I did a lot of testing yesterday/last night and I cannot see any difference in 1402/1403. I thought it OC'd a tad better but was wrong. Would be interesting to hear what they did that was different.

I shorted out my motherboard P5Q Deluxe (my dumb mistake) and I heard a spark and now it won't boot. The PSU will power on and and die after few seconds. Anyway, I noticed a burn smell from my 2xbios chips after I popped em out. I fear the Asus RMA process so I'm praying its just the bios chips so I ordered a 2x replacement ones. Anyone ever have to resurrect a board this way?

Just wondering if someone can clarify the PCIe lanes on the ASUS P5Q Deluxe, sorry if its already been answered before but not sure what to search for:

    2 x PCI Express 2.0 x16 slots, support ATI CrossFireX™ technology at x8 link
(PCIe x16_1 blue, PCIe x16_2 black*)
    1 x PCI Express x16 slot at max. x4 link(black)
    2 x PCI Express x1 slots
    2 x PCI slots
*PCI Express x16_2 slot (black at max. x8 link)

I'm running a single graphics card, 8800gt, running at x16. I want to get a PCIE raid card (Areca 1210) which is a PCIE x8 card so I'm confused as to whether it'll have any affect on the graphics card. If I plug it into the first black PCIE slot will the card run at x8 and will the graphics card slow down to x8 or still run at x16?

1 x PCI Express x16 slot at max. x4 link(black) - is this the second black PCIE slot? And if I plugged the raid card into that would it run at x4?

    Cheers!

This is Not Fact by any stretch of the imagination, but this is my understanding. Top x16 slot will run at x16 with 1 VGA card and will still run x16 if the 2nd x16 slot has a card running at x1, otherwise if both slots are occupied then each slot will run at x8.

As to your Raid card running in the x4 slot, which is the lowest x16 length slot, that all depends on how your card runs. I run my U320 Scsi Raid card in the lowest x16 slot at x4 and it runs just fine. My thoughts are to either wait until someone with your card and or config replies, or search around here and or 2cpu forums to see if anyone has asked this before. Best I can do.

I'm having several problems with the motherboard and I was wondering if you guys could help.

The motherboard had a Intel e8500 up and running and it burned out (from the smell and the computer turning off) so I decided to buy another processor.

Now when I bought the first e8500 it would not turn on but it seems after having it either unplugged for a day or some other reason it turned on. With the second processor it seems that the motherboard is behaving the same way.

The motherboard is receiving power since the power/reset buttons on the motherboard are lit. Also if I do a CMOS reset how long should I do it for and what steps do I take? Do I unplugged the power cable, move the jumper, and then hold down the power button? It doesn't work if I move the jumper with it powered on and then move it back after 15 seconds.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Sigh.

    Another problemesque P5Q Deluxe.

I'm running 4 x 1 GB Crucial Ballistix Tracer 8500 (double sided) and have two problems with this board. Bearing in mind the memory could run at 1200Mhz on my old MSI P35 NEO2 FIR 24/7.

First problem I can kind of live with, the memory won't run much above 800Mhz on this board. Disappointing, but OK, board will run all day @ 800.

Second problem is more irritating, and will probably go to RMA. The board will not cold boot with all four sticks in. Startup goes like this (I normally run the memory at 1.9V at 800Mhz btw).

Before power on (obviously), take out one stick. Power up, go into bios, set voltage to 2.2, power down. Replace stick, board goes into "overclock fail" message, hit F1, F2 etc. Go into bios, set voltage to 1.9V, save and restart, board boots normally onto windows.

How annoying is this. I've tried running the voltage at 2.2V, and it still won't boot from cold.

Anyone think Asus is going to sort this? I haven't been in contact with their support yet. Long time lurker here, thought I'd try a post, sound out what you guys think. RMA time? Don't really want to sell my memory, and have the same problem again.

Somewhat disappointed in this board, with it's 16 phase power, yeh that helps!

Thanks for that. The Areca ARC-1210 runs at x8 though so I just want to be sure that running it in the second x16 slot wont cause the vga card to run at x8 as well

I did the same thing as you I bet. I shorted out the fan plug right next to the clear cmos jumper with the clear cmos jumper lol. I eventualy rmaed mine. You popped the power regulator to the fan plug if that is what you did. I would just send it back and consider it lesson learned.

Disabling LLC gives me BSOD!! That's really wierd! I never had the BSOD before on this system - first time ever. Enabled LLC and BSOD Gone. Unexplainable.

