NVIDIA to upgarade GTX 260 in mid-September

The original GTX 260 have 8 TPCs (Texture Processing Cluster) totally, but the new GTX 260 have 9 TPCs. That means the numbers of shader processor have been increased from 192 to 216. In G200 chip, one TPC contains 24 shader processors.
This one is for suppress HD 4870...

they cant make it expensive even if it will be fast enough to beat 4870, if it ends up expensive then 2x 4850 will be a better option so they cant really ask much for it.

    G80 8800"GTS" 112SP "OC" edition, anyone?

This will make sure its power and heat exceed the 2900XT.

these use less power than the 4870, which i'm (100%) sure uses alot less power than the 2900xt.
As Los Alamos director J. Robert Oppenheimer watched the demonstration, he later said that a line from the Hindu scripture the Bhagavad Gita came to mind:
"I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds."
Test director Kenneth Bainbridge in turn said to Oppenheimer, "Now we are all sons of b**ches." wiki

    Really?

At load it uses just a little more. With an extra TPC though, use the 260 number + 280 number * 0.5. It's essentially a GTX270.

And yes, it exceeds the 2900XT.

Idle power on the 260 is great, but you can underclock the 4850/4870 to 300/150 Core and lower RAM clocks too, which should make it on par. They didn't do it because you get a black flicker due to GDDR5 RAM autotraining again.

The 4870 uses 40w less at 100/200 compared to stock 2D 500/900, according to my watt meter.

So that's 140w idle for my system and max 360w in Furmark @ 825/1025

How do you figure that? Theres a lot more to the core than just the TPCs, and threres a lot more to a video card than just the core. In the overall scheme, one single TPC is not going to account for a big increase in power draw (a few watts perhaps) as all the other components will remain identical to the original GTX260. To get to the halfway point between the GTX260 and GTX280 you'll need to increase the core and memory clocks as well.

Maybe the real problem lies in the user not the card.

Here we go again with cards to further confuse the consumer...I hope they call it something different enough to differentiate it from the regular GTX 260.

This is will takes sales away from the 280.

What on earth was Nvidia thinking? We needed GTX 260 55nm @ 700 Core and GTX 280 55nm @ 800 core to slap around ATI like nobody's business.

P.S. I like to upgarade too
