Quattro, don't quote such large posts please.

For LCC, i left mine at auto and can still use very low Vcore.

I read a few pages back (from EF I think) that having a higher CPU voltage and LLC disabled avoids the Vdroop issue.

UPDATE : Now at 450x9 with memory CR at 1T, it gives quite a healthy boost to the Everest memory read speed now at 11,511. I had to increase NB voltage to 1.563 since my previous bios screen. I think this is definitely at the limit of air so might look to see what W/C solution best suits my case.

My RE just arrived today and I have a question. I presently am running the board in my sig. I got to wondering if my o/s install would carry over so I went to the Asus site and looked at the chipset drivers for both the RE and the P5Q and was surprised to see that they are in fact the same driver. I found this odd as the chipset is different, P45 vs X48. It looks to me that I will be able to just move the drives from one m/b to another without any problem other than setting up like values in the bios. And possibly no Vista activation resets. Is this true?

Actually what I meant was that it is better to raise the VCore to compensate for the VDroop, as sometimes when LLC is used stability test may seem stable, but when the system is under light load it actually becomes unstable, and BSOD randomly.

Also using any sort of VDroop compensation seems to harm the CPU during load changes... Anandtech has an article on the subject if anyone is intrested.

I tried that when I moved from Maximus Formula, but it was weird. Certain drivers didn't transfer over and other weird things happened. It was just better to reinstall Windows fresh.

    Greetings,
3oh6 invited me to this topic and said you all could help. My new ER is running great with an E8600 @ 4 – mild over clock with almost everything set to auto. I made a bios template that would be easy to fill out with suggested settings or with setting that work with your particular CPU/system. Cut and paste

This can be used to aid in getting help from the group.

fix cpu voltage, dont leave him to auto try to find the right vcore.

secondo thing, use timing 8-8-8 or 7-7-7 ^_^

I set the CPU voltage and changed the memory but had to change it back. Runs best at 9-9-9

I carried my nForcr 790i install over to this mobo - just uninstalled nvidia chipset drivers first (and de-activated iTunes) and it booted first time so I then installed the intel drivers. I would always recommend a clean install if there's not much set up time involved - in this instance it saved me a day installing software and games across various partitions.

You will have to re-activate Vista i'm 99.9% certain of that.

Has anyone tried the Swiftech MCW-NBMAX W/B yet that replaces the fusion block ?. Looks like it arrives in the UK at the end of next week.

I'm looking to watercool my CPU and N/B but on a budget of £170 so I'll be leaving the stock heatpipe assembly on and was just wondering what temps I could expect. As well as my cost budget I want all of the components to fit inside my case so was looking at an XSPC RS240 Dual 120mm radiator, XSPC Dual 750 bay resevoir & pump, Swiftech Apogee GTZ CPU W/B and the Swiftech MCW-NBMAX. I think I can mount the rad in the hinged side frame or on the mesh panel at the base of my case.

The loop will be Pump/res -> Rad -> CPU -> NB -> Pump/res with quick release connectors and isloators at the radiator if side mounted.

    Hello

I apologize as this post may seem a bit pedestrian among a sea of posters who have achieved low temperature, stable and high speed OC systems. Unfortunately I have been stuck at stock speeds due to the high temperatures of Q9550.

I have sought advise on other forums and a few kind folks (Hi Java ) have offered a few hints and tips. Unfortunately none has remedied the situation.

System information along with the BIOS settings are displayed at the end of this post. Thank you coral11 for making your BIOS template available.

Several cooling configurations were tried and here are the results:

    [2.83 GHz]

    1) Zalman CNPS 9700 LED in 'bread board'/no case configuration:
    Ambient temperature: 26 C
    idle: 39,40, 46,46
    Load (Prime 95): 59,53,60,60
BIOS Settings: All default values with the exception of VCORE being set to 1.1

    2) XIGMATEK HDT-S1293 in ThermalTake Tsunami Dream:
    Ambient temperature: 26 C
    idle: 39,36,45,45
    Load (IBT): 67,65,67,67
BIOS Settings: All default values with the exception of VCORE being set to 1.1

As Prime 95 tests take too long to run, IBT was used instead. Although it is understood that the comparisons become somewhat skewed due to the usage of two different load testing programs, it is safe to assume that Prime95 results for this current configuration would be 5-7 cooler than what was obtained with IBT.

Unfortunately due to time and work constraints, the testing of the heatsinks were carried out in an ad-hoc and
non-scientific manner. However regardless of configuration, it is clear for whatever the reason the observed
temperatures are excessively high even for OC let alone stock speeds!

I have varied the VCORE anywhere from 1.1 to 1.2375 to no avail. I have also disabled LLC. Once again there was no difference. Per suggestions, northbridge voltage was changed to 1.35 which yielded no difference.

The AS5 was applied to the XIGMATEK in the manner that is described here:
    http://benchmarkreviews.com/index.ph...1&limitstart=5

[Scroll down to the last two pictures]

A single line of AS5 was also applied to the middle of the CPU as suggested by AS.

This method of applying AS5 to the Xigie and the CPU was tried by a few members of the HardForum. These folks experienced quite a bit of drop in temperatures.

Uninstalling and re-installing the cooler is quite an ordeal. If it will make a difference, this process can be repeated but at this point I see no value in it.

Currently all BIOS settings with the exception of VCORE, C1E Support, DRAM Frequency and DRAM Voltage are set to Auto or default values.

Any help or hint is greatly appreciated.

    Regards.

I don't want to detract this thread to water cooling other than post my results but could anyone PM me with any issues with either the components I have selected or if my loop can be improved. Thanks all.

How are the temp results on the NB and do you find that the heatdump from gth gpu to nb to cpu is worth it? What rad cooling do you have?

Anyone have a problem with .5 multipliers? I set mine to 6.5 and it boots into Windows and shows the multi at 6.

I'm getting about 43 idle and 48 under load. Radiator is a The Black Ice® GT Stealth 360. I have temperature sensors on the radiator and outbound discharge of the GPU block, temperatures are almost equal.

I just finished installing my 2nd RE after the first one died on me. Everything seems to be working ok with my QX9770 but my NB and SB temps are very high for stock speeds (both at 50c). I'm using all air-cooling nad replaced the fusion block with the bundled NB heatsink. I also swapped out the mosfet stock heatsink with the bigger one. Pc Probe is giving me good temps for the power but NB and SB are always hovering around 50c even when the PC is idle.

Does anyone know how this can be fixed? I took off the stock TIM and am using AS5 now. I'm assuming the stock mobo heatsink array is not making good contact though. Sadly, my first RE had good temps right out of the box with both NB and SB around 36c idle.
