its supposed to lock the PCI-E bus @ 100mhz. if it doesnt the PCI-E bus will overclock along with the FSB. most vid cards do not like the PCI-E bus overclocked and the card will produce artifacts, not run, or maybe even fry.

for example:
400fsb with a locked will produce 100mhz PCI-E. however if thats as far as the PCI-E lock will go then @ 500fsb you will be running a 125mhz PCI-E bus. assuming that will even run, stability will fall off quickly @ 505, 510, 515fsb, etc.

my testing along with many other comments in this thread leads me to believe the PCI-E lock is not working past 500fsb. on some previous bios' that might even be as low as 466fsb or 400fsb.

in other words.... no PCI-E lock = no serious overclocking, let alone with any real stability.
