QX6850 currently on 9x400 fsb with +4 vnb BIOS target, and 1.35v real. I think i might just leave it be right here. It's a family build, so i don't think another 400mhz is gonna be crucial. also it's on that 92mm Xig still with pushpin mount, which is really affecting temps, so although i could, i'm not going to 1.4v.
Another thing though, does this board have a DIMM slot preference? cause i've having a lot of trouble getting my sticks to stock (GEIL 1066 CL5 2.2-2.4v) in slots 2&4. It seems BIOS just really doesn't like me manually setting ram speeds...

as far as preferred dimm slots...always try 1 & 3 before trying 2 & 4...my board has no difference between either bank.
what Vdimm are you using?

9x400 needs a little over 1.4v to be stable, so i think i'm going to keep it at 9x360 until i get a backplate, ram underclocked at 960mhz.
guess my chip just sucks. good thing i didnt pay retail price =]

Ace-a-Rue, I'm starting to think my problem is with the PSU and not with the Mother-Board as I thought at start.
1. It's not a VC problem since the problem occurs also when no VC is connected (not getting error message on the 7-segment).
2. I noticed when the 4870 is connected and I get a good boot none of the 4 LEDs on the VC turns on (good thing) but when I don't get a boot 3 out of 4 LEDs turn on, That means a power problem.
I don't have another PSU here to check it but I can try to connect this PSU to my old P4 and see what happens.

Well, I ordered an e8600 to replace my q9450. It's been running great at 3.92Ghz for at least a month so far, but a friend was looking for a new CPU and I was looking for a higher per-core clock. I've been a little disappointed since I got this quad, given the fact that my favorite game (NFSMW) doesn't take advantage of the extra cores. It runs slightly slower than it did on my 65nm dual. Given 490 being stable with a quad, should I expect more FSB headroom going to the dual? I'm also hoping for tighter memory timings, since the quad seems to have hit them pretty hard.

That requirement doesn't look completely correct. 4870 definitely has two connectors. See pics:

Today I connected my PSU (Corsair VX550) to my old P4 and got same problems !!!!!11one
I will RMA this PSU later this week, it was much easyer for me to put the blame in the mother-board/ memory/ video card than the new PSU.
I guess the learning of some things come only at the hard way.
I will update you after getting the new PSU.

dood even my 1000 watt psu bogs down a little with a high oc and a 4870/4850 crossfire connected, if I were you I would get 750 watts AT LEAST

corsair TX750 is a great, reliable psu, and it's preddy darn cheap.
My Kill-A-Watt reads 528w at the wall with a single 4870@800/1100 and a q9540@3.92 running furmark and prime, but that's with a single 7200rpm HDD and not much else. Bad PSU or not, you're definitely straddling the line at 550w... You may consider upgrading it instead of replacing with the same.

The 4870 never was the problem since the problem was there even without any video card connected.
But I will consider replacing the PSU for a stronger one.
The Kill-A-Watt is a nice gadget, but there is only 110v version :/

550w is the MAXIMUS output for that psu so yeah he's definately pushing it.
on a diff note i hit 541 fsb today not to hard either most is still on auto![]()
Which program you use for checking the temp with this board ? Almost every program shows me different number :/ (I'm using the newest BIOS)
- The program that came with the mother board disk shows the same number as on the 7-segment (on the board itself).
- Realtemp 2.70 shows me another number.
- OCCT v2.0.0a shows me the same number as SpeedFan 4.35 and this number is different from the other two above.
