It's raining 5GHz all over the place!

My cpu is the really funny, it runs 4.3GHz at just 1.2V which becomes 1.208V under load due to LLC and runs everything i throw at it, 1 hour Orthos small ftt's, blend, OCCT, 3d mark 06, aquamark03, superpi 32M, memtest in windows, memtest 86, all no problem.

But sometimes in explorer or just after booting into windows it happens to bsod.
Hell, it even bluescreened at windows installation!

I'm really puzzled about this so i set all voltages to auto and raised Vcore only 1 small step in bios and now all seems stable.

    No more bsod so far.

@ Garrett, me scared? You must be kiddin mate, i'm only trying to find a stable 24/7 setting before i will move on to pumping some real Vcore.

I could boot into windows 4.9GHz with just 1.48V and run 1M, then i tried with 1.52V and worked my way up with setFSB but superpi already failed at 4930MHz.
Perhaps my cpu isn't as good as yours.

Doesn't mean i'm giving up off course.
1M has got to be done at 5GHz.

Get rid of loadline calibration, that is likely why you were unstable at idle.

Finally, let's take one last real-world look at the consequences of removing Vdroop. ASUS' implementation of this feature, labeled as Load Line Calibration and included with their latest line of motherboards, is particularly worthy of our attention for a number of reasons. The first is that setting lower voltages with this option enabled actually results in a condition in which the CPU voltage under load is higher than the idle voltage. Imagine our confusion as we desperately struggle to understand why our system is Prime95 stable for days yet continues to crash under absolutely no load. What's more, in spite of the absence of droop and for reasons unknown, enabling this feature artificially raises our CPU's minimum stable core voltage at 4.0GHz from 1.28V to about 1.33V. As a result, our system uses more power under load than is otherwise necessary. Our efforts to reduce our processor's supply voltage backfired - instead of lowering the system's total power consumption we managed to affect a 20W increase.

Thanks for pointing out, already thought of that myself as i had seen that article at Anandtech a few weeks ago.

That's why i went with a tad more Vcore.

So what then would be a acceptable 24/7 setup, if you wanted the chip to last 8 months to a year.

    Vcore ?
    FSBT ?
    PLL ?
    Temps ?

I would like to think I have a decent wc setup so I was somewhat shocked at the high temps for this clock.
I would like to run 4500 for 24/7 but our house already has a furnace

Just went on HWBOT to keep track of the action. Here's the latest e8600 update:

one thing you should all take into consideration is of the top 10 e8600 overclocks on hwbot, 4 were done on a tpower i45 board that costs only $145.00 including the WR. 5 were on x48 Rampage extreme ($400 board) and 1 was on a GIGABYTE GA-EP45-DQ6 ($250.00)

If you are not on HWBOT already you should register and post your e8600 clocks. It's fun and all you need is a cpuz validation account. Takes 5 minutes and your scores last forever.

I wouldn't take them over 1.400 Volts loaded, or a distance to Tjmax of less than 20

I would'nt call anything less than 4 hrs prime95 or Orthos stable. Still yet to see this over 4.5Ghz in the thread. SuperPi runs mean Sweet F... All. Whats the point of xtremesystems if its unstable...
    i7 860 & Noctua NH-U12P with 2 x 120mm fans // Gigabyte P55A-UD6// 2 x 2Gb G.Skill PC3-16000 Ripjaws // 3 x WD 1002FAEX // Powercolor HD 5870 // XFi Fatal1ty // Thermaltake 750W Q-fan psu all fitting nicely into my old Cooler Master stacker original case..

How's the vdroop on that board? Is there a pencil mod for it?
