    Intel updates desktop CPU details

Intel has updated its partners with details its latest desktop CPU roadmap, as well issuing product discontinuance notice (PDN), end of life (EOL) and price cut schedules for the next few months, sources at motherboard makers have disclosed.

The company is planning PDNs for the Core 2 Extreme QX9770 and 9650 in the first quarter of 2009, and the two CPUs will phase out of the market in the second quarter. The company will also send out PDNs for four quad-core CPUs including the Core 2 Quad Q9450, ten dual-core CPUs including the Core 2 Duo E8300, three Pentium CPUs including the Pentium E2220 and the Celeron E1200 starting in November, and all products will phase out between the first and second quarters next year.

On October 19, the company will cut the price of the Core 2 Quad Q8200 and Q6600, Core 2 Duo 7300, and Pentium E2220 and E2200 CPUs, and will launch the Core 2 Duo E7400.

On November 30, the company is planning to launch the Core 2 Quad Q8300 with a core frequency of 2.5GHz, Pentium E5300 at 2.6GHz, and dual-core Celeron E1500 at 2.2GHz, priced at US$224, US$86 and US$53 in thousand-unit tray quantities, respectively.

On January 18 next year, the company will launch the Core 2 Duo E7500 CPU at 2.93GHz and priced at US$133, and will reduce pricing for the Core 2 Quad Q8200 from US$193 to US$183, Core 2 Duo E7400 from US$133 to US$113, Pentium E5200 from US$84 to US$76, Pentium E2220 from US$84 to US$64 and Celeron E1400 from US$54 to US$43.

Intel will launch its Core i7 CPUs and X58 chipsets in November. Model numbers for the three Core i7 CPUs available at launch have been detailed as: Core i7 965 with a core frequency of 3.2GHz, Core i7 940 at 2.93GHz and Core i7 920 at 2.66GHz. The company will launch more models in the second quarter of 2009.

Intel declined the opportunity to respond to this report saying it cannot comment on unannounced products.

    Thats what overclocking is for

My Q9450 easily overclocked to 3.6ghz (450x8), which is more than enough CPU horse power to run any desktop application at blazing speed.

Q6700 and watercooling ftw, the higher multi is pretty much worthless on air and the Q6600 the better choice, but under water it shines, anyway, I'm happy with my 9550.
Well, atleast until nehalem comes out

I still think the 45nm quads with the crippled cache arent worth it, the advantage over the Q6600 is just too small to justify the higher price.

The E5300 for only 86$ does sound very tempting though for a second or third system.

well it's a Q6600 for my torrent/music build & then the wait for the Nehalems !
my QX9770 will do till they come around ............................

but i'm not gonna be the Intel/MoBo Test Bunny this time around ....

NO early adopter this go around , gonna wait & let the dust fall / Bug-b-gone stage before jumping in That Pool !

I'm starting on moddin' up a Water-Cube case for them , get that done perfect'0 then jump in DA NeHalems' Pool ,when the Bugs fly off ......

Well that's good an bad for me both. I can get my new CPU in Novemeber now, but the prices may be high becasue it's righrt before X-mas. Exactly what i was hoping they wouldn't do.

Now I don't know whether to wait, or to roll back to a 775 system.

It is good news that we have some news at least now. I really hope the next move is to lift those NDA's. I know there are people out there that have clocked these things. There always are. We now know we are around 8 weeks for release assuming a 2 week Nov launch. It didn't say which week in Nov, so I'm just splitting it down the middle. That of course would actuall be plus or minus 2 weeks.

I didn't even know they made the Q8200 until I stumbled across it in an online shop and then pressed "next product", unimpressed.

Hey guys I just wanted to get your two cents on my crazy head. As most of you know, I have the Asus Maximus Formula SE MB and Its powered with Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9770 clocked at 3.2GHz. Here is my question to you guys, Do I need to RUSH and get the upcoming Intel Core i7 Processor Lineup? Your Thoughts? And if not, how long before I need an System Update?

Also after reading around and reading in here, I have finally decided that I am gona get into this Water-Cooling Business." I have never did WC in my entire life, so this is new do me. I believe I can't call my system Extreme System, if it isn't OC. Also I feel this empty space in my head when it comes to Computers and WC. Me calling myself NERD, I feel I need to learn this WC Stuff. Your Thoughts?

I have also made up my mind and I am gona get the Lian Li PC-V1010 Case. I have a Stacker Now, but I feel I am gona have more Space with Lian Li. I will talk more about it when I am getting ready to order it. Your Thoughts?

the i7 will be worthless looking at the info out now if u know how to oc a 775 IMO, with lower clock for clock thread for thread performance untill there are 4-8 threaded apps this cpu serves no point

What the hell are you doing running an EE at stock? Really, I'm suprised you have not been banned from this forum already.

Oh, and i7 will be far from useless. It all depends what you use it for, for games you are probably better off without it but for things like 3d rendering and video encoding it should be more than worth the upgrade.
The only things I am hesitant about are seeing how the locked multi chips clock, and also the added expense of the platform shift. It may be more economical swapping out my E6750 with a penryn quad than splashing on a new motherboard and ram on top of an i7.

head over to the water cooling forums before U buy any thing ! look at the W/C builds & W/C case gallery ask questions we're a freindly bunch , as long as you done your reading 1st . i've had my QX9770 up at 4.2 GHz on water

search for Mountian Mods as they make a much better case for W/C'in

    IMO

Sorry guys, cut me some slack. Like I said I am new to this WC and OC Business. And since you are so enjoying yourself, I use to be SO Afraid to Update the Bios in the Old Day. But now I am cool. So Ya, I am gona learn about WC and OC and when everything is learned, you bet you money that I am gona be pushing my QX9770 to 4.0GHz Plus.

Until then, it all about reading and understand the concept of WC and OC!
