indication that the system is fairly stable. Mind you, I gives your CPU hell
Got my E8600 running temps of 90 degrees Celcius, that's with watercooling. Prime and Orthos will max out at 70 degrees.

the thing is, for me atleast, when using linx (linpack) i works 10-15 rounds, and THAT pushes the cpu more than prime, but prime fails Small FFT in 30 mins or less... dont get it? WHY? goin crazy why prime just wont be as easy though it loads less on the cpu.

hmmm you got me... I do know that you have to give Linpack as much as ram as you can give it to be thorough enough. I usually kill as much processes I can, so that with my 2GB rig I give 1.65GB to Linpack. Untill now this process worked best for me.

No i know linpack doesnt do that, but Small FFT's dont stress ram at all either, thats the thing... or have i got it wrong, small calculations stresses cpu, and large memory used onés stresses RAM... thats why i wonder why prime SMALL fails and not heavy duty linpack.

Gaming dayz long, 3D Marks & IBT stable and they call me "unstable guy" cuz of prime95 fails after unnecessary 2-3 damn hot hours... I know people run prime95 10-15 hours long it's a useful test but not a goal...

No, I won't use it. I used to use it but after coming to my senses I realized there is no chance I'll ever tax the system as much as IBT stresses it, never in a million years. I find it excessively stressful. No game, application or anything else is ever going to stress it like that, so why bother? It's putting the CPU in a completely unrealistic situation.

I want a stable processor, sure, however, I don't want to cook it and eat it for dinner.

yeah higher VID gives less margin when you raise vcore, therefore lower VID's works at a higher temp, cant be any other reason?

Whehe yes yes. It's known that low VID stepping run hotter than ones with higher VID. It's also known that the Intel Burn program will ad +20 degrees on you normal load temperature. Normaly during Priming and Orthos my max temp is 68 degrees.

I allready looked into it, but there are simular reports of high temps with this stepping ( Q822A435 ) I haven't changed anything on my setup. Waterblock is lapped , uses Arctic Silver 5 and makes perfect contact. My last E8500 ran a lot cooler compared to this E8600. It's just a hit chip, but it clocks like hell (4500Mhz @ 1.32v) so I'm not complaining.
But it also could be the temp sensor of the chip itself is off. I've got SSS (Stuck Sensor Syndrome) according to Real Temp.
Idle will not go lower than 41 degrees even with ambient 18 degrees and 3Ghz @ 1.16v

yeah i know that but still? the vcore can be really missleading if not loaded, it can be a huge vdrop, or it can raise at load?, and we know simple math right? you know, it says when the workers started and where it's at? just add the hours? why be in a race when you do not follow the rules? im not pissed or anything... but ...just do it?

Dont paint me as the "bad" man here dude , Im just sayin.

prime it 1min for all i care and add or something? just want to see it, the "rules" says it clearly in the first post, and he has mentioned it some times in this thread to......

heck, im trying as hell to get my stable at the lowest vcore i can get, therefore im been priming like WEEKS to get it right, and it still doesnt go more than 3 hours, well 2 times, but then i was sleeping so i couldnt take the god damn print so I KNOW it aint funny do prime, i think the cpu is degrading for every day that goes, couse i have a print with over 4hours prime at 1.40, now it crashes at 1.416 after 2hours.. so somethings up.. probably the usual burn in degrading that comes with 45nm... but anyway?

i will need 1.42 for 4,5 and i personally think that sucks i will get me rampage extreme, hopefully its just this board thats a pain in the azz and not the cpu, couse this is tearing me apart with weeks of trial and error, thats TO much for me...

and hey sorry if you got offended or something, didnt mean it like that, just wanted to see it

    cheers!

Small FFT's was the game, and it cleared! puuh, suddenly i got the right combo for pll and fsb and GTL. Here's Q820A627
