Talking Ram @ 1300 and over its done

I just got my RMA Ballistics 8500 , I asked in the phone to the tech at crucial to send me the old double sided Kit , he said yes they are a few available I will try to send you one of the old Kits double sided. Guess what i just recived the memory back and im playing to see where My Asus P5Q-Deluxe will take this marvelous Ram Kit. A quick test reveiled that Bios 1201 its oriented towards memory overclockability. I lost a few Mgz in FSB in trade for high OC in the memory department on Bios 1201 , previous bioses tested wont let me oc ram stable past 1200 neither.

    Quick Test

    vram 2.34v
    cpu E8400 1.40v
manual settings to 5-5-5-15 everything else at auto.

    DDR2 @ 1300 with only 2.34v

No, the fans stay on, and the P5Q-D is not in a case yet, no short.
Just no video or keyboard lights with the Dominators.

You say fans come on but no video, if the fans startup and then stop after a few secs it can be a short between motherboard and case - I had that with the backplate cooler that came with the thermalright 14 - had to junk it.

    Good luck

I hope I'm wrong Aamsel but it might be that a) the board is DOA or b) it just doesn't know what to do with ya CPU... is there anyway you can lend a cpu to see if it posts then... have you tried with one dimm ? did you pop the battery ? tried with a PCI vidcard ?

Wayne mate the bandwith thing is to me the only thing that needs to be improved (and so do feel many other users) to be a true P35 beater... setup is still fairly easy but the P35 was a tad faster in the ram department... and really the multiquote thing is pretty handy when you reply to more than one post... and if you have a change of heart or want to add something just edit ya post...don't post a new one then 2 minutes later like some tend to do...that's why the thread moves too fast sometimes...

I wished the mods would allow me to edit the OP first posts so I can add some common info there (like Jvidia's volt readings, current biosses, the templates, some stuff that works for most etc...)

Keep up the good work lads... Nehalem maybe next for me...

Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

It it working fine with 2GB of GSkill now, but still nothing with the 4GB of Dominators. I tried every BIOS from 0803 until 1201, no difference, drained CMOS every time.

Also, even if it is working with 1GB of GSkill and I add either Dominator module, same thing, no video or keyboard.
    Any reason for this?

Also, the VID on the Q9650 is 1.1v.
    Is that good?
    Just started testing it.

At least your systems working. That ram is on the SQV list and does work stock with no tweaking/settings required - I've seen other posters using it too. Strange that it works in another board though. Can you RMA the set and try another set of them or another brand of 8500 2x2GB - that way you can check your board.

some1 mentioned, he did read it with a DIMM that 1201, is near to what u set @ BIOS real, according to him vDIMM doesnt overvolt with 0.08 instead it overvolts with 0.01 and 0.02 during load. But Any1 else have yet to confirm it aswell.

Some memory observations (P5Q-premium, but probably the same for P5Q-deluxe):
FYI, Corsair CM2X1024-9136C5D really dislikes this motherboard.
    Without huge tweakings:
Max stable (E8500) 9,5x429, memory at 1143 MHz.
Unstable: Lots, but e.g. 6x450, memory at 900 Mhz!

    Good part:
    Initial testings with G.Skill 2x2Gb PC2-9600 1200Mhz:
Stable without tweaking at 1226 Mhz.

Seems weird, but as someone else posted earlier in this thread, ASUS P5Q motherboards has compatibility issues with Corsair memory.

I could RMA it, but it is good, tested, working RAM that worked on another P5Q-D as well.

Ahh sorry, and I just read back and saw you'd posted that earlier. Pity about your motherboard then.

Just got my P5Q-Deluxe back from RMA... set it up caseless on my wood kitchen table.

    First boot - no POST
    Second boot - no POST
    Cleared CMOS
    Third boot - no POST
I pressed and held the reset button on the board until it shut off and then it turned back on itself. It POSTed that time. Give that a go... my first P5Q-Deluxe was DOA, but I didn't try that method.

