I'll just ask here regarding this stuff http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=201070

How can you overclock with EPU6 enabled? I want to have it overclocked and also switch to power saving mode when i'm not doing anything demanding (like music playback over night or P2P over night).

Try this : Pull the power cord, pull the cmos battery for 15 minutes, clear the bios. Put it all back together and set the bios to load defaults. Then restart and reapply your settings.

Wow, very nice, I don't see your P5Q/E8600 system in your sig, how are you cooling it? And if you wouldn't mind sharing your Bios settings, I'd really appreciate it.
I really need to find a place, guide or glossary ect. describing the more esoteric Bios settings such as the CPU Margin enhancement or the Various GTL/PLL settings, there must be a manual or a Overclockers dictionary glossary and Thesaurus. Scouring forums is inefficient, and I don't want to bug the hell out of people here. I mean what is an AI clock Twister or a transaction booster? and what does it do. If you or anyone could point me in a direction it would be a big help. THanks, Mike

Anyone have issues with the video card hitting the caps under the blue 16x slot? Seems my friends 7900GS does not fit and the DVI port hits the caps....
I feel bad for recommending the asus already.

CPU Margin enhancement = no idea
GTL Ref = fine tuning the GTL (gunning transceiver logic) voltages of the cores - tunes the FSB window of the cores to allow higher FSB, most useful with quad core cpu's (0.63x is std for 45nm, 0.67x is std for 65nm)
vPLL = Phase lock loop voltage (sets the switching voltage - adjusting higher can decrease noize and stabilize an overclock)
AI Clock twister = MCH memory timing adjustment (lightest = slowest/loosest timings, strongest = tightest timings - most of us use moderate)
Transaction booster = allows you to manually set the PL (tRD) (set transaction booster to manual and below it, choose the PL you want. You are limited in your choice by the memory divider you are using. The lower the number the tighter the timings applied, and the better performance.

Well my maximus II formula just turned up, along with my 2 kits of D9 GKX equipped Cellshock. Hopefully this board and ram works properly.

for 24/7 setting i would to know
How much are vFSB, vNB and vPLL that recommended to use ?
(in case of the real voltage)

    bios v.1306

    vCore : 1.26250
    vPLL : 1.54 (bios) / 1.59 (real)
    vFSB : 1.28 (bios) / 1.30 (real)
    vDimm : 2.04 (bios) / 2.15 (real)
    vNB : 1.30 (bios) / 1.35 (real)
vSB : 1.20 (bios) / (i dont know where to probe the voltage)

all voltage setting are lowest for Prime95 can run smoothy

    Ambient 32-33'C
    --------------------------------------------------------------

    i try 550x7.5

    Setting #1
    - vCore : 1.32500 without change any setting
    - It fine for 8hrs Prime95

    Setting #2
    - vCore : 1.29750
    - vPLL : 1.56 (bios) / 1.61 (real)
    - vFSB : 1.30 (bios) / 1.32 (real)
    - vNB : 1.34 (bios) / 1.39 (real)
    - It fine for 8hrs Prime95

i wonder that setting #2 the voltage is too much for 24/7

    any suggestion?

    thank you

I seem to have an issue using any bios version beyond 1103

Boot times just take an age using anything more recent.

I am using two 74 g.b wd raptors in raid, which I suspect is causing the problem as they also thrash like hell after bios update.

    Hey guys, again ; )
I think I'm getting addicted to tweaking/oc'ing. I've been looking around for some advice on tweaking the performance level, but I'm a little confused.

-Should I leave my settings as it is? Or would it make a difference to lower PL and disable All Pull-ins? I want to stay at 3.6ghz for now, just trying to optimized at this point.

A friend of mine has this board, and he is having trouble with getting it to work with his RAM.

He has updated to the latest BIOS and increased the vDIMM and NB volts all with one stick installed. He then added a second stick and started the PC. Only a black screen. No matter what slot the RAM is installed in. Again with one stick he checks the BIOS settings and finds that the voltage settings are back to default.

