Here is a quick picture of the CNC which is almost complete!

I will post more “real” updates once I make more progress on the computer itself…

The CNC is setup for 3 axes’ (XYZ). To give an idea of its scale; the bars along the X axis are 49”, the bars along the Y axis are 34.5”, and the bars along the Z axis are 12”. Build costs are still under $1000.

Well as you can tell I’m the “do it yourself” kind of guy so I figured why not? The CNC is designed to handle wood, plastic, plexiglas, etcetera. It will even handle thin aluminum at slower speeds.

One of the first jobs for the CNC will be to make a LCD faceplate for the front of Koolance’s Riser.

Evil-98: If you’re interested in building your own I can send you some links. There are also options on eBay….

For those of you watching this thread thinking “why is this thread not in the Liquid cooling worklogs section”? I’ve asked multiple mods and received nothing so I’m still waiting…..

So I figured it was finally time to give you guys some updates!!!!!

    “Custom CNC Mill” (Primary project)

Here are a few shots of the build as of this afternoon.

I’ve received many questions and comments regarding the CNC so I will answer a few of the main questions.

Where can I get more information or the plans?
    http://www.cnczone.com/forums/showth...errerid=104339
Beware: The plans do have some flaws!!! These issues are easily worked out however.

How did you go about making the parts for this?
    • I stared by ordering parts from eBay, McMaster, Menards, Home Depot.
    • I cut the 8020(metal bars) with a miter saw and tapped the holes.
    • I drew each MDF (wood/particle type board) part in AutoCAD and had them printed at Kinko’s to scale.
    • I used a glue stick to attach the blueprints to the MDF and cut them out with a circular saw and a drill press.
    • Started assembling and here I am!!

Please note that these are over simplified instructions; I’m just too lazy to type out everything.

“P180 Mini” build for the CNC Mill (Secondary priority as it relies on the completion of the CNC Mill)

    No pictures yet sorry.

I am in the process of hacking up the top of the case to install a piece of red acrylic in the place of the top fan. The purpose of this is to keep particles from the CNC from getting into the case.

“Black Silverstone TJ-10” Build (last priority due to parts availability)

I’m still waiting on the release of the EVGA 790i FTW and Bitspower’s 790i block. The EVGA 790i FTW is slated for this coming week according to Jacob.

The Intel QX6850!!!! I’m really exited to try this out but alas I have no motherboard!!

I got my GTZ today and since there aren’t many pictures of it online I figured I would take some!

What is that wet spot in my box?!?

The new Feser 240 Radiator with Scythe fans.

Koolances shroud and riser fit very well on top of the case, and looks cool too!
The custom panel for the LCD will screw onto the front of the riser.

If you have any questions or comments please feel free to post them!

Would you mind talking about how you painted the motherboard try, HDD cages, and whatever other goodies went from silver to black? I saw that you posted a picture of all the pain you used, but I'm not sure in what order you applied them. Just curious because I'll probably be building a similar rig for my Core i7 (Nehalem) when I get my hands on one

    Thanks!

    Major Update!

    “Black Silverstone TJ-10” Build

    I received my EVGA 790i FTW finally…

I was also able to find and order the ram I wanted.
Super Talent Project X D3-1800 4GB (2x2GB) Dual Channel Memory Kit
    Mfr Part Number: W1800UX4GP
    Capacity: 4 GB (2x 2GB)
    Speed: PC14400 1800MHz CL 8-8-8-24

    New fittings and tubing
    Bitspower 1/2ID 3/4OD Compression Fittings

Since I’m using the Feser 240 radiator will it still be beneficial to use the black ice 120 radiator or will that hurt the loop (too restrictive)?

    The order was:
    1. Sand with 400 grit
    2. Sand with 800 grit
    3. Clean
    4. Apply 1-2 coats of Self Etching Primer
    5. Let dry
    6. Apply 3-7 coats of either gloss or semi gloss paint.
    7. Let dry FULLY

    “Custom CNC Mill” Build

I’m in the process of converting select parts to metal.
    Updates coming soon……

“P180 Mini” build for the CNC Mill
Basically done, just some wiring left.

    On a side note
I’m moving to California in a few days and I need to bring my computer. Does anyone have any recommendations on how to ship my computer with having it be destroyed in the process?

Looks great Ben. I would keep the black ice in the loop, it won't restrict flow too much and will add some cooling. You're moving out of the great state of MN??? I would double box your case. Take off anything not completely secure and ship it separately.

Yea, I moved to California from Maryland for college 5 years ago and I had to ship my PC as well. Luckily I kept the original packaging that the case came in.

It was your normal rectangular box with 2 styrofoam pieces for the front and rear end of the case as well as a bag for the case itself to go in. I packed it up like it had been delivered, but wrapped the mid-section of the case which wasn't covered by the styrofoam pieces in bubble wrap (Luckily we had a roll hiding in the basement).

I also took a bunch of brown paper bags from the grocery store, cut them so I could un-roll them and lay them flat. I taped them together, inside out, and used them to wrap the box to conceal that there was a PC inside.

I didn't pack anything inside the case. There were quite a few internals, though. 3 HDs, 3 Optical drives, a SCSI card, an IDE expansion card, a GeForce, and the waterblock for the CPU. I didn't have a problem with anything falling apart, but if you want to put some packaging in there be careful what you put. You don't want any plastics or anything that could possibly create static charge (packing peanuts, for example always get stuck to your arm because they have a lot of static).

Everything arrived to my college and was held in the package center for a day without problem. The only issue I had was when I tried to boot up the machine - it beeped an error code at me. The error code was that there was no graphics card attached. All I had to do was re-seat all of my expansion cards. I suppose they got rattled around in the truck...

Oh yeah, I sent it UPS (if that matters).

I hope that helps! Good luck, and keep up the good work.

Ben is it necessary to use both the shroud and riser or do you think it can be done by only using the shroud?
