PART 4: The Watercooling gear - Continued

Here's the rest of the WC parts as promised:

First up is the EK-NB S-Max for the DFI P45.

No BP fittings for you then...

And the centerpiece of the whole design, nickel-plated for extra bling

    Can you say Shiiiiiineeeey!?

And a quick one of the EK res. I'm not sure where it's gonna fit, but oh well...

Now here's where things get interesting...

Yesterday i decided to drain and dismantle my open-desk loop to enable me to clean and prep the parts for the new build. So here's what Saturday morning looked like!

Here's the full loop still intact:

    But not for long

Just look at those tubes! Can you say DISGUSTING!? But just you wait, there's more to come...

The EK supreme didn't look to bad from the top, but here's what the base fins looked like after removing the accelerator plate:

Absolutely filthy! I've no idea what those little things are, but you can bet your house on one thing:

I will never, ever again use UV dye.

Here's all the parts after a good scrub in near-boiling water.

And just as a side note, I spent most of Saturday night flushing the blue crap out of the rad. I think i did it 15 times and the water still comes out blue .
I know it's not recommended anymore, but would a quick (like 5min) dose of vinegar in the rad help to remove the gunk? Or does anyone have any other suggestions?

Right. Before i finish up, here's one last pic of my old PC. Notice the Xtreme CPU cooler i'm using!

Idle temps went from 20 to 46 deg C, i quickly down-clocked to 2.4GHz (from 3.05GHz) and i'm now sitting at a balmy 37 deg idle. After 20mins of OCCT it loads at 57 deg C.

I can't wait to get back on water! Watercooling........FTW!

Man that nickel block looks sweet!!!

Can't say the same for that tubing and gunk in the supreme - glad you were able to clean it all up.

In regards to the rad I am not sure about that - wasnt there a lot of talk on this lately and the general consensus was not to use vinegar ever?

Whatever you do I am looking forward to seeing this all come together

People should stick to FESER cooling fluid. It's got UV in it and it's awesome, won't tint anything and prevents corrosion even with ALU+CU loops. As for the worklog, good job, keep it up!

Lol that was a glowing portrayal. It even prevents corrosion you say!? [/sarcasm]
FYI that was Feser stuff. Admittedly it was the dye (as opposed to the pre-mix), but pretty much the same thing once mixed with plain distilled H20.

    Twwen2,

Rig up your garden hose to therad. Somehow. Just do it.

Use pressurized water jets (stand away, and don't spray anyone ) The radiator will clean itself very quickly.

And then do your usual distilled water rinse.

I make full use of my garden hose. In fact, I use the same pressure washer that I use to wash my cars (but I don't recommend that you do that).

I'm telling you. Distilled water. Nothing else. no PT Nuke, no Pentosin, no Zerex. Nothing. With colour comes headaches.

    English minor you say

LOL . . .I said I hated it. You try having crap like "The History of Tom Jones" and "Moby " shoved down your throat and see how much you retain (keep in mind I was a business major with NO interest in literary crap . . .hell I have not read a leisure book in at least five or six years).

Man up Like Steve Austin . . .

Right. So let me get this straight. Should i just hook the hose up to the inlet and run the water through the rad at household pressure? Or are you suggesting that i somehow have a pressure jet as well? How would that work?

I'm pretty sure IanY means two things:

    1. Use tap pressure to flush your rad (tap pressure is more than a D5 I'd think) or you could...
    2. Use a pressure washer etc (if available but not recommended).

twwen2 I'm confused is the loop you setup what you had been running for a while or was that new liquid mix?

Only reason I ask is i have had distilled and Fesser Clear/UV in my loop for a couple of months and found no gunk in my blocks this weekend when I took it apart. Is it possible that this was just stuff from your rad?

    Just wondering thats all.

    Sweet looking build and photos.

That loop was the one i have been running on my desk for the last 2-3 months, with the parts in my sig.

Were you using the pre-mix or dye? I've got a feeling that the pre-mix is mixed better and is more resistant to separation. It could well have been some stuff from the rad, but it looks a bit too blue for that imo...

Soon, soon. Here's a few questions to y'all regarding the pics:

    1) Will photobucket throw a hissie fit and ruin my log? What's the deal with bandwidth limits and such?

    2) Would people prefer a smaller image size? Say 800x600? At the moment i feel like they are a little over-powering, they take over the page.

    1) I used photobucket for my worklog, plus other stuff, and never had any BW issues.
    2) 800x600 is ok, 1024x768 is usually a good size IMO, fits well on my monitor without being overpowering, but no larger for ease of use and other people's computers. Don't go smaller than 800x600 though please

If you don't mind all the work, small thumbnails like 400*300 that expand to maybe 1024*768 is prolly the best

Ok it looks like the popular vote goes to 1024x768, so i'll leave them as is.
I'll check that site out, thanks for the link.

Thanks all for the interest, i'm glad you all like it so far.