Anything above one stick is a no go, but one stick can get him into Windows fine. Can some one help, as I don't have this motherboard?

Use one of kets modded BIOS files, more then likely this will solve his issues if it is indeed memory related.

i quite pleased with it however when i shut down windows it shuts down black screen etc but the computer doesn't turn itself off, it just idles, has anyone else got this problem 1306 bios winxp32 sp3.

    2nd question

does anyone have the default voltages for a e8400, auto voltages are fine but i want to nudge upward from stock when overclocking

    cheers

The minimum voltage will be at the top right of the screen when you have it clicked on Vcore Voltage there in your AI OC. It varies depending on the VID.

I had same problem with dlx+winxp32 sp3... I think it appeared after installation of Marvell Yukon Ethernet Controller so try to uninstall it ... or reinstall win

thanks chuck i didn't know to trust those voltages or not, you mean the voltages in the bios on the right hand side right!?

Sounds like either memory dying, memory incompatibility or something now needing more voltage to boot up. Try going back to stock settings (333 x 9 / DDR 800/ stock voltages etc - manualy set these in bios) and see if the problem persists. If it does, try using only one stick of ram, if the problem persists, try the other stick on its own. Let us know what happens.

I feel bad for recommending the asus already.
No clearance issues here with an 8800GT. The 7900GS is a very old card, he should upgrade already, if he has a P5Q-D he should get a card to match.

    thank you
try dropping the ones I bolded, everyone's definition of 'safe 24/7' voltage is different too, I may be being conservative compared to what others run.

Try increasing the ram speed above 800, that should give you a nice boost, also yeah lowering the PL give3s a nice increase too. I found that enabling the pullins actualy gave me worse performance, but you may be different. Test the options and see what's best and what the board can do.

No matter what slot the RAM is installed in. Again with one stick he checks the BIOS settings and finds that the voltage settings are back to default.

Anything above one stick is a no go, but one stick can get him into Windows fine. Can some one help, as I don't have this motherboard?
Perhaps a ram incompatibility issue, what ram is he running? Also, possibly one ram stick is going bad. Test the sticks, and if they both test fine on their own (one stick at a time) using memtest, I'd say it's an incompatibility issue.

I guess with that card he could just use it in the 8x slot?

After a few more hours of poking aorund my DFI board I'm coming up empty handed... If I get this board and an E0 Quad Q9650 would I have a decent shot at 4GHZ under water (including the mosfets?)

My DFI board or my C1 stepping CPU can't seem to do more than 400 FSB. Although at 400 FSB I'm prime and 50 iteration burn test stable #3200mhz on my Q9450 with only GTL tweaks. I'm going to try flashing the bios again...
If I fail, I will probably be picking up this board and selling what I have.

But I need to know if this board will clock well with the 8GB of ram in my Sig.

Great reviews huh? But it might be PEBCAK, since the same memory with only 2 sticks has 100% 5 star reviews?

Is it that none of the MB's out can achieve 500 FSB with 8GB of ram in them?

Yep I had that issue with 1306, and to a lesser extent 1104 on my P5Q Pro. My solution? I upgraded my old 1004 mBIOS to include recent tweaks\changes and went with that, all is good again I noticed the reason for the system not fully shutting down was because of LLC, disable it and viola problem goes away..

Well, I can't answer this as I have never run 8GB, but you *should* be able to achieve a good overclock but you will need to be very careful with timings, and it will need decent vNB, and it has to be fully compatible with the P45 chipset, I'm not sure if that particular ram is or not, but it should be possible. Look to some of the guys running 4GB and base your template for 8GB off theirs.

You should also be able to do better than 3.2GHz on a P5Q-D, 500 FSB has been done with a quad, I think Leeghoofd has done it and others too.

Have you set any voltages at or around that level? perhaps vPLL and vFSB? Also OCCT is not the tool you want to be using to measure voltages. I'm quite sure the bios/board doesnt have the capability to detect vPLL, vFSB, vNB or vdimm, so who knows what those voltages are.