Has anyone gotten RAID to work on this board? I used the driver CD to make a floppy with RAID drivers on it and it only has AHCI drivers, not RAID and thus, I can't get any further installing Windows.

So your using 2.34v bios vdimm, what FSB/vNB/strap?

    So you're at 420FSB, 3:5, what vdimm/vNB?

    Thanks

**EDIT - Yes I measured the vDIMM with a DMM - 1201 BIOS - it overvolts 0.01v from bios set at idle, then this increases to 0.02v overvolt under load. So, 1.96v (bios) gives 1.97v (idle) and 1.98v (load).

Aight guys I'm getting extremely mad here.

I bought a new PC for my GF's family and I can't for the life of me get this damn PC stable even at stock speed...

    The system consists of:

    P5Q Deluxe
    Q6600
    G.Skill 4GB PC2-8000
    HD4870
    etc

I have been trying everything, but I mean everything: Running everything at stock, setting manually the right specs for the memory, upgrading BIOS 605 to 803, and the list goes on and on...

I have selected lower memory specs, auto timings, manual timings, auto CPU voltage, manual CPU voltage up to 1,4V for stock speed, upping the memory voltage up to 2,10V, changing the PLL voltage, changing the PCI Express speed from 100 to 110, disabling any spread spectrum, enabling loadline calibration, loosing the board's timing, leaving everything at auto...

EVERY THING GIVES ME ERRORS WITH PRIME95 WITHIN THE FIRST MINUTE

I'm really desperate; did I receive the worst CPU Intel has ever made in its whole history or is it my board that is a total POS?

I have finished a similar build with a P5K Premium a few months ago and I have had none of these issues...

I seek some help or I will RMA the board and CPU!

EDIT: I gotta add that 60% of the time, when I change a setting in the BIOS, the board will not even boot and gives me a Overclocking failed on the 2nd attemp even though everything is set at auto...

My CPU has a VID of 1,325V and is running at 1,32V at stock speed...

Ok, try setting AI Transaction Booster to 'Manual', then below that set level 10.

    Then set 1.30v vNB

    See how that goes.

Okay, I tried playing Empires again today and didn't hear any crackling. Haven't tried teamspeak. This is definitely a weird intermittent thing, which is why I hadn't returned the board yet, unless this can also be a hardware-induced phenomenon? Looks like tomorrow is zero-hour with respect to being able to avoid having to do a warranty request with Asus.

So, think it's probably drivers? Or more likely hardware? I'll tear it apart and exchange the board if it's hardware, but I have to admit I'm worried the next board might be worse >.<

I haven't had sound problems in other games so far, so I do kind of wonder if maybe HL2 is doing something fishy. I sort of suspect it may be related to having voice chats going on as they seem to really aggrivate the problem. So, it could be that it's having trouble dealing with sounds of multi sample rates (which I think it resamples all to 48KHz per the AC97 spec), but that could still be hardware. It's kind of weird that restarting tends to fix the problem.

I have had this issue with teamspeak before even with a Xifi card, noise got verry erratic and crackled sometimes, seemed it had loads of interference... think it's more software related then hardware mate, I didn't have this on 32bit OS but on 64 it came back... now with the latest version I don't have those issues (though I updated my creative drivers too)

    1.98v /1.99v / 2.00v

Before I was setting the voltage 0.08v lower to offset the voltage increase, but I have not multimeter and could really really use one more person confirming this is true and I can change my voltage to reflect the change. Thanks!

Edit: Sorry, I was just reading through the last few pages and saw that a couple others have already asked the same question. I did not see them, but this new finding does explain some weird things I have been seeing with my RAM.

I gained extra 20MHz with my crappy RAM while with 1103 BIOS it just stopped dead at 800MHz (max RAM freq. by specs). It's not much but it seems to help.

Okay, sounds like this may be software, then. I remember just now I had almost exactly this same problem with a sound card I used to use on my old computer (Diamond XS71), both the TS problem as well as the crackling of doom in HL2. Everything else is working awesomely, though. The computer is wicked fast overall.
