Well done, took me about 5 hours and it was hard work!

Managed to extract most of the info I needed, think the template is a good idea and not seen that before in a thread.

The P5Q-Deluxe is a damn fine board, lots of little improvements I notice over previous chipsets I've used, now all I need is one of them new E0 stepping chips and I'm in business!

    Enjoy

Speaking of the new E0 chips, I notice that the Q9650 has it. Will the Q9450/Q9550 have E0 stepping as well, and about how long tell it hits the shelves? I really want a 45nm chip to go with this board but would rather wait for the Q9650 to drop down to about $300

Can someone give me a walk through to setting up RAID on this board?

I went into the RAID BIOS, set up the slices. Rebooted, went into regular BIOS and set the SATA mode to RAID. Rebooted and inserted the floppy containing the RAID drivers. Went to install Windows XP, pressed F6, and all I see there for ICH10R is "ICH10R SATA AHCI" or something like that... nothing else is there for ICH10R. I choose that one and setup loads it. I continue with the Windows setup and when it asks me if I want to install Windows/repair, I press enter to install Windows. I then get a message saying there are no harddrives connected. Both of my RAID drives are recognized by BIOS/RAID BIOS, so I'm at a loss here. I've got the 1201 BIOS (up from stock 0605) and that didn't help.

    Anyone got any pointers?

When flashing between 1103 and 1201, has anyone experienced the settings you left set in the previous version still being there after the flash and reboot?

Before I flash, I set default cpu speed, set ram to DDR800, set vcore to 1.3625, PLL 1.52v, vFSB 1.12v, vNB 1.20v, vdimm 1.98v, set stock multiplier and ram timings, and set PL = 10, then flash to the new bios. I believe it is more guaranteed to be stable than leaving everything on auto. Before today upon entering into the bios after a flash for the first time, everything has been back to 'AUTO' as you would expect. However when going from 1201 to 1103, then from 1103 back to 1201 again, all those settings remained set in the bios. Nothing was changed from the way I had left it set manually prior to the flash.

    Has anyone experienced this?

So I just installed my board it came shipped with 0803 BIOS and I was curious about it , so I grabbed my $7 Multi meter and check it out. I set @ BIOS : 1.96v , in windows idle I get 2.04 ( steady), when I run Blend it fluctates all the time between 2.04- 2.05v. After this I installed the 1201 BIOS, unlike Cryptik this BIOS behaved the same : when I set 1.96v it indicates still 2.04 @ windows Ilde and fluctates between 2.04- 2.05 during Prime blend. We just have 2 peeps measured the DIMM @ BIOS 1201 would be nice if some1else could meassure it aswell, so we can be abit more "sure" about it

    *edit I also tried it @ 2.00v BIOS set windows Ilde: 2.07 -2.08 prime blend: 2.08- 2.09
I don't think you need a MM, because I'm just not stable at same NB and DRAM voltages as with 1103. Will try 1.30V NB and 1.98V DRAM instead of 1.26/1.90V.

Before I flash anything I just set all to default and just leave the ram voltage at it's required level... then I flash, and once bios pops up again I reset all again to default but the ram voltage...

chispy has done some voltage readings too... NB value is a tad lower and his rams undervolt big time...I'm getting lost in the dark now lol... on my board nothing has changed (since 0901), on yours it's different and on chispy's it's again different

Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

The discrepancies between our voltage measurements certainly are remarkably large. It is strange that the same boards have such large differences between them.

I have a question - can someone please verify what vNB it takes to be orthos Large FFT stable using 445 FSB (I'm at 445 x 9), DDR 1112 MHz 5-5-5-15, 266 strap, PL 8? I'd really appreciate it.

I'm quite sure it takes 0.06v more vNB to be stable at that setting with the 1201 bios than with the 0803 bios.

I always flash with afudos and extra switches to make sure everything is updated...

    afuXXX /i<ROM filename> [/o<save ROM filename>] [/n] [/p[b][n][c]]

    /n - don't check ROM ID
    /pbnc -
    b - Program Boot Block
    n - Program NVRAM
    c - Destroy System CMOS

I usually use full /pbnc but just /pc should do the trick clearing cmos

using "b" is bit risky. If update fails your boot block may get messed.

Is there a point where we can measure Vcore on the top of the mobo? The guys at awardfabrik did measure just vdimm, vfsb, vnb and vpll.
Also i read the whole 100+ pages but most people are on Wolfdales. Which is the best bios for 45nm Quads? I'm on the 0803(the one that came with the board).

This is why i wanted to find out where to read VCORE with a multimeter. I'm not sure i can trust the readings.