Anyhow, Shutdown woes persists. Tried a whole bunch of uninstalling software, this-that, nothing prevails. PC still doesn't power off.

I haven't given downgrading BIOS a shot yet, a bit hesitant. Last time I downgraded BIOS, I had a very hard time attaining OC Stability when I eventually upgraded BIOS. Right now OC & System is absolute stable - so really hesitant on downgrading BIOS. But will keep it as a last ditch effort.

That is kinda wierd. If indeed it is anything to do with the CPU Margin Enhancement burning up something in the Q9450, I may have been infected by the same, causing my sudden Shutdown woes. But I do hope you're wrong.

If you were around we could have swapped chips and see if it had anything to do with with the chip itself.

Not sure how to resolve my Shutdown issues right now though - getting really annoyed!

    @LUCI5R:

What is your 'CPU Margin Enhancement' set at? If it's at 'Optimal' try setting it to 'Performance'. Did read a thing on the ASUS forums, that doing that managed to fix some issues people were having. Whether or not it will help you I don't know. But it's worth a try.

Will definately give it a shot when I get home (At work). It is set to Optimized right now.

Thanks. I'll write back with what happens.

If that doesn't help, I'm also considering wiping out hard drive and reinstalling OS. That'll at least root out Software possibilities.

I would try to enable C1E with 1.36V before uping Volts.

It's worth a try mate. What kind of temps do you get when you IBT for 10 passes? Mine touch 70-71c and thats with a 1.25 vcore!

Have you tried downgrading to 0803?

What is C1E? I'll try Enabling it but quite honestly I don't want to go beyond 1.36V ... I've been stable @ 3.8GHz with 1.35V so don't really see any need in going beyond 1.36V.

I'll definately give both CPU Margin Enhancement & C1E a shot to see if it makes any difference. Only during priming have my temperatures touched around 70 ~ 74. During any operations or use of my system (And I mean exhaustive use like full HD 1080p h.264/VC-1 2Pass > 20mbps encoding / rendering etc.) I never go beyond 70 degrees.

I'm hesitant in downgrading BIOS, I've kept that as last resort. I've done it in the past to solve a problem and it only created bigger problems.

    @anglereaper,

I'm glad I could help, now don't rub it in lol.

    @Luci5r

I would try 0803 and see if your issues stop seriously. I hate to say it but, it was the first thing that I thought happened after noticing it in the newer BIOS revisions... I hope I am wrong to though. The tech still hasn't called me back yet on it not working for me so.....and yes I would love for some one close to me on here to swap for a few minutes with me to see what happens..

If C1E, CPU Margin Enhancement, and +1 up/down on vCore doesn't resolve my Shutdown woes, I'll give BIOS 0803 a shot and let you know what happens.

You're not in Upstate NY by any chance, are you?

I'll definately give both CPU Margin Enhancement & C1E a shot to see if it makes any difference. Only during priming have my temperatures touched around 70 ~ 74. During any operations or use of my system (And I mean exhaustive use like full HD 1080p h.264/VC-1 2Pass > 20mbps encoding / rendering etc.) I never go beyond 70 degrees.

I'm hesitant in downgrading BIOS, I've kept that as last resort. I've done it in the past to solve a problem and it only created bigger problems.
    Advance CPU Settings
    C1E Suppport: Enabled

It lets multiplier to adjust itself based on cpu usage, low task it drops to 6 and then ups if needed.

I have C1E always on when I set LLC on, this helps idling/low task stability (also shutdown issue) in all boards that LLC actually up Vcore when cpu is under load.

I would highly recommended that you do try downgrading to 0803 even if it is a last resort. I was using a 1206 BIOS before 0803. 1206 was about as stable as a donkey with 1 leg. Everything at stock, and P95 would fail within seconds on Cores 1 & 3. Downgrading to 0803 fixed that instantly.

Anyone ever have to resurrect a board this way?
How did you short it out exactly? Where was the short on the board? I would say you have severely damaged if not killed the board. If I were you, I'd RMA it and not run any of my gear in it again in case it takes out your ram/cpu/graphics card.

Have you verified the first CPU is no longer working on another board? It sounds like your board may be defective, or the VRM circuit (Mosfet etc) burned and is not providing power to the cpu or another critical part of the board. It's very unlikely the CPU itself burned. It could also be your power supply that burned. Test all components separately and figure out what is faulty.

What vNB are you running? Try setting it to 1.32v, set Transaction booster to 'manual' then set 'common performance level' (PL) to 10 and retest it.
