My goal will be as close to 4ghz possible cooled by tuniq tower 120 with the cpu I pick.
I know the e5200 is quite new and people and reviews say mixed thing about its OC capabilities. it seems its capable of 4ghz but at higher voltages than air would like.
The e7200, I have learned from this thread, is highly overclockable the older cpu's or the ones that contain A in the stepping code and are...SLAVN or whatever(are all of them that?) the A is the biggest thing I remember reading...those yeild amazing oc's around decent voltages...like 3.8-4ghz @ 1.4v or lower right???
The B ones are struggling at 3.4ghz and higher is what Im reading from this thread.
Well, it just so happens in my computer store I work at we have one E7200 in stock and its a A batch or week 0813....Do you guys think that one will be awesome and worth it over a random e5200?

I will be attempting this on the biostar I45 board...do you think thats good to oc these chips with?
    Thanks
If you want 4ghz for sure then get a used e8400 C0 that is proven OR get a newer e8400 e0 that goes for $139-149 on sale. The vcore for the most part seems high on both the e7200 and e5200's.

E7200 batch Q813A720 here. 3.4Ghz (400 x 8.5) on air (Scythe Infinity) failed orthos after 9 hours, vCore = 1.275, board is an Asus P5Q Pro. Now trying with 1.2875 vCore, though I have a hunch most of you guys are easier to declare something 'stable'?

I find temps are quite high on this chip, generally around 60 degrees, maximum peaks at 67!

Fry's online but not on sale now.
Couple of oem (cpu only) e8400's C0's on ebay now for $149 plus shipping.
But I'd probably wait for an e0 at $150 on sale sooner or later though.

zlojack has a 4.2ghz e8400 (c0) 1.36v for sale for $160 shipped in the for sale section.

I put my Q808A696/1.0875VID on a Biostar TPower I45 and I'm good to go at 3.808 in OCCT blend, Orthos small FFT, Burntest, etc. with 1.264v under load.

Got what I guess is a final overclock on my chip since 4.0ghz takes a hair over 1.3vcore Not that I have a problem with giving it more voltage, it just doesnt feel like .1 vcore for 200mhz is worth it.

Because my "awesome" P5B-E has a such a "low" Vdroop, and because Asus engineers were too "brilliant" not to allow manual Vcore adjustments with Penryns, it is always at AUTO setting and running at 1.45V in BIOS (1.1 VID + 0.35V) and I can get to 3.85GHz IntelBurnTest stable for 1 hour, and at that screaming load, it runs at only 1.336V (which is an amazing 0.164V Vdroop). Bastard runs at close to 85C in IBT

Result is that 3.85GHz (406x9.5) at 1.336V full load. 1.392V idle. (Edit: Actually it is 1.328V in IBT. The mother of all VDroops :-O)

OMG guys! I did the VDroop pencil mod and now 1.375V (in BIOS and 1.376V in CPU-Z under full load = 0V VDroop ) and 3.97GHz (418x9.5) Ran 10 passes of IBT and passed. 4.006GHz wasn't stable :*(

Hi guys, first post on the forum (and a great one it is too!)

I hate to bump a thread that hasn't been touched in so long but my problem is incredibly relevant to what has already been discussed on here (and it is named "official" after all!).

I noticed someone earlier in the thread mentioned overclocking the E7200 processor with the Gigabyte GA-73PVM-S2H motherboard. This is the same motherboard I have but I am having some real problems overclocking the processor past 3.00GHz.

I'll admit, I'm a total newbie when it comes to overclocking but I've been reading various threads and articles on how to do it. Still not 100% clued up though.

To the point anyway - I've managed to overclock to 3.00GHz at 1.200V stable, testing with Prime95 (blend) and memtest. FSB is 316 and multiplier is 9.5. If I try and bring it over this I immediately have problems - I ramped the FSB upto 333 and even a voltage of 1.300 won't make it stable (Prime95 crashes within a couple of minutes).

I'm reluctant to bring it up any further, as I've heard people have overclocked this processor to 3.2GHz easily whilst still using stock voltages. Why am I having such difficulty?

I'm currently using 2 x 2GB G-Skill PC6400 (800MHz, 1.8V). I know it has been mentioned elsewhere one of the big let-downs with this motherboard is it won't let you alter RAM voltage in BIOS (only clock speed). Is this where my problem lies?

If any more information is needed about my system just say so!

    Many thanks!

    ***EDIT***

Strangely enough, I applied the BSEL mod today when installing a new cooler, and now it is running fine at 333FSB with a multiplier of 9.5 to give 3.16GHz stable at the default voltage! How weird is that!? I'll try overclocking the now-modded chip and see where it gets me.