It's not a bios problem, you only must set RAID in BIOS.
It's logic that XP doesn't see your raid if you don't load the RAID driver...
Scroll through the drivers that you see (move down and up in the windows with the drivers list).
Load also the ICH10R RAID driver, if you have download the Intel driver it MUST be in the list...

@ NaMcO: Well BenchZowner sent me this:
    http://i38.tinypic.com/zv7ll0.jpg

But i tryed measuring vcore on the capacitor near the EPU chip and it looks like its ground. The other terminal has 5.13V.
If you want to measure the vcore on the backside:
    http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...&postcount=251
But these are from the P5Q3 model.

this is the way i have done it ( probably a lazy way )

    - put a bios 803 in the thumb drive formatted as fat32
    - boot the system and enter BIOS, restore to default settings
    - power down
    - Put the thumbdrive with the bios and power up again
    - press alt f2 during power up
    - EZ flash 2 will see your bios in your thumb drive
    - just update your BIOS and the system will do the trick

    Why did I re-flashed it to 803?
    1. System stability test using everest ultimate will fail after 1 minute.
    2. OCCT RAM test or CPU or Mix test will fail just after a minute and 8 secs or so
    3. Prime95 will fail fail at thred number 4 after merely 15 secs and thread 3 will fail by almost a minute after excuting it

    My conclusion :
BIOS 1201 is not stable with my system. BIOS 803 is the way to go for me.

Lee my friend, all the tests were run at 333fsb in a E8400.
I can see all the boards fluctuate on the voltage department after my findings

Same thing here, upgrading 1103 to 1201 kept all settings.

Quick voltage testing with my board reveals:

    With a DMM, bios 1201.

There not tracers just standard ballistix but nevertheless 2.20 is required mate. Bios 1201 i set 2.20 in bios giving me 2.21-22. Previous bios' i was setting 2.16 not sure what actual it was giving me. Got a fan on them though because they do get hot, ive got a thermometer inside the heat spreader on them going to an lcd readout and they idle around 34c and fully load upto around 45c.

Running them at the setup in my sig gives real good performance though, check out the everest benchmark i posted earlier in this thread

I bought a new PC for my GF's family and I can't for the life of me get this damn PC stable even at stock speed...

    The system consists of:

    P5Q Deluxe
    Q6600
    G.Skill 4GB PC2-8000
    HD4870
    etc

I have been trying everything, but I mean everything: Running everything at stock, setting manually the right specs for the memory, upgrading BIOS 605 to 803, and the list goes on and on...

I have selected lower memory specs, auto timings, manual timings, auto CPU voltage, manual CPU voltage up to 1,4V for stock speed, upping the memory voltage up to 2,10V, changing the PLL voltage, changing the PCI Express speed from 100 to 110, disabling any spread spectrum, enabling loadline calibration, loosing the board's timing, leaving everything at auto...

EVERY THING GIVES ME ERRORS WITH PRIME95 WITHIN THE FIRST MINUTE

I'm really desperate; did I receive the worst CPU Intel has ever made in its whole history or is it my board that is a total POS?

I have finished a similar build with a P5K Premium a few months ago and I have had none of these issues...

I seek some help or I will RMA the board and CPU!

EDIT: I gotta add that 60% of the time, when I change a setting in the BIOS, the board will not even boot and gives me a Overclocking failed on the 2nd attemp even though everything is set at auto...

My CPU has a VID of 1,325V and is running at 1,32V at stock speed...
The situation is almost worse than it was... The system now freezes while POSTing or when I'm trying to change settings or voltages in BIOS... It does the same thing when I put my Ballistix D9's in this system and it also does the same thing when I use only 1 stick, in the yellow or black slots...

I'm getting really pissed, in the last hour, I have been able to reach Windows once, but it frozen a few second..

I have tried everything, raising the vNB to 1,46V, the memory to 2,1V, selecting every straps, clearing CMOS, etc etc... I have replaced the CPU, rechecked every connectors etc etc

It's the first time in 3 years that I get so many problems with a machine.

I'm about to RMA the board, the CPU and maybe the Power Supply (Can it be it?)

I doubt the memory is the problem since I tried with other sticks...

haev you got an older vidcard laying aorund, did you try unhooking unnecessary devices like floppy drives, DVD writers and co, so just vidcard and HD connected to the PSU ? either the PSU might be it or you got a dud mobo mate...
Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

Remark : They call me Pro Asus Saaya yupp, I agree

I tried with my 8800GT, same thing, the PC froze while POSTing... Not a big deal, time to RMA the board and maybe the CPU and Power Supply...
